Do you all go out at once, and circle up when you find fish? macojoe 09-25-2004, 06:38 PM Find fish and circle the wagons!! Fish away!! :laughs: Well I think we will all set out at the same time and when someone finds a good place to fish they can call the others. I am sure 9 boats are not going to stay toghter all day but we should not all be to far from one another and no one boat should be alone!! This way we all get fish, have contact with one another, and if anyone gets in trouble someone is close by to help!! I no some will want to go off on there own, and thats ok but this is a party trip for us all to get to meet with one another, and learn a new fishing area. I hope we will all stay some what toghter. Usually when I go out with friends, I like to say we go toghter and come back toghter !! This leaves no one alone. eathier way I am sure it will be a blast! I just need to get a radio before then!! :laughs: BrianS 09-26-2004, 09:21 AM I went out on Captain John's for the all day Stellwagon trip with my Dad yesterday. The fishing was unbeleivable. Well over 400 fish kept, and not too many dogs out there. Lots of really nice haddock and cod. Saw my first wolffish and sea pout. People with their own gear (teasers etc) definitely caught more than those without but the fishing was superb for all. The captain said it was one of the top 3 days he has ever had out there. Youngmoon74 09-26-2004, 09:58 AM How was Capt John's?(boat size, # of ppl etc) BrianS 09-26-2004, 10:01 AM This trip worked well The boat holds I think 70 or 80 people.. but they hold this trip to 50 people max... its a special trip they do on saturdays.. costs a we bit more.. but worth it. every other slot was empty... not too many tangles (the few dogfish caught were the culprit) Youngmoon74 09-26-2004, 10:06 AM wow that's nice... I went on yankee fleet last week on a wed and they put too many ppl on....lots of tangles and dogs. How long did it take to get out to stellwagon? and is the all day 8 hrs? BrianS 09-26-2004, 10:43 AM 2 hour ride... 6am-4pm so what... 6 hours fishing? Youngmoon74 09-26-2004, 10:53 AM not bad, we went form 7-4, 2hr ride not a bad trip out but too many dogs and too many ppl that day....o well can't have it all....:D Raider Ronnie 09-26-2004, 07:09 PM I was out by the b bouy doing a little exploring for cod. Caught 14 Cod with 8 keepers up to 13 pounds, 5 Haddock, all keepers to 5 1/2 pounds and quite a few Dogfish-some even on teasers. The fish are out there and I guess the Haddock are moving in shallower. I launched out of Plymouth and ended up doing most of the catching in 150-170 just east of the bank. I had never caught a Haddock on my boat so that was pretty cool. Looking forward to the trip on the 23rd. I am sorry I ever went from OB to a I/O!!! When the OB goes just hang another one!!! I/O used you are going to sink a ton of cash!!! Salt water cooled will rot out the heads!! risers, elbows, bellows hoses, out drive bellows hoses A car motor was never ment to be in a boat!!! Rusted oil pan, water splashing around the bilge will kill the starter and every wire will be coroded all the time!! You will spen hours and hours looking for that 1 wire that is rotted!! I test drive it tomorrow anyone have any knowledge on the 3.0 mercury I/0?? [/B] To me the Question should be if a 3.0 I/O has the power for a 20 foot boat.... I ran a 3.0 merc. I/O in a 20 foot boat for 7 years. The boat was a walkaround 2500 pounds. It was great for trolling if thats your thing. I thought it was underpowerd:smash: AN I/O has more upkeep and more parts to fail. RI Popper 10-23-2004, 07:55 AM Some good information both ways on it. As far as underpowered It is lighter than yours was. I think it's about 2,000. And It does around 35 mph. good enough for me. I'm not a sweetwater bass man lol. likwid 10-23-2004, 08:53 AM I'm surprised the number of people who are still so obsessed with going fast especially with the price of gas still going up. (But in reality not that many people are going anywhere, nevermind going fast. This past summer powerboats barely moved from Fairhaven Shipyard.) Out to the Canyons in a 35 foot Blackwatch we only did 22 knots. Out to Cuttyhunk in a 25 foot Mako we only did 20 knots usually. But hey, usually this is on boats that are fished 3-4 times a week. :D And honestly, having spent my life on boats and around boat yards and having known plenty of people with both I/Os, outboards and inboards, the I/Os and inboards had less problems hands down. Lets not mention the ficht debacle. :laughs: And I/O engine parts are typically cheaper. You buy the parts at NAPA, not the boat yard. (Unless you like being ripped off.) And please for those of you with outboards, stop buying your marked up "special" sparkplugs at the boatyard, they're not special. No matter how many times the dealer sprinkles charm powder on your head. Throw a set of Bosch Platinums in em and be done. You want reliability? 