View Full Version : Well, REAL soon, June 8th is the 1st Rhody Leg of the Second Annual Striped-Bass.com
JohnR 05-29-2002, 03:49 PM Well REAL soon, Saturday June 8th, is the 1st Rhody Leg of the Second Annual Striped-Bass.com C&R Tourney to be held at Weekapaug B&T in Westerly Rhode Island. Don & Charlie from Weekapaug have offered up both grilles and a place to meet for the pre-fishing festivities again this year (Thanks guys!!!). They've even offered to keep the shop open for us overnight as a place to hook back up, warm up on some coffee or restock eels & plugs. Don also tells me he'll have plenty of eels available for us for that weekend - (yeh you need to buy them ;) )
Some of the details are here on the last thread (http://www.striped-bass.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2965&perpage=15&highlight=tourney&pagenumber=1 ) but I'll sum up a few key points:
Tourney is open to all members of this message board that can make it (we need to know ahead of time who can go) that have a minimum of ten posts (not 1,2,3,4... :nono: ) and registered one week before - so this Saturday (but I've been known to be flexible). We'll meet & grille then get into various groups of similar fishing styles and head out to the shoreline of Little Rhody ;) .
The goal of this tourney is to meet up & fish with those we converse with & otherwise harrass online. The "Tourney" part is that at the end of all 4 legs, 2 in Mass & 2 in RI, the top 3 anglers with the largest Catch & Release Stripers over 36 inches in length from the tourney will be awarded prizes. Last year we had the top prize of a custom 1088 Rod and 6500 Abu reel donated by Mike T @ capecodtackle.com that went to Redcrbbr and C-Ratt won a custom 10' Pac Bay spinner from Weekapaug B&T. Prizes are still being sorted out for this year but I've already gotten word of plugs, tackle, & a couple rods for this year as well :D ...
All fish are to be at least 36" inches nose to end of tail, measured by another board member & released alive. This way someone witnesses and signs off on it. You do not need to attend every leg but the more you go to, the better yer odds (speaking of odds, I'm fishin' with BM on the Cape Leg ;) )... People that sign up after this leg can still participate in the later Legs too...
Oh yeh, almost forgot, this is a FREE TOURNEY, no fees or donations needed to participate, the whole idea is to meet up and have a good time. We had a blast last year with about 30 people showing even though an offshore hurricane had 6-8 footers breaking on the beach...
The only request is that everyone figures out what they can bring for food to the Kickoff Cookout on Saturday afternoon...
Any Questions?
Looking forward to meeting a lot of the new faces and seeing the "Old Timers" again :btu:
Thanks,
John Redmond

Scotch Bonnet 05-29-2002, 04:22 PM I will be there June 8th. What time for the cook-out. I will bring 30-40 lbs of steamers and the pot/gas cooker. Looks like high tide will be around 7:00pm at Newport so 7:40 for Watch Hill. Breachways will start dumping around 10:30;)
STEVE IN MASS 05-30-2002, 05:55 AM Um, what time we meeting for chow?
I'll bring my usual.....;)
chris L 05-30-2002, 07:05 AM I might be able to show up around 8pm . So I will have to catch up with people out and about.
We will have to see how the day goes for me . So Im not 100% fishing in RI .
JohnR 05-30-2002, 07:26 AM Well, one of the things to hammer out is the cookout time. With High @ 7:40 & sunset @ 8:15, some are going to want to be on the beach then... Say 4pm start ?
Steve - cool....
denis 05-30-2002, 07:40 AM John
I can make this year, please e-mail with what you think we need
and i'll bring it.(boy left myself open on that one).
scotch bonnet do you want butter?
STEVE IN MASS 05-30-2002, 07:52 AM John, from past experience, if people want to be on the beach at or a bit before high tide....I'd say 3 PM start maybe a bit better for a start....ya know how we all get caught up in the BS'ing, and some people always show up for the food a bit late anyway.....if we start at 3, food would probably be ready about 4-4:30, say an hour to an hour and a half to eat and BS more, another hour or so for people to figure out who and where they're fishing with etc, and then get to the spots. That puts us on the beach (or wherever) about 7.......
Just a suggestion.....
Fishpart 05-30-2002, 09:00 AM I think 4 will give us plenty of time to eat and clean up and be on the beach in plenty of time.
