Who is willing to get toghter like we did last year and go Cod fishing??

We will all meet at a yet to be dertermined Ramp and head out for a day of cod.

Last year we had like 5 or 6 boats. Those with out boats that want to go can hook up with a member with a boat for the day. Cheaping in for expenses of coarse.

So who, where, and when do we want to go??

i would love to go. i am one of the "without boat" guys. i have most of the gear, though.

I would like to go, but I don't have any cod setup. How far are we willing to go for whale cods?

But of course I need to hitch a ride this year.

I'm another NON boat person, but I have LOTS of gear. :) I can outfit another couple of people if need be. ;) Plenty of big cod jigs.

I'm a non-smoker if that makes any difference. I've fished w/ plenty of people who do smoke so it doesn't matter to me.

I can fillet OK, too. (dry land only - too dangerous in a bouncing boat....LOL) ;)

I am in could fish 3 guys and myself comfortably, limited experience though have not been out there on a steady basis so have much to learn about locations.

Note: this were origionally made for electric reels and whatnot and weigh ALOT. (Way more than any jig you can buy at the store)
Especially tough on the arms.
But the rest of the rig is easy to make.
Just need 200lb mono, some teasers and an evening of boredom. :D

Can you boat guys post the length of your boat? I'm trying to get on one that is longer rather than <20'.

It can get crowded out there on weekends, but cooler weather scares off most folks. ;)

Maco Joe- I have a 25 foot proline walk. I keep it in Weymouth. I can fish up to four without everybody getting all tangled up. I work 6 days a week. I only have sundays off. If we do it in Oct. I can take the time off. Just need some head up time.

I work when work calls 24/7 but dont count me in if theres room and Im free Ill go but I cant make plans this soon Oct 23-25 I have a 30 hour trip so I cant do that weekend and I dont want to tie up a spot keeping someone from going when the dates get closer Ill chime in last year with all the last minute cancelations Right "notaro and budfan" Ill bet theres room that day.:rolleyes:

My boat is a Parker 2320, it is called a 23 ft. boat but it's more like 28 ft.

No boat would love to go, can probably get some numbers for haddock! East of stellwagon! I hope to get out in a couple weekends with my buddy on his boat, we have done very well out there.

Just seeing this thread for the first time. I won't be offended if you say the trip is full.

I have a 22' WA Cuddy and can take 2 passengers. I also have the tuna permit if we are lucky enought to run into any.

I'm a little iffy about the weather that late in the season however. Both dates are good but only if the weather is good.

october or november is good, MJ. big fat whale cods... forget the inshore stuffs.:D

Works for me. Still up in air for who's comming with me. Mad dog has pm me, tlapinski, and lou. As far as parking goes, Weymouth boat ramp has lots of parking. Not to far for Raider Ron to go. I am not sure if my boat club will still have docks in that late. I will check. If it does, free parking and it will be closer to Rons Marina.

Ronnie - if my boat is NOT done I'll go with you and seeing that's the likely outcome I'll reserve my spot. IF my boat is done, I'll take two people that:

a) Have serious Foul Weather Gear
b) Have some cod gear
c) Like getting wet

Going to need directions to the ramp and all of us guys trailering up there should convoy in case there is trouble with something.

Yes Quick has given me somw dir. but I will ask him for better ones as the date gets closer/ I have spoke with him about it all ready.
I live on the Cape (Yarmouth) and will be going rt 6 to sagamore rotary and then up rt 3 to the ramp. we could meet at rotary if any one is going to be going that way??

I have gone to Nantucket and back with some moving around and have never used more then 25 gal!! thats a 50+ miles!! But if I had only had 28 gallons I would have been cutting it close!!
I have added a tank since those days and nw carry 65 gallons and that should be fine! I hope

To get fish now I go about a 2 + hr ride from my dock or about 45 miles each way.
As the water temp lowers the ride will be less as the fish will move in closer and I don't have to jig in as deep water.

The fish have tails so some days you have to move from spot to spot, so more fuel will get burned.
My boat holds 150 gals and my 4stroke burns very little so fuel consumption and range is not a big issue for me!

Well I am not sure we have a day set in stone yet?? TRO wants to do a Sunday and since he is a boat guy we want to try to get the boats all toghter. Then the riders.

Only problem with planning a Sunday trip is if the weather sucks you have nothing to fall back on, if you try for Saturday and it's snotty there is always Sunday, not that I care either way.

