View Full Version : Fish_Eye: Say It Ain't So!
Crafty Angler 01-04-2002, 11:56 PM When I talked to Tattoo a while ago he told me he was going to the East Bay Anglers seminar in Barrington.
Now it turns out he's gonna be PART of the show.
Geez, Fish-Eye, don't ya think some folks might be frightened?
JohnR 01-05-2002, 08:27 AM Isn't there a law about that? Something like "no shirt - no service" :gf:
Tattoo 01-06-2002, 06:41 AM Got Elephant Man?
Fish_Eye 01-06-2002, 08:37 AM I wasn't sure my video presentation would be a big enough hit...I went with the sure thing...Everyone likes a freak show.
I was just trying to do my part and "Get a freak back to work!"
see attached http://webusers.anet-stl.com/~civil/Freak%20Show/freak-page1-introduction.html

GBOUTDOORS 01-06-2002, 02:38 PM How is the East Bay show I have never been but bought two tickets for this year?
JohnR 01-06-2002, 03:12 PM GB - Welcome to Striped-Bass!! Another fellow Rho Dyslanduh?
How is the East Bay show you ask? I dunno, this is the first year that I'm going to be there. But I do know that a few of the "events" are certainly worth seeing.
GBOUTDOORS 01-06-2002, 03:28 PM Thanks for the reply
NO not from RI next door in Mass. Just getting back into striper fishing. My wife bought me a seaswirl 18.5 center consel last fall and I got to do some fishing in Sept. and Oct. can't wait for spring. Our family has a house on cuttyhunk that I have not been to for 18 yrs and hope to use it this year with the boat.!!!
Slipknot 01-06-2002, 04:09 PM So, GBOUTDOORS, nice to meet ya old buddy. Cuttyhunk you say, hmmmmm. Anytime you need a first mate just say the word. I got plugs:D anything I can do to refresh you on striper fishing just ask :) Welcome to the site.
GBOUTDOORS 01-06-2002, 04:18 PM Keep in touch I would be happy to have some company. I fished alone most of last fall as my son was to busy and could not get the time he works mainly in the summer for the Mass. Div. of fisheries and is out straight in the summer and fall.Come on spring time!!!;)
Got Stripers 01-06-2002, 05:53 PM Hey, hey, just because Slippy is home all doped up on cabinet dust and paint fumes and happened to respond first.....no fair :). Does the boat have room for 2 mates?
GBOUTDOORS 01-06-2002, 06:38 PM Yes there is room for two. If you are going to the East Bay show maybe I will see you there.Have not used eels before and would like to learn how.Got a Penn intl. 965 for xmass and a custom rod from CMS to match.Had good luck pluging in old spots and would like to try casting eels in some of these holes.:)
JHABS 01-06-2002, 07:20 PM GBOUTDOORS, Welcome, And maybe could help you with PLUG and HERRING fishing
GBOUTDOORS 01-06-2002, 07:32 PM Have you tried stillwater plugs yet I found them at Buckos in Fall River this fall and had great luck with them. The popper is great it is a floter and casts a mile. I had days that they would hit nothing else.I have done lots of pluging off Cuttyhunk as I spent lots of my summers there as a young fisherman but have not had the time to fish or go to the island for years but now feel it is time to make time to fish more LOTS more.:)
Clammer 01-06-2002, 08:10 PM G, welcome to the site, don,t listen to all these comments !! them there weekend fishes, the clamdigger fishes all the time ,and all kinds of ways, if you don/t have room, just drop me off on the island, later be seeing you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:laughs: :laughs: :laughs:

GBOUTDOORS 01-07-2002, 06:45 PM Again thanks for the welcome wish I had found this site last fall.Sorry but its been a long time since I had a boat so you will have to ride/wash/fish/or sleap but I like to drive for now!:smash:
OHOY mate ,climb aboard,YOU'LL be in for a good ride.Where's ya from in MA:smash:
GBOUTDOORS 01-07-2002, 07:04 PM From Fairhaven these days. From Dartmouth as a kid and summers on Nashawena and Cuttyhunk Islands. My aunt and uncle were the caretakers on island for 42 years and I got to spend summers there fishing.
