Lime disease pill?

Yesterday walked along a park maintained path at the beach that wound up disappearing on the second half leaving us stranded in close to knee high grass on the backside of a dune ...

... considering the warm winter, was concerned about ticks ... did not see any on my legs or shoes ... although I was wearing brown hiking boots and blue jeans ... but have not seen any nestled on me ...

.. but the woman I was with said that there is now a pill you can take, if you find the classic ring on your body, that negates the effects of lime disease within 24 hours ... is this true?

Has anyone here heard about this pill and know anything about it? Or was she spreading garbage ... ?

I was under the impression that once you see the ring..you've got lime disease...could be mistaken though

yep correct TDF the bulls eye means you've got it...

haven't heard anything on a pill...sounds great tho

told the wife little while ago that she'll be doing daily (backside)
inspections each evening as i already had a tiny tick crawling up my chest
and its only this BIG . . . impossible to see using a rear view mirror

i think i'll be dusting with 7 this year but first i have to by a safety mask

problem is....Doctors are reluctant to give you antibiotics unless warranted
and frown on the preventative action saying your just going to make a "bug" stronger

i know my Doctor won't and has a sign saying so

I will do some research on this, unless she had no clue as to what she was talking about ... while she was talking about this magic pill - I thought about asking her if it was like the "morning after" pill, but held my tongue ... I guess it calls for being more careful moving forward ...although not keen on adding chemicals on my clothing/body/gear to keep them away ... but may become a necessity

what i use exclusively and liberally is CUTTER Skinsations
7% deet

i spray my shirt before i put it on
and i spray my socks after pulling them
up over my blue jeans while clearing land
which is when you really get into them
disturbing everything...usually using a weed whacker

oh and thirdly when i come in...even if i was out for only an hour
i strip ,shower and change clothes (old (used) clothes get washed)
otherwise, you'll be sitting there having a sandwich
and a tick comes walking out from underneath your shirt sleeve

Some Docs won't give you an antibiotic unless you have the rash or
test positive. If you have the rash you need to be treated with the
antibiotics, usually doxcycline, right away.
Problem is, a rash doesn't always appear but you can get tested. $$$

First off, the only ticks you have to be worried about regarding lyme disease are deer ticks.

I think the woman was confusing a couple situations. There are two ways that a doctor can treat you for Lyme and it depends on when you were bit and for how long the tick was chowing down.

A doctor could give you a single 200mg prophylactic dose of doxycyclene if you've removed a deer tick off yourself within the last 72-hrs or so. Some doctors will do this, others won't. I had a deer tick on my inner thigh and my doctor gave me the one time dose. Doxycyclene usually makes you feel like crap. I'm guessing this is what she was referring to.

The other option is waiting for the tell-tale bulls eye rash (which doesn't always show or isn't always visible) or other symptoms of Lyme and then it's a couple weeks of doxycyclene. Once you show the rash, you're stuck with this option.

No antibiotic is fun, but except for possible photosensitivity, stomach upset,
monilia, and staining of the teeth in children as possible side effects, it's a pretty safe antibiotic proven over the years. Better than the long term affects of Lymes.

I took a walk through one of my favorite pieces of deer woods this am which includes a small field. I must have pulled 2 dozen wood and deer ticks off my pants on the ride home!

I saved it, called doc today
I'll see him tom. afternoon, soonest I could get there

I thought they can test the thing so I'll know if it has Lyme. isn't that possible?

I thought the same thing for my daughter last summer when I pulled tick off of her, her doctor's office said they do not do anything with ticks, but I have heard others say they have had ticks tested. Might as well ask.

Slip put the tick in a jar with an ant in it. If the ant eats the tick it didn't have lime disease. If it doesn't eat the tick it may be to full to eat.

Hey guys just thought I could lend a little insight. I've been trying to get rid of lyme for about a year now countless treatments and specialists. Most of what's known about lyme treatment is theory because lyme bacteria is very difficult to isolate in a lab along with many other factors to many to list, but with that being said it is thought that giving a one time dose of doxycycline within 72 ours of infected tick bite will prevent disseminated lyme. However the appearance of a classic bullseye rash is the only indicator of infection, and 30% of all lyme cases reported no bullseye. So word of advice just be carefully guys try to avoid deer ticks and if you can't make sure you check yourself and if you do,find a deer tick on you save it and have sent out for testing.

My doc seemed to think they can't get correct results testing the ticks. He said they tested a bunch in Middleboro once and none had the disease according to the results. So maybe it's better to be careful.
I'd rather be safe than sorry so I am on doxycyclene or whatever it is.
It was a deer tick and could have been on me for 48 hours or more.
My daughter had the bullseye last year on her arm. Lyme disease sucks

Also on doxy for 30 days, about 15 days left. asked my Veterinarian about the $75 shot to prevent lyme in my dog to see if I could get one. (I smell scam)

On Doxy for the 4th day... it doesn't both me at all (so far)

But the four days before I started taking the meds were torturous. Uncontollable chills, high fever, relentless, horrible headache and a target on my shoulder the size of a softball. Best thing I ever did was get on those pills.

I believe I read an article about 2 weeks ago that said scientists have discovered that something related to the Lyme disease dies (not sure what it is) inside you and breaks off and ends up lodged in your joints. That is what causes many people pain. Drs. never know about this and and I believe it caused a lot contriversy b/t Drs. and the patients. Drs. considered it a big break through.

Its the most common treatment for Lyme, it bothers many people's stomachs, but I have an iron stomach.

I have been trying to be careful with the sun though.

My first symptom was my casting was off then it went downhill from there.
