Thumbs up Well, REAL soon, June 8th is the 1st Rhody Leg of the Second Annual Striped-Bass.com

Well REAL soon, Saturday June 8th, is the 1st Rhody Leg of the Second Annual Striped-Bass.com C&R Tourney to be held at Weekapaug B&T in Westerly Rhode Island. Don & Charlie from Weekapaug have offered up both grilles and a place to meet for the pre-fishing festivities again this year (Thanks guys!!!). They've even offered to keep the shop open for us overnight as a place to hook back up, warm up on some coffee or restock eels & plugs. Don also tells me he'll have plenty of eels available for us for that weekend - (yeh you need to buy them )

Some of the details are here on the last thread but I'll sum up a few key points:

Tourney is open to all members of this message board that can make it (we need to know ahead of time who can go) that have a minimum of ten posts (not 1,2,3,4... :nono: ) and registered one week before - so this Saturday (but I've been known to be flexible). We'll meet & grille then get into various groups of similar fishing styles and head out to the shoreline of Little Rhody .

The goal of this tourney is to meet up & fish with those we converse with & otherwise harrass online. The "Tourney" part is that at the end of all 4 legs, 2 in Mass & 2 in RI, the top 3 anglers with the largest Catch & Release Stripers over 36 inches in length from the tourney will be awarded prizes. Last year we had the top prize of a custom 1088 Rod and 6500 Abu reel donated by Mike T @ capecodtackle.com that went to Redcrbbr and C-Ratt won a custom 10' Pac Bay spinner from Weekapaug B&T. Prizes are still being sorted out for this year but I've already gotten word of plugs, tackle, & a couple rods for this year as well ...

All fish are to be at least 36" inches nose to end of tail, measured by another board member & released alive. This way someone witnesses and signs off on it. You do not need to attend every leg but the more you go to, the better yer odds (speaking of odds, I'm fishin' with BM on the Cape Leg )... People that sign up after this leg can still participate in the later Legs too...

Oh yeh, almost forgot, this is a FREE TOURNEY, no fees or donations needed to participate, the whole idea is to meet up and have a good time. We had a blast last year with about 30 people showing even though an offshore hurricane had 6-8 footers breaking on the beach...

The only request is that everyone figures out what they can bring for food to the Kickoff Cookout on Saturday afternoon...

Any Questions?

Looking forward to meeting a lot of the new faces and seeing the "Old Timers" again

Thanks,

John Redmond

Thumbs up Tourney

I will be there June 8th. What time for the cook-out. I will bring 30-40 lbs of steamers and the pot/gas cooker. Looks like high tide will be around 7:00pm at Newport so 7:40 for Watch Hill. Breachways will start dumping around 10:30

Well, one of the things to hammer out is the cookout time. With High @ 7:40 & sunset @ 8:15, some are going to want to be on the beach then... Say 4pm start ?

Steve - cool....

John, from past experience, if people want to be on the beach at or a bit before high tide....I'd say 3 PM start maybe a bit better for a start....ya know how we all get caught up in the BS'ing, and some people always show up for the food a bit late anyway.....if we start at 3, food would probably be ready about 4-4:30, say an hour to an hour and a half to eat and BS more, another hour or so for people to figure out who and where they're fishing with etc, and then get to the spots. That puts us on the beach (or wherever) about 7.......

Just a suggestion.....

I think 4 will give us plenty of time to eat and clean up and be on the beach in plenty of time.

I'll bring a couple dozen dogs and some rolls.

John,
I will be there unless something comes up last minute. Looking forward to meeting some of the group. I'll bring what ever is needed for the grill or a case of soda.

Hey DZ - looking forward to seeing you there

Tattoo, yes, you can bring the IronMan. Although he isn't an online member of the S-B crew, he has been the essence of so much mischeif here and within the Alliance that it would be unfair to exclude him ... As long as he commits to not kickin' anyone's butt

Speaking of the Alliance - Crafty - where the hell are you? You coming to the show?

Zem - yep, it's open to all of Rhody, you just need to group off with some other members...

Striperjerk - you can bring a friend if the friend is a member or you have yer friend sign up by Saturday and have 10 posts by next Saturday... The only thing is that the person does need to be a member, or at least your other half...

Tattoo - you sure you want to do that to him?

I think earlier the better for the barbecue. IMO , even 2 PM is not toooo early. I think 4 is too late. Sounds like a big turnout and it takes time to meet evryone and chat and eat and get to your spots.

Oh yeah , guess what Smokey and I are bringing for food!

I agree with Saltheart on starting early. I will be there, C-Ratt isn't going to make it this time. He is going after those little cousins.

I think I can make it...Can I play it a little by ear, or do you need a solid head count? If can, will dig some hogs for a pot of chowda.
Also, what is the time limit on the fishing (ie when is "weigh in")? And whats a blooooberry?

Matoonoc, if you think you can go, go and say it, we're not holding anyone accountable ... No real limit on the fishing as long as yer done by say noon time Sunday and that someone still wants to fish 'til then... There is no weigh in as it is all C&R (now, if I got a 50, then I wouldn't be entering it into to the C&R ) - just someone from the board needs to witness the fish...

There is no real limit to how many can go just as long as we have some sort of head count...

John any chance on setting up some teams ahead of time. I mean if we get an accurate count, and you start by putting regulars together, then adding in non RI personnel. Or maybe drawing names out of a hat.
