PUNK

Since we got into the punk debate in the other thread, I figured I'd start a new thread here.

First one's for RIJIMMY.

Here's a local band I grew up listening to.

Another local band. Used to be the F.U.'s, then became the Straw Dogs.

Can I post the Ramones here......or are they considered pre-post-punk-old wave-alternative-modern?

not my fav music but I did have a few I liked. Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables was a good album but I can't listen to it for long. Small doses.

sorry for the title. Good tune though.

After this one I'm good for another 6 months with punk.

One more than I'm done. if you look close you can see Bigfish in the front row shooting a moon at Jello Biafra on vocals. What a train wreck

ok there mr. web quoter wikipedia guy........

Since all of the members were teenagers (some of whom were still learning to play their instruments when they passed their auditions), the band's music was frequently raw and amateurish, but it neatly combined American heavy metal with the newly emerging sound of punk rock.

Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco circa 1975 was the starting point for the band. Lyricist Kari Krome, singer/guitarist Joan Jett, drummer Sandy West and bass player Micki Steele played their first gigs as a part of the burgeoning and tight knit L.A. punk community. The Runaways' sound was a hybrid of punk and hard rock, though the guitar chords were more in line with metal bands than the sparse sound associated with punk rock.

so yeah, they get my punk vote....

I've always considered them Heavy Metal...almost pre-Hair Band metal...

and You Mr. Smuggy Pants started the Cut and Paste battle....not I

and if the Ramones were the 1st punk Band, and they released their 1st album after the Runaways formed...wouldn't that make the Runaways the 1st Punk Band? I mean they never saw each other perform since one was a west coast band and the other was an east coast band.

Just food for thought.....

I guess we should also qualify exactly what constitutes punk....we're arguing about personal perceptions

One of the best punk bands of all time IMO.

I saw these guys open for Rancid years ago at a small club. Really fun punk music.

I've been hearing this one a lot recently on Sirius. Not Marky Ramon singing, but that's probably a good thing.

Saw social distortion for the first time when I was 15. Still the most fun I ever had at any single show.

I like this thread. I never worried too much about labels. If it sounds punk to me it's punk