Crafty Angler 01-08-2002, 04:25 PM Welcome aboard, GB -
See what ya did, now you've got yourself 50 deckhands - just try to not get these guys (myself included) too wound up with Cuttyhunk stories - at this time of year that's not hard to do anyway.
It's a great spot here, you'll like it - John's got a good crew here.
Clammer 01-08-2002, 05:13 PM If there ever was a dying and going to heaven , place to be as a teenager, you were there,,,,YOOOOOOOOOOO later:happy:
GBOUTDOORS 01-08-2002, 06:35 PM Your right and can,t wait for spring to start fishing it all over again. But my biggest striper was not cought there it was a 48# cought in padarnaram harbor in 1973. We can,t all fit in the boat at once but I will be happy to have a few GOOD fisherman along to help gaf the big ones.
Clammer 01-08-2002, 08:10 PM GB, but back in 1973 you caught the 48# on a pogie, along with everyone else, SOOOOOOOOOO that doesn,t count!!!!!!!!!!;)
JohnR 01-08-2002, 08:10 PM GB - you were still dealing in the same pool of fish ;) - if you have a mild case of the sniffles, you'll find 100 or so here offerin' a Kleenex :hihi: for shot to be first mate for a day at Cuttyhunk. No bashfull souls here.
Sandman had us all worked up a couple months ago when he was surfcasting that little island, I still drool occasionally... We were also tossing an idea about of getting a few of us together and surf fishing it....
Here was the thread we had going back then: http://www.striped-bass.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1865&highlight=cuttyhunk
Were you confident with your boat in those waters? I'm toying with the idea of a boat too TO SUPLEMENT my surf fishing (I can see me getting yelled at by a bunch of people now). That is in the range of what I'm considering, more specifically: center consoles from 19-23 feet, like an old Seacraft (Billboy - i GOTS to check out your boat sometime & get some inspiration) or Mako or something new like a Seaswirl/H-sport/Triumph with enough decent deadrise... That area is one of the areas that I intend to boatfish and I want a boat that is safe (all things relative) in a snot SW running through...
Clammer 01-09-2002, 03:55 PM John,Ihave a friend that has one of those old seacrafts with some seroius fishing hours on it [outside] If you want to check it out , let me know, its just a couple of miles from us and its out of the water having work done/////////////////////Mike
JohnR 01-09-2002, 04:09 PM TALK TO ME BROTHER!!!!

Crafty Angler 01-10-2002, 03:24 PM GB, you seem like a pretty nice fella, but maybe you oughta wait til you meet this crew...
Tattoo, make him sit next to Iron Mike?
Geez, give the guy a break, he just got here.
Tattoo 01-10-2002, 03:27 PM Unlce Crafty,
Looks like someone has been hitting the Vermooth a bit hard this afternoon....the comment was tagreted towards Fish-Eye, not GB.....I gotta be real nice to get a ride to that island remember? ;)
Crafty Angler 01-10-2002, 04:01 PM Ooops...nevermind.
I was paying too much attention to work and not the website - ahhhh, work interferes with fun too much anyway.
But hey, that's a pretty serious threat - even for Fish_Eye!
BTW, I spoke to the Iron One last nite - the club meeting is next Thursday and a bunch of the guys are gonna bring old plugs as Dennis asked for a show and tell, so the Sheik is gonna bring some of his.
This is gonna be something, they better have security at the doors, is all I can say. You better start digging, Tattoo. This could be another plug war. :smash:
I'll send ya the newsletter via PM.
JohnR 01-10-2002, 08:57 PM Thursday, eh? Old plugs & berries...
Tattoo is selling flesh at the EBA...
GBOUTDOORS 01-10-2002, 10:36 PM I have not had time yet to look for them but guess what you did on nashuena island if you where not fishing or milking cows? Thats right walking the shore and piking up plugs and thats what my uncle did for 42 years. The last time I was there we had 5-6 bushel baskets of plugs in the cellar and plugs hung all the way around the house out on the porch. Could be some good ones there.
Crafty Angler 01-11-2002, 02:00 PM John - (And anyone else who may be interested)
The meeting Thursday nite I was talking about was The Newport County Saltwater Fishing Club meeting - it's at 7 PM at the Newport Yacht Club on Long Wharf in Newport.