Well howdy gang. I might be up for a trip. I'll take my 20'. I've fished out of there quite a bit. Plenty of cod spots in shore around that time. Saturdays are good for me Sunday is church day :) I'll probably bo out befor then to scope out some spots and put meet in the freezer.

Then everyone can put there boats away of course I want everyone to agree with this so I can go RI Popper I want to be on your boat I cant do the 23rd or 24th Im working a 30 hour limo trip that weekend boy I hope I can go.

What should we be bringing for bait? All I have ever used is clams...

Does that interfere with jigging at all?

It hasnt been brought up in a bit, are we doing a pool? How much?

Wellm, its not as easy keeping track as I thought!! But since I started it I better finish it!


As for bait, and rod, I am set up with a 30# class rod with a penn113 eletric reel :D with 80# Tuff line (dacron)

I jig only with no bait.
I have some home made jigs I use, and use different color teaser above that. I use any were from a 17 oz jig to 24 oz jigs

And there you have it! Thats a chatam rig but I am sure its good every were but the the teasrer color can be different were ever you go?

Maybe some of ther guys that fish were we are going can tell us what colors to use and what weight we need to have?

man, thats a deep water rig. I am used to like 30 lb mono and a 6 oz diamond jig, or clam belly w/ 5 oz lead and a teaser..... But that is a Rhody rig that worked when I was a kid and there were cod not too far off the beaches here in 40-60 ft of water. How deep will we be fishing? I have a 114H that isn't spooled with anything, but man that is a big ass reel to go codfishing.................

And I use to get 500# = aday!! So when you have that much reeling to do eletric is the way to go!!

Eletric, Its the only way to go!!

My trailer is so scary!! The boat will fall right off if I am not careful!! I have the boat tounge crank as hi as it will go here in the yard, so that when it rains it will all just run out the back.
Well I like to losen the winch when it is sitting here in the yard just so that there is not a constant persure there on the bow hook.
Well I went out side one day and I saw the boat at the end of the safty chain!! It will roll right off if not for the chain!!
So I can launch in any water or none at all!

I have never been there or even no were it is?/ But I think I have like 150 mile range with my boat, give or take a mile or so.

Yes we definately need to come up with a plan.

as far as the dumping grounds sometimes it holds fish, sometimes it doesn't. I sure aint going 80 miles off shore. I'll do stellwagon at best. No need to go way out there that time of year. I'll stay in shore and find plenty of fish :) Never failed yet.

I think we are asking for trouble if 9 or ten boats go out to wildcat. The chances of someone breaking down is high. Thats a long way back at 4 knots.

I hold 110 gallons of fuel and can cruise right around 9 gallons an hour, with 2 guys in boat. Have never had 5 people aboard so am not sure what gph would be with ice,fuel,5 people, and fishing gear, them jigs get pretty heavy:D I only fear the devil himself:af: so if I had the range to get to greenland and the condition allowed I would be off there if need be. Link if you prefer Plymouth we could go out together, not sure how far you have been.

But do we get to the same places were the others are going?? As Plymouth is much closer to me as far as trailering. And how far is it to meet up with the others?? as I have 65 Gal gas I think like a 150 mile range I will say 125 to be safe!!

Last time macojoe and I hooked up with Swede and Striper1, they had to go out to the Flemish Cap to avoid all the dogfish. Swede was the dogfish king that day!:laughs:

I know we are all leaving from Weymouth but for your future information MJ, if there is a decent ramp near P-town you are real close to good fishing. You would be surprised at the cod AND Haddock caught right near the beach. The guys trolling for bass look at you kind of strange when your flinging cod jigs. Stelly is not too far off from there. The closest ramp to Stelly for time and milage seems to be Green Harbour, we usually launch from there when we trailer, if its to rough we will hit the H or head North and fish the ledges all great ares.

it's a long drive to drive out to Truro to launch. I just assume heading out of green harbor or weymouth.

I've caught cod less than a mile off P town myself :)

RI I live in the mid Cape. I can be at the secuit ramp in 15 min. and I for get but I think it is like 8 or 9 miles to p-town from there.

I would like to try it sometime?? I guess I am going to have to do a search and destrot mission over there soon.

More than likely that will be just fine. Chances are we'll be staying in shore. The bite should be in by then. I typically only use up to 10 oz pipe jigs unless there is a strong wind.
