If a flyrod comes with an 6-8" retractable extension handle,,, does that mean it was (probably) designed as a 2 handed rod?
I assume a 2 handed rod requires a shooting basket (which I hate) or trampling the line in the sand/rocks. I can see no way to strip from reel as I'm casting. But then again, look who's asking. :spin:
Boy do I feel arcaic!!!
The extension handle is on the rod I've been having trouble with. I was told when bought that it was a "fighting butt" for when you tie a big'un on! (think they saw me comming? I'm starting to wonder).
Thinking now,,, 2 handed? Maybe why it's so top heavy? Maybe why I can't do squat with it single handed?
I tried it 2 handed today,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I also need to find a rock to hide under for being stupid if my hunch is correct. :o

Just for grins;
Usually a "good" cast for me with this is around 45 ft (singlehanded)
Today in the wind,,, I was out to around 95 ft. with COMFORT! (2 handed)
Meanwhile with the old Fenwick of 40-45 yrs. use and Pflueger with #7 DT line is easily good for 75+ ft.
I've a lot to learn!!

95' sounds like you've solved your casting problem with that rod. Whatever works, works, go with it.
