I recently purchased a GPS handheld and want to get it programmed before the season starts. I'm hoping that some of you guys out of the South County, RI area would be willing to share some coordinates?

Specifically I'm looking for the following...

- Charlestown Breachway
- New Harbor, BI
- Old Harbor, BI
- North Rip
- Southwest Ledge
- Pt Judith
- Nebraska Shoals

Thanks in advance.

I just did the same thing with my new handheld gps yesterday.
I can't help you with coordiantes, but make sure you are using the correct coodinate system.
I created my positions based on degrees/min/seconds

When I entered them, I found out my gps defaulted to
degrees/min/MM. (I don't know what MM is, but is based on a scale of 10 and this scale is very useful on small scale charts)

I think this board is great, but I wouldn't trust plugging in coordinates for safety sake.

I highly recommend getting a chart of the areas you are interested in, and if you don't know how to plot a fix or apply fixed positions on a chart, take a CG auxillary course, or see your local harbor master for some assistance.

Once you know how to accurately plot your own position, you are only limited by the size of your boat and how much you can spend on fuel.

Good luck.

Oliver if you go to MAPTECH on line they have a great on line chart service that is free and you can get your long/lad off the charts by using the pointer and looking at the bottom of the screen. If you can't find it let me know and I will look up the site for you.

Get a "Captain SeaGull's" chart and any of the local marina shops, it will give you all the gps locations for the spots above. it's about $15.00 and nice to keep on the boat...
