I'm pretty good with this kind of stuff. Sometimes you just miss. Knowing better, it happened to me again just the other day.
Be as careful as you might, it can happen to you too.
Just keep it in mind?

i'm also good with this stuff and routinely break down all my vs's and can't see this happening .......happened to ya twice??

I always put the gear in then screw the side plate on. Never had a problem. Don't need a block of wood though to remove the main gear. (My reels don't leak on the handle seal either)

AA, I'm pretty sure this post was a tip to help anyone who has locked their reel to get out of it w/o sending it in. I know the guy and Reverse Psychology isn't his style.

Thanks for the tip, I just made this mistake this morning and spent 3 hrs trying to figure out what to do to correct the problem. I did not want to admit to my wife that I need to spend a few hundred bucks to correct it.
I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know how I make out..

maybe it's just me...just be careful and it's a breeze.....maybe some folks should send 'em in for service. dave iffin' your truly tryin' to be helpful :kewl:.

no vs sharpie- just mechanicly inclined ;)...your post just seemed to me to be a reverse bash. one minute trashing vs' and the next telling folks how to deal what you term a common problem..:hs: a lot of guys i know service their own and never dealt with this- me included. you sure to act like a person with an agenda. and that last post- reminds me of a little boy having a hissy fit. :wiggle:

Mac I don't think thats the problem. I think theres a bit of a double standard going on.
I've read other threads where members with seniority talk up a particular product and/or trash another and it doesn't even raise an eyebrow. Shimano over Daiwa,Shimano over VS, Convench over spinning etc. Other guys have reels or boats as an avitar and its seen as pride and or loyalty. When he does it he's a snake oil salesman.
David is a new member who's happens to be excited over a new product that also happens to be very pricey. Here lies the the issue.
Go back and read his posts from the very beginning. Some may be rough around the edges but most are genuine, helpful and discussion oriented.
Its a discussion board. He's not trying to sell anything. Just psyched on a reel that works for the way he fishes. Too bad because hes a great guy with a lot to offer and a hard core surf guy for sure.
