View Full Version : Very wet night in the surf
piemma 08-28-2006, 10:35 PM Joe P and I ventured into the mess out there tonight. Just got in. Nasty nasty night. We had to hunt a bit but we found fish and they all had stripes. Strange bite in that there were pods of Stipers then nothing. Then another pod. It was as if they were looking for bait but there was tons of bait all the while we were at one of the spots we hit. Small stuff, maybe silver sides or small sand eels. Definitely not peanut bunker. There are lots of fish around but it is a search mission. Not easy pickings.
Not easy pickings.
I think ur getting boat spoiled already.
U should be glad to be on the water.
Water is wet.Fish don't mind.
Hunting em is all part of the fun.
was up last weekend for one night.
Seemed like u would get a fish maybe a hit
then u had to move.
like 40 yds to catch the next few fish.
They ain't thick or big yet but they where bites.
They keep ta concentrating.
4 nights this weekend.
Weeeeeeeeeeee.

Tony:
You are right. I got spoiled by the boat. Hadn't been in the surf since July 5th.
Looks like Ernesto is at least gonna bring similar weather for the weekend.
Good more for me.

Paul,
probably in your neck of the woods last night as well
sounds like the same thing i went through last night
picked up fish on consectutive casts, then nothing for a while, then same thing again
overall, it was a good night to be out there
the fish i took was grubbing...nothing in the stomach except lobsters (2) and crabs (2)
Skitterpop 08-29-2006, 09:03 AM some of the mystery bait out there is squid 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches
Yup - like Paul said we got very wet with that NE wind driving rain right into our faces. Felt like an October night but just warmer.
Tons of bait in another spot - appears like its going to be a good Fall with all the bait around in different locations.

piemma 08-29-2006, 10:25 PM I'm not going into details but this weather has turned on the bass fishing in SoCo. I had 10 fish between 9 and 10 tonight and not one was under 35". I don't have any weights because I let all the girls go but it was hot and heavy and, just so everyone knows all the fish were on 4 inch Storms in the holograph color.
I hope the wind change tomorrow doesn't turn things off. This is some of the best August fishing I have seen in a NE wind. Oh and I was in the surf for the 3rd straight night...
Clammer 08-30-2006, 08:01 AM sell the boat :ss:

Good for you, Paul. When are you selling the boat?:hee:
My night went like this.....a black cat crossed my path while traveling to the spot.I almost hit the thing. Then, a white cat, about ten minutes later(no kidding) crossed my path and got hit by the car in front of me.I figured the white one cancelled out the black one, so no bad luck right? Met up with Redlite, who was shouting to me, "Its not that deep you pussy, keep going", while I crossed a treacherous rocky trough, almost up to my neck in water. Nearly drowned twice, broke off a decent fish at my feet, got a few dinks and went home cold and tired. Tonight I will head back to my aquarium for some retribution.:nailem: Oh yeah, met Canalman too. Hi Dave, that spot was as deep as you said it was. Last time I listen to the red lantern, the f!@%$%!%n nut.

Mike. What F*(*&&^^% you are way to experienced to be following redlite, who, by the way, I know and respect. Doesn't sound like you had a lot of fun.
I gotta tell ya. I haven't had a night like last night in a couple of years. Almost forgot how great it can be when it gets good. best part was that I was all alone. This is a spot NO ONE fishes and few know about.

Yeah, it wasn't real bad,Its just that I don't like deep wading.Redlite is my bitch now that Tony's out of action for a while. I need a life jacket and additional life insurance to fish with him, though. Good to hear you got a few good ones. I'll be back tonight in the spot I've been fishing all year, same place I told you I've been getting them. I don't like the spot that much with the northeast wind, which it looks like its gonna be for several more nights. SW wind and you can throw the eels all the way to newport. I'll be with an old surfcasting legend tonight. Maybe we'll see you for a little aftterhours.
