Anyway, was very good I thought. Don't see the need for a repeat but if you have not gone it is a great way to spend a winter day. Blood pumping fishing porn videos....and got to meet a lot of good charter Capts and and got the skinny on a lot of specific rigging they do and a lot of questions answered.
One thing I noticed from fishing in different places with different people is fishermen from every location have "their" way of doing it and that's it. (even if it is for the same species) They realize that other people are successful doing it other ways and if you ask them about it...the response is something like...I have never tried that, I know it works but I do it this way. That's fine, they are telling you what works for them...but I think as a group, Fishermen tend to be a little narrow minded and take the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach instead of "there is always a better way" approach.
They had Jeff Corwin (the outdoors/animal guy) as a speaker and spoke about the gulf spill. He was walking a fine line saying what a terrible disaster of epic proportions and how much damage it would/could do but then said there wasn't much visible damage anymore and come on down and go fishing and eat the seafood. Frankly I thought the media cause more damage (by sensationalizing the event) to the region than the spill actually did.
The hands on sessions were very good. I liked being able to stand right next to the guy as he did something and ask questions. This was huge for me and the best part of the seminar.
I won a bunch of stuff at the raffle ( most people win a bunch of stuff).
Met and chatted with Ken Fraser from PEI and holds the all tackle record for bluefin. I really enjoyed his talk, it was old school and very entertaining. He had a stretch of 6 days where they had 9 fish from about 800 to 1496, 4 or 5 were over 1000.
One thing about Canada is...there is NO rec fishing. You can not go down and cast a line or fish from a boat for anything in the sea. It is comm or nothing. If you want to go Tuna fishing up there you can hire a comm boat he will take you out for about 1K/day and it is strictly C&R. The comm period lasted 36 hours last year and you can take 1 fish every 24 hours.
All in all it was a great show and I learned a bunch about the way the stellwagon guys like to fish.
Great summary. I enjoyed the day as this was my 1st MBG talk and probably won't go again, costs $75. It is nice they keep the # of attendees small (150 this year). Also nice is they cover all type of fishing (groundfish (cod/haddock/pollack), stripers and tuna)! I spent Sunday morning putting any spot burned fishing locations into my GPS! The Fortuna won't be able to hide from me anymore with their secret codes....
Last year I went to Quincy for Eric's and I thought this was better.

I am thinking of getting that custom chart he was talking about. Looked like a lot of thought went into it I just wish he had the names on all those locations and wish it could be displayed on the plotter with real time position. But I will be nice to have as a reference.

No...I had a white Block Island sweatshirt. I only won a couple things but they were nice and exceeded the cost of admission so that was nice. Some guys won a boatload of stuff.

I hit 3 tix, about broke even. I was the guy holding an HD camera filming the talks. I got some good ones.

Sandman,if you think the gulf spill was mostly media hype because there isn't much visible damage,then you are BP's type of customer.The agent used to "clean" the spill actually causes it to sink.This agent is illegal to use overseas but just fine for our waters according to our government.Somewhere there is a huge mass of ocean life really suffering.You just can't see it.
Wish I knew about the seminar as I may try for tuna with more than a handful of spinners this year.Hope I bump into you in togtown this spring so I can druel on your boat again.
Sea Dangles, I heard that too about the spill. That is weird that that was allowed to take place. You would think a big pump could have got a lot of the oil right off the top or something instead of pushing it down to the bottom. Think of all the microscopic sea life that was damaged and will most likely disrupt the food chain, at least for a little while.

Yeah...that is why I am getting a wireless tether. That thought has crossed my mind while walking around the boat on autopilot. If you fall over offshore...the boat keeps going. pfd or not...your done. He almost died.

That pretty much sums it all up right there. This is true whether talking tuna, bass, blue, flounder......once you find something that seems to work for you then you get very narrow minded. This is the reason over the years you end up with a basement full of stuff you win at raffles.
