View Full Version : Where do they go in early September?
Pt.JudeJoe 09-08-2006, 10:34 AM It seems that once again it is early Sept. and the bass have become scarce. Over the years I have noticed that in the first 2 weeks of Sept . they seem to "go away". Then the fishing picks up in the second half of the month ,peaking here in Newport ,during the first 2 weeks in Oct. Some say that the local resident fish have moved out of their "summer spots" and have begun the migration.Later in the month ,when the fishing picks up again ,it is fish moving down the coast from the north that we catch . Another theory I have heard is that in early Sept . the fish are "staging" or grouping up to begin the migration. It would be interesting to electronically monitor a few stripers at this time of year to see what goes on. Any thoughts from the Great Minds?

Flaptail 09-08-2006, 12:32 PM Usually the warmest water of the year is actually in the early part of September, that's why the funny fish show then, cept I haven't seen much of them either. I like that gold yellow butterfish metal. It catches.:claps:

Yup, big fish too.:pop:
They do seem to re-stage in early Sept...I've noticed that too. Late summer the first significant cold fronts seem to re-shuffle the deck and its time to spread out again and look for their new residences. Not everywhere though - nothing is absolute.
I've got a few spots that are good in early Sept.
But then you'd have to cross the bridge and you'd be at risk of getting snatched by the troll - and then you'd have to spend the rest of the season at Phil & Ann's Sunset Motel in Charlestown....
bluzjamer 09-08-2006, 11:05 PM Somebody buy #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& some drum sticks and save the striped bass stocks

I figure each fishers personal experience is going to be different from north to south and the ditch is its own world . Most my personal experience is Mass north of the canal on the outside.. not really a bay fisher. I also share your first 2 weeks in Sept lull,, 3rd week they're pushing bait tight to shore and its hot right thru the end of Oct.
