Duplicator patterns

What is the best way to make a pattern to use on a duplicator? Mostly I want to know what I should use for material for the pattern and any other tips would be helpful. Thanks

All depends on what you have for a duplicator

I have one of those long adjustable scribing tools, I don't know the correct term for it
and I use this to trace the body shape on a piece of either 1/4" plywood or plexiglass. Line it up and go.

I've been using some 2x4 cut down to around 1x2. I trace the pattern out, cut it on the bandsaw, smooth it on the beltsander and with the dremel and then I coat it with some epoxy. Working pretty well.