DZ is club president, we have 80-90 members and a good speaker schedule coming up - if any of you are interested in the club or would like to come to hear one of our speakers, or see some of the collectible plugs Thursday you're more than welcome!
Tattoo is gonna be our newest recruit - he may have an old plug or two to bring - if Iron Mike brings even part of his collection it could be real interesting -
Clammer 01-11-2002, 02:05 PM Did somebody set G/B up on this site to drive us nuts////
First Cuttyhunk and now baskets of old plugs////:confused:
GBOUTDOORS 01-11-2002, 02:34 PM Clamdigger sorry I got you all worked up but no this is not a set up. If you look at the picture bellow you can see that my uncle also collected clamshells and made mosaics from them back in the early 60s. Sorry but if you look you will also see a few plugs hanging on the wall behind the bass. I was only on the island for a hour or so the day I took these pic. so I did not have time to go in the cellar to look for the baskets.
Crafty Angler 01-11-2002, 02:54 PM Okay, GB, we believe ya now - see ya at the show.
I was afraid in your next post you were gonna tell us you were really a girl and looked just like Pamela Anderson - - then we woulda been suspicious.
That's a real nice mosaic your uncle did -
Crafty Angler 01-11-2002, 02:55 PM Hmmm...is that some amber Atoms I see there?
GBOUTDOORS 01-11-2002, 04:16 PM Yes Crafty those are amber atoms seams I remember lots of atoms in the collection of all colors and types. Back then they where the most popular I guess. Can you believe that I stayed away from the island for 18 yrs.Now that I look back WHAT A FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smash: :( :( :( :(
bloocrab 01-11-2002, 05:57 PM ....Crafty , ?......do we need a chaperone ? .....or just walk right in ....to see the freak show....:D
Clammer 01-11-2002, 07:31 PM G/B just the envy coming out
But staying away for 18 years????????????/
hope to see you at the show ,but that will only happen if we catch up with you at Johns booth/////
they have already sold over 500 tickets///////////////later:btu: :btu:
GBOUTDOORS 01-11-2002, 08:35 PM What kind of booth does John have there?
Tattoo 01-11-2002, 08:37 PM 500 people???
GBOUTDOORS 01-11-2002, 08:39 PM Still have one extra ticket and have not heard if Milo wants it or not anyone else need it I hate not to use it!!!!!
Slipknot 01-11-2002, 08:55 PM When is the show?
GBOUTDOORS 01-11-2002, 09:10 PM Tue night doors open at 6:00 show at 7:00 at the barrington high
AnthonyN 01-11-2002, 09:21 PM Its on Tuesday January 15th at barrington H.S. It will be close to 600 people going. They used to hold it at the middle school but they needed more room. I don't know if they have sold out but I have someone whos intrested and I have someone from EBA checking for it out for me for tickets.
Still here GB and I will buy that ticket from you:happy:
GBOUTDOORS 01-12-2002, 08:52 AM Ok its yours but you can have it I just ddin't want it to not be used.I will be there at 6:00 and will leave it at the door for you and you can ask for it or you can meet me at the door its up to you.:)
JohnR 01-12-2002, 09:11 AM No booth but I'll be at Fish_Eye's booth with a laptop and a demo of the site...
GBOUTDOORS 01-13-2002, 08:20 AM About that weekend we also have a lot at the top of the hill on the island that I use to put a tent up on and stay there for the summer. I am going to check to see if we can still put up a tent if so then we would have a place to put Tattoo and Clamdigger.Sorry Tattoo but no freaks in the house.
Crafty Angler 01-13-2002, 09:01 AM Well, my EBA tickets showed up yesterday, they were #'s 539 and 540 - so it looks like there's gonna be a big turnout for the seminar.
I'm gonna try to get there early for a good seat - figure I'll probably run into a bunch of fellow SB'ers.
We'll probably be hanging around Fish_Eye's booth - don't know what it looks like, I haven't been to the EBA show since it's first few years but I remember Fish_Eye's first booth.
This year it'll probably have Tattoo's name on it, I guess.
bloocrab 01-13-2002, 10:56 AM Oldest one I could find :D
GBOUTDOORS 01-13-2002, 10:59 AM So bloo were did you get my picture from now you all now what I look like!!!!