I'll bring a couple dozen dogs and some rolls.
Tattoo 05-30-2002, 10:16 AM Did someone say BLOOBERRIES?
Hey John, Is it ok if I bring the Iron Man??
John,
I will be there unless something comes up last minute. Looking forward to meeting some of the group. I'll bring what ever is needed for the grill or a case of soda.
Dennis
JohnR 05-30-2002, 10:41 AM Hey DZ - looking forward to seeing you there :btu:
Tattoo, yes, you can bring the IronMan. Although he isn't an online member of the S-B crew, he has been the essence of so much mischeif here and within the Alliance that it would be unfair to exclude him ;) ... As long as he commits to not kickin' anyone's butt :D
Speaking of the Alliance - Crafty - where the hell are you? You coming to the show?
GBOUTDOORS 05-30-2002, 10:54 AM I hope to be there and will bring some pepsi say two 12pk.
Tattoo 05-30-2002, 11:46 AM Ok, I'll make sure Iron Mike behaves., I'll bring his wife along. :D
Um, what can I bring?
striperjerk1 05-30-2002, 12:48 PM hey i can make it, i,ll give me chance to socialize.hehe and start my vaca real good.:D :smash: if u need anything let me know. can i bring a friend?
tobias 05-30-2002, 01:09 PM Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll bring some chips and dip and some soda. If you need me to bring anything else just let me know. Thanks.
Tobias
tlapinski 05-30-2002, 01:35 PM i should be able to make it. i'll be at work 'til about noon, but should be able to swing on down after.
What are the parameters for fishing? is it all of south county or anywhere in RI for this tourney leg?
JohnR 05-30-2002, 01:54 PM Zem - yep, it's open to all of Rhody, you just need to group off with some other members...
Striperjerk - you can bring a friend if the friend is a member or you have yer friend sign up by Saturday ;) and have 10 posts by next Saturday... The only thing is that the person does need to be a member, or at least your other half...
Tattoo - you sure you want to do that to him?
Saltheart 05-30-2002, 06:26 PM I think earlier the better for the barbecue. IMO , even 2 PM is not toooo early. I think 4 is too late. Sounds like a big turnout and it takes time to meet evryone and chat and eat and get to your spots.
Oh yeah , guess what Smokey and I are bringing for food! :)
kippy 05-31-2002, 11:45 AM I'll be there at 3 to kick off the pre-fish festivities. I'll bring some juicy steaks for the grill. Looking forward to meeting everyone (especially Marty, finally)
TheSpecialist 05-31-2002, 12:11 PM I agree with Saltheart on starting early. I will be there, C-Ratt isn't going to make it this time. He is going after those little cousins.
Canalratt1 05-31-2002, 09:01 PM Hey you make me sound like a Pedophile! Naw something about my Sister-in-laws 40th birthday and my wife says I better not miss it! I think they are still mad at me for missing my god-sons first communion ... women John do ya think you could give the rod I won to Specialist? I told him not to use it! He is having some bad luck with rods lately...
TheSpecialist 05-31-2002, 09:13 PM
fishweewee 06-01-2002, 05:34 AM John R...got room for one more? :D
My cookie jar is full and the missus sez its okay for me to play in Rhody on June 8.
Wee Wee de Fish
JohnR 06-01-2002, 07:30 AM No Prob & No Prob
Bill L 06-01-2002, 09:16 AM I think I can make it...Can I play it a little by ear, or do you need a solid head count? If can, will dig some hogs for a pot of chowda.
Also, what is the time limit on the fishing (ie when is "weigh in")? And whats a blooooberry?
JohnR 06-01-2002, 09:51 AM Matoonoc, if you think you can go, go and say it, we're not holding anyone accountable ;) ... No real limit on the fishing as long as yer done by say noon time Sunday and that someone still wants to fish 'til then... There is no weigh in as it is all C&R (now, if I got a 50, then I wouldn't be entering it into to the C&R :D ) - just someone from the board needs to witness the fish...
There is no real limit to how many can go just as long as we have some sort of head count...
Bill L 06-01-2002, 12:38 PM I will plan on going then. Don't know if I can fish all night anymore, the ole stamina thing isn't what it used to be, but I think I can make it with a little nap :laughs:
joeangler 06-01-2002, 12:39 PM hey ill be there just let me know what youll need ill bring see ya there:D :D :D :D
TheSpecialist 06-01-2002, 12:41 PM John any chance on setting up some teams ahead of time. I mean if we get an accurate count, and you start by putting regulars together, then adding in non RI personnel. Or maybe drawing names out of a hat.
