View Full Version : How late can the Fall run go?
Squibby17 10-24-2005, 10:33 AM With the recent slew of bad weather and obligations this upcoming Halloween weekend. Is it worth fishing into November? I'm no googan but I have generally stopped throwing plugs once November comes around. I see lots of guys here talk about the snow storm blitz in the 80's when I was around 8 years old, so I don't know of it.
So given that water temps were a little higher than normal, can we expect to have fishing up to turkey day?
What is the latest date you have caught bass (warm water discharge spots aside) ?
MakoMike 10-24-2005, 10:41 AM Last year we were still catching stripers the weekend after Thanksgiving, if anything this year should go even later.

What he said.
There was a nice school of fish that went through that week after thanksgiving last year. the whole south coast of RI was a blitz. Then I went out on Dec. 5 and the sea was dead. that was my last day last year.
This year I am going to try to learn some winter techniques from Clammah. Apparently he fishes the bay year round.

Rappin Mikey 10-24-2005, 12:38 PM I don't fish Boston to much, but you're not to far form Rhody or even CT. I make the commute from the Springfield area every weekend until usually the first week of December. Hey, gas prices just fell.
rhodyflyguy 10-24-2005, 12:58 PM blues are still in solid. and the herring run last novernber was awesome.
riverrat2 10-24-2005, 01:48 PM As of last friday night there were still good size fish on the so. shore of mass. I think there is at least another 3-4 weeks of fishing in that small state to the south of us(no spot burn).
nightfighter 10-24-2005, 04:32 PM Fished lunchtime today up here with Steelhead and Doc. Lotsa micros, and I got a nice 35" fatty willing to take a needle on a slooowwww retrieve. I believe we will have fish around later than any of the past three or four years based upon the numbers still around.
spence 10-24-2005, 04:59 PM There's still a lot of bait that hasn't even dropped out of the upper bay yet.

Clammer 10-24-2005, 06:21 PM Yesterday // there was a school of F#$%^&* bloos / mid Bay /they threw me a curve // they were stacked on the bottom like winter bass /drifted over them three times & three bLOOooos - that won,t be going south ..
Today ,birds were working about 1/2 mile from where I saw them yesterday ===just kept going // F #$%^&*(^&* FISH
basswipe 10-24-2005, 06:38 PM In '02 I caught bass into the 1st week of Dec.
Right now there are a ton of bass still around.Just walked in from fishing a bass blitz.Nothing big(3-8#ers) but when you get 50 or so in a row its still fun.
Squibby17 10-24-2005, 06:58 PM Thanks for the info guys. I guess I should keep my line in the water until I find no reason to. The cold weather is the only thing that may slow people down but given the "fishaholic syndrom " I sense with most of you, many sharpies will still be out in force and the fish chunking beer drinkers will be long gone.
PS. I always find that during ski season "my other passion" people stop waaay to early. In fact most places get more snow in April than February or January.

A legend perhaps, but for god knows what   :hee:
I have to cherish the opportunities to outfish Bryan, cause it doesn't happen very often :lasso:
Pheasant hunting in Iowa is most excellent. It's just like here, if you have access you can get on the choice private land. I used to know guys who would bag well over a hundred birds in a season. It's been years since I've been out though...never got into shooting things.

Bill; ask him what happened Fri. night.... :bl2:
spence 10-26-2005, 12:27 PM Ahhh yes, the mother of all backlashes. Bryan after noticing what went wrong snickered and demanded I return to his truck to fetch him an icy cold beverage. Perhaps if #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& were there instead he would have provided some help to a poor Iowa boy lost without his fields of corn.
There's a special place down below waiting for you Mr. Rockhound, and it doesn't rhyme with the number seven :hs:

RIROCKHOUND 10-26-2005, 12:36 PM First off; dont blame me; I told you to bring the other stick...
2. It was gatorade, not beer
3. You had continued to fish that rod after the 'lash and finally caved in and got the other rod...
4. I never snickered...
Jack-@ss ;)
RIJIMMY 10-26-2005, 12:58 PM Bryan, with all this Spence talk.....did you and Piemma break up?

spence 10-26-2005, 01:06 PM I'm in communication with Piemma as I type this. He is currently driving back from NY and will be back online later today.
Besides, everybody knows he's with #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& now  :laugha: :rotf2:

My fish was bigger. Oh course we will never know for sure since Bryan was practicing "catch and release" with Spence's fish.

Pete_G 10-27-2005, 02:35 PM You can always have a random blitz of fish too, well after everything seems to be gone. 3 or 4 years back keeper bass blitzed 2nd beach on my birthday. X-mas Eve...
RIROCKHOUND 10-27-2005, 02:38 PM Yup, mid Dec, when the BFT were spotted off the Ave.'s we saw them go by inshore of us while blackfishing.. it was NW20kts so we stayed anchored up and kept fishing...
Dec. 7th 3 years ago saw Bluefish come off a SoCo beach
Same day I took small bass, so how late??/ who knows
but the Temp is dropping fast 55 where I was in the bay today, 6 Oct it was 71 in the same place....
