View Full Version : BEST COD JIGS
InshoreAngler 11-18-2003, 10:56 PM I've heard of a bunch. Giant crippled herrings. "99n"s. Angerman. Norweigan, and many russian(?) ones I cannot spell.
What are your favorites, and in what sizes? And teasers, type, size and color?
fishsmith 11-19-2003, 12:30 PM you lose jigs so frequently you stop having favorites and are just thankful to having one. Weight on jigs is dependent on the conditions and the depth. I believe in going with the lightest jig that holds bottom. Yesterday I was in 240ft holding bottom with 16oz, this summer in the same spot I had to use 24oz+ because the drift was fast.
I like silver jigs, but my favorite are the cheap(no names with quality tackle) ones at the Mass Bass Show. My buddies biggest cod this year came off a homemade copper tube filled with lead, no paint just nasty weathered copper color, not appealing to the consumer, but cod don't see to mind.
redlite 11-19-2003, 12:44 PM I am the cod Jinx.
fishsmith 11-19-2003, 12:52 PM Redlite is correct, he emits something that prevents bottom fish from hitting. I think if he stands on a bag of sand next time, the comfort feeling will return and he'll start hooking up.
redlite 11-19-2003, 12:55 PM the Captain recommends perhaps an exorcisim that involves a chicken or something................or maybe even a goat..............
fishsmith 11-19-2003, 01:30 PM If it means more fish, do it.
InshoreAngler 11-19-2003, 03:07 PM lol......i gues ill pick up a few different kinds and see which one works best
how about the teasers?? got a 100 pack of 3" pink B2 squids....good teasers?
Fisherwoman 11-19-2003, 03:36 PM InshoreAngler, keep it simple, go with different weights as you never know what the wind and tide will do to you out there. I have used the mega-bait jigs in the mackerel pattern and have had great success with them, also the norwiegen jigs, picked them up at fore river bait and tackle as he is giving a 15% discount on jigs right now.
But as I said get a few different weights. As far as teasers go I really think that just about any soft plastic, from curly tail grubs to those little squids will work. Have done great this year with pink/white, orange/yellow, and purple.