JohnR 06-03-2002, 09:17 AM Matoonoc, I don't think I'll be fishing all night either, I also don't think my knee is going to allow major Rock Hoppin'... See you there.
Joe if you want to bring some paper plates & plastic ware - that would be cool...
Specialist - good idea, I think I'll start a thread for "teams". Nothing super concrete but a chance for similar style angking to take place. Probably don't want to mixup wetsuits with chunking :laughs:
joeangler 06-03-2002, 01:46 PM ill get the paperware in stuff ok;) ;)
TheSpecialist 06-03-2002, 02:22 PM Wetsuit= :smash:

JohnR 06-04-2002, 07:03 AM Good Red - you have to defend yer title you know ;) - hey, bring the rod & reel down so I can check her out :D
chris L 06-04-2002, 10:04 AM Mikul
If we hook up together we dont have to do any long walks . Im flexible , we can fish anywhere close to the shop or our vehicles . itll be a fun time no matter !

mar t 06-05-2002, 11:54 AM if the cookouts at 3 pm then i take it we should be there a little before that and i'll bring some food don't know what (any ideas )but it will most likely burn well on a grill i'm new to you guys so i'm not sure how or with whom i'll be fishing with so any help there would be nice well if you can think of anything else let me know please

STEVE IN MASS 06-05-2002, 03:52 PM Just a bump......(John knows why....;))
Tattoo 06-05-2002, 04:05 PM WolfMan,
I'm in for the scup. 'll talk to the Habs guy, but last time I saw him he was sitting by the phone.;)
Slipknot 06-05-2002, 04:32 PM Sorry I can't make it this time guys, have fun. I gotta make it thru the summer ;) and pace myself.
mar t 06-05-2002, 04:53 PM do we know who's with who and how were each going to fish and do we have to fish the way were grouped???????????????????
mar t
marty:confused:
GBOUTDOORS 06-05-2002, 05:47 PM Had some work come up today that may need to be taken care of Sat pm so I may be out this time. Will try to finish early but it does not look good. Need to get it done before 6-14-02:D
Saltheart 06-05-2002, 08:33 PM mar t , You can fish any way you want. How you want to fish may determine who you will be team up with and where you fish. the teams are so you have people to go with. There is no team prize or team competition other than a friendly rivalry maybe.
TheSpecialist 06-05-2002, 08:52 PM GB you need an extra pair of hands? You gotta make it, lots of food, and fun.
JohnR 06-06-2002, 07:39 AM OK - stuff for Saturday =
Me - batch of 2doz Nathan's dogs & burgers + Da Bread
Scotch - 30-40 lbs of steamers and the pot/gas cooker (sure you can do that Scotch?)
S.i.M. - shrimp
Fishpart - 2 doz dogs & rolls
DZ - case of soda
tobias - chips & soda
Saltheart & Smokey - that Stawberry thing
Kippy - steaks
joeangler - paperware stuff
Red - potatoesalad
mar t - some food for the grille
Thanks for pitchin' in. About the only thing I think needed would be cheese & toppings for the regular grille fair. Any other thoughts?
Bill L 06-06-2002, 08:52 AM I'll bring a pot of clam chowder. What was the final word on the kick off time? (with the tides, I'll be digging the clams at about 11 am and will need to cook it up)
Bill
STEVE IN MASS 06-06-2002, 08:53 AM Did anybody do an actual head count yet?
Just to know how much to bring. I also have an abundance of radishes from the garden, so I'll bring some along, and also some lettuce from the garden for the burgers. Wish I could say garden tomatoes as well, but the plants are only about a foot tall.....;)
John - I got two "possibles" to add to the count from what we discussed yeaterday, so far.
Bill L 06-06-2002, 08:57 AM Ooops, saw cookout time as 3:00 pm in the teams thread
Nevermind
Saltheart 06-06-2002, 10:04 AM I'm figuring 2 dozen people. I think we'll have that many. In addition to the people listed , we want to feed Don and charlie. probably see Habs , his sone and Fisheye maybe. , Is Specialist coming? Anyway , I think planning on 2 dozen people is wise. We can always bring home leftovers
DRUMCORPFAN 06-06-2002, 02:31 PM I joined today 6-6-02 I would like to go sat. Just want to fish with people who love it as much as I do. I can bring some polish sausage to grill.;)
Saltheart 06-06-2002, 02:34 PM Welcome Drumcorpfan. We'll be glad to have you join us. See you at Weekapaug sat.
