I start cutting about 45 degrrees to the reel seat and "spiral around" the seat from end to end. Just keep an eye on your depth of cut. I use 2 ton epoxy and masking tape bushings...not rodbond. afterhours 06-26-2004, 09:30 AM don,t know much about rod bond, is it epoxy? i've removed many reel seats that were epoxied on using heat, epoxy has low desinagration temp. macojoe 07-04-2004, 06:02 PM Dremil tool for me to get one side opened up, then like said above heat. But becareful not to cut into the blank and use the slow heat!! To muchheat can kill the rod to! afterhours 07-04-2004, 06:12 PM macojoe, you're right about too much heat, i should have mentioned that. too much will cause a blank to go "soft". have'nt tried opening up with my dremel first, but will. Goose 07-04-2004, 07:02 PM What rapt tite said Saltheart 07-13-2004, 02:02 PM I use a dremel with a cut off wheel down both sode of the seat. Then a screwdriver in the cut slot and twist and the halfs will split and come off. Cutting one slot its still difficult to get the seat off unless there are no guides yet. Billy 40 07-13-2004, 02:27 PM HTe easiest way I found, for this specific situation is - to build the rod the right way the first time, and not flip flop what you want to use the rod for. Or just buy another blank. lol. fishaholic18 07-13-2004, 02:34 PM I found the same Billy. I tried everything short of cutting the blank and drilling the seat. It won't come off!! Rapt Tite 07-13-2004, 02:54 PM How many rodbuilders does it take to remove a reel seat? answer: 10...bring it to the BBQ and we'll figure out a way!! I'll belt sand it into dust in a heartbeat. fishaholic18 07-13-2004, 03:00 PM Rap, mind you , I want to save the blank and the seat, well after a few cold ones, I may not care either way.:smash: Rapt Tite 07-13-2004, 03:14 PM Save the blank?...yes. Save the reel seat?..only if you want to keep it a spinning rod. I'm pretty good with my belt sander and will show you this technique on one of my rods first if interested.RT Billy 40 07-13-2004, 03:50 PM Save the seat?
