A hardcover colletion of Papa's best fishing stories - some fiction some from his days as an outdoor writer for the St. Louis Post Dsipatch - great stuff...$10 off list...

This is a classic novel of a young man who goes to Alaska as greenhorn and becomes a fisherman - there is a big cult following of this book and its sequel.

Hal Lyman passed away this year but this work stands as the definitive bluefish treatise.

Excerpt from page 666 of Clammers book on bluefishing?...

"And then the ####!!##@@%% bluebastid bit my %%###$$ eel in half, so I thew his M%%##F$$$#@@ in a blender and fed the %%#### to the herring in my pen.
All-in-all, it was a good $#$%$# F%%##@ day bluefishing."

Yes, Blues destroy gear. Yes , Blues do not taste as good as a bass. Also left unchecked Blues will wipe out fish
populations. Blues are scary ! But they fight hard and do have
similar traits as Bass.
When Bass were in decline a Blue was all that was readily available. Blues hit plugs etc...
Blues are a noble gamefish . If your baits are bit in
half (eels) try fishing with only lures.
Lyman in my opinion was a great author and fisherman.
In the 50's and 60's an 8 lb. Blue was big. Menhaden(pogies) were not very abundant .
i prefer to fish for Bass and know the subtle differences
of how to fish for each.(bass&blues). Sometimes they
overlap but life in general is not always rocket science
Rocket science involves exact facts. Fishing involves
(believe it or not) far more variables.
Please dont knock Blues. i hope we never experience
another Striper draught . Yet if we do , the Blues hopefully
will be here to make fishing interesting.

I have some issues with that... any science to back it up?
We are the decline in baitfish populations, not bluefish....

Just curious..

And yes I do target bluefish in August when the bay bite is dead for bass....

There was once a man named Clammer

who's favorite bloofishing tool was a hammer

he'd sit on his ass wishing for bass

only to catch 12 pound slammers