STEVE IN MASS 06-06-2002, 02:46 PM DCF....hey. how ya doing! Good to "see" ya....and hope to see ya Saturday!
wahlie 06-06-2002, 03:00 PM Just signed onto the forum/website not to long ago. I know that the tourney is starting this weekend but was wondering if it's too late to sign up.
respect,
Chris
tlapinski 06-06-2002, 03:07 PM millhouse!!!!
wahlie 06-06-2002, 03:09 PM I can bring some homemade venison sausage!!!
tlapinski 06-06-2002, 03:23 PM
JohnR 06-06-2002, 03:27 PM Wahlie & DCF - Welcome to S-B...
Haaawwww! Venison! Seeing that our normal "Provider of Dead Dear" is not making it this weekend (something about family obligatons) - sure :btu: , sounds good!
Just so everyone knows, the B-B-Q & the fishing is open to everyone that's signed up on these boards (plus significant other). If you get to C&R a sweet fish and you have less than the one week signup or less than 10 posts minimum of the tourney rules, it wouldn't count unless you were able to pursuade the other tourney participants :p to ease the rules a little...
wahlie 06-06-2002, 03:45 PM John,
thanks for the greeting... As far as fishing and such. I'll be with Toby... I'm not concerned about prizes and such as much as I am with meeting the guys of the board. I'll bring the sausage and possibly some steaks.. I've gotta see what I've got in the old freezer.
-Chris:laughs:
chris L 06-06-2002, 04:36 PM WOW ! with all this food there might even be enough for me to burn when I get there around 9pm .
mar t 06-06-2002, 06:00 PM does anyone know if you can drive all the way out to napatree pt. is there a street or maybe an off road permit that i could get

Saltheart 06-06-2002, 06:36 PM Nope , you have to take the long walk.
mar t 06-06-2002, 06:59 PM is the walk worth it because it sure looks like it would be
mar t
marty
Scotch Bonnet 06-06-2002, 09:14 PM Put in the order for 40 lbs of steamers tonight. The real question is can we eat 40lbs clams?:hihi: Looking forward to meeting you all.
wont be going but hope you all have a great time and catch lotsa fishies!
bloocrab 06-07-2002, 06:59 AM ...95% chance of making it
..if not in time for the B-B-Q....then definately in time for the Fish-E-Q :D
...I'll bring my digi-too...it may be helpful to try and have each team with at least one digi-fied member....;)
JohnR 06-07-2002, 07:52 AM MarT - no sense going out to Naps unless:
A.) You & your wife both have Korkers
B.) You both are happy climbing rocks
C.) You don't mind wearing 1220% DEET :D
Seriously, it's about a mile 1/4 on Beach sand to a rocky haven at the end that is not conducive to chunking. Although some do well chunking along the beach itself. The legal parking area is still a little walk from the beach.
There are other good spots to chunk from as well that are easier to get to.
Scotch - I don't know if we can eat 40#s
Sorry you can't make it Jenn
Scotch Bonnet 06-07-2002, 05:15 PM John, just put the clams in the cooler. I think I could eat a 10 lb bag!!! I'll control myself til tomorrow afternoon.
Scotch Bonnet 06-07-2002, 07:41 PM If anyone has a LARGE pot to boil steamers - please bring it. Pulled mine out of the garage and it was getting rusty on the inside. I will bring my 2 pots I use in the kitchen but would prefer a large one.
mar t 06-08-2002, 06:26 AM i have a big pot but no lid
joeangler 06-08-2002, 08:22 AM do we have a official time that everything kicks off:cheers:
JohnR 06-08-2002, 08:37 AM Hey Joe - 3pm @ Weekapaug B&T, Westerly (but you know where that is)
STEVE IN MASS 06-08-2002, 09:25 AM Scotch - I'll throw my large pot in the car in case you need it....and it HAS a lid.....;)
Canalratt1 06-08-2002, 01:54 PM Damn all that food and I can't go! GS eat some for me!