30 foot lobster boat hull with an inboard cummins turbo diesel, dry stack, and keel coolers. And you can fish year round in comfort. Vectorfisher 10-23-2004, 10:12 AM All I can say is I have had both and F*** the I/O. I/O was the same year as the TROUBLED FICHT and I put half the hours on the I/O and spent triple what I have spent on the outboard, also had to be towed in on 2 seperate occasions and never went offshore luckily the TROUBLED FICHT has always gotten me home and as far as gas my new boat is at least a thousand pounds more with 40 more hp than the I/O performance is so much better and very little difference in fuel usage, however I do add oil now. And I now have a much longer season with the outboard now that I do not have to worry about freeze ups. Vectorfisher 10-23-2004, 10:14 AM <<last i looked a v6 block was about $4000 ready to go from Mercury. a new outboard was $15,000 huh which is more expensive again? also I/O's are better on fuel all in all inboard is the way to go hands down.>> __________________ By the way price the total package with outdrive and all plus installation and report back on which is cheaper! I too can buy a new powerhead for $ 4000.00 And how about that huge engine box that takes up the back of the boat? Oh dont get me going there is a huge list ;) macojoe 10-23-2004, 12:13 PM Well I have also had both!! I/O is nice quite, cheap gas, easy to work on, and cheaper parts. But in my opion Outboard is the way to go!! Tghe problem is with I/O is that there is always something to be done!!! It never stops!! You are going to play with the I/O every year!!!! even if it is litle stuff. My O/B which may be more on gas, more $$ for parts, and it is quiter the the I/O was!! Never has probklems!!so far. But when you look at it you will see for the most part the OB is going to run Much much longer with out a single problem and that imo is what I want care free boating. Iwannakeeper 10-28-2004, 02:54 AM I am in either weekend Iwannakeeper 10-28-2004, 05:24 PM So - are we a go? work has made my participation this week tentative. I have only gotten 5 hours sleep in the last 3 days. I am a little punchy....looks like another all nighter tonight and potentially tomorrow night, which would take me out of the running for a cod trip this weekend. But if all goes well, I will get some sleep tomorrow and get out on the boat Saturday - if it is a go. Sure seems to have lost a lot of steam. -IWK Vectorfisher 10-28-2004, 05:28 PM I dont know about the rest of the gang but if Raider Ronnie is going out on Saturday we could make it a two boat run to do some jiggin. Only thing is the weather forecast seems to be erradic all week. BigPete 10-28-2004, 07:37 PM The wind forecast for Friday is excellent <5kt with <1' seas and the weekend sucks. Notaro 10-29-2004, 08:47 AM i sure hope that it will stays beautiful next weekend. BigPete 10-29-2004, 10:51 AM This morning was wicked cold and the wind at dawn was >10 WSW here in Plymouth. Once I rounded the Gurnet there was a 6 to 8' swell coming in from the NE but there was plenty of separation so we headed up to High Pines (nada) and then to Farnham Rock (3 dogfish). The swells were starting to steepen and some were rolling in closer to shore so we bagged it and went to Bickfords for a nice hot breakfast. No fish, it was cold but the sunrise was absolutely beautiful and it is always a pleasure to fish with my friend George:D RI Popper 10-29-2004, 04:10 PM Mr. Macey my friend. Called Striper1 on the vhf to see how the seas were on the outside, but i couldn't hear his response! Thats where the nice day ended!!! My motor started coughing and kept stalling :af: I checked the water separator and it was FULL of water:af: I pulled the cowling off the motor to see the gas filter on the enging was FULL also!!! :af: That was about 9:00am , It took All day to get the problem fixed:af: Vectorfisher 10-31-2004, 09:07 PM I watched the weather forecast closely and didnt go out but I swear if things down the water were like it was at my house they royally screwed the wind forecast up.:( Tomorrow the boat goes in for the new Suzuki 250 and I should have it for midweek so if the weather is nice next weekend I am gonna be out. macojoe 10-31-2004, 09:17 PM Well thats sucks!!!
