How did u do it..how long did it take.. well i started out in Dec. so a little over 3 months. for the first 2 i really didn't see much of a difference and was starting to get frustrated then i switched up my workout routine and i started losing poundage fast. basically light weight, high reps, cardio after every workout(-300calories) and i just added an abb routine. i also started eating smaller portions of clean calories. Surfhound from the other site was very helpful with my routine. sounds like you're doing pretty well yourself NIB. keep it up. you;ll look in the mirror one and day and say Holy %$%$%$%$!! where did I go? great feeling... Thats great I like to mix my workouts up.One day heavy short reops and negative's an one day light with more reps.I think the muscles like the mix up from time to time.I'm still a old skool guy at the gym.I always enjoyed getting stronger and seeing the results on the bar.Amazingly I can still move a pretty good amount of weight.I always did push ups so maybe thats why.The weight does not come off as fast as u build muscle mass but there's more to it than that.. I'm down 3 belt loops that tells me I'm just transfering weight to other area's that will help me to loose more as I go along.I go thru the gym pretty fast.My routine only takes 45 mins then I top it off on the treadmill and I ride the bike on off days. March 22 my girlfriend and I are quiting smoking.. Sounds like a mid life thing don't it.I'm just trying to make 47 my midlife.. bart 03-08-2008, 04:11 PM thats awesome NIB. changing up definitely works. shocks your muscles pretty good. next week i'll be changing my routine back to strength training. i'll do a push/pull system, all pyramid sets. you probably already know this but for those that don't, pyramid sets are basically when you start out at 10 reps, then go down to 8 reps but add weight and so on until you get to 4 reps. then you go back to 10 reps and start with the original weight. really gets you ripped. one day ill do chest and triceps, the next day biceps, abs, and legs. then i'll rest one day. but ill still keep up with the cardio. good luck quitting smoking man, i know how tough that can be. hope to see you up this way some time this season... johnny ducketts 03-08-2008, 05:14 PM i think we need to update the % lost The Dad Fisherman 03-09-2008, 11:26 AM Latest Updates are in place in Red.....Looks like the pace is slowing down time to re-focus, myself included. 2 months left....time to "git 'er done" also, still waiting for entry fees.....some fresh pluggage might up the motivational limit. Diets rarely work unless they're lasting lifestyle change...what elements of your lifestyle haven't changed? -spence Adam_777 03-21-2008, 06:03 PM For me getting into the 180's is becoming a struggle and may take me longer than expected. All I eat is fish, vegetables, yogurt and some plain popcorn for snacks.Oh and black coffee by the pot.Thats been my diet all year.I may need to make adjustments.I have been pushing harder and changing up workouts and found I am alot more hungry than I was doing my old workout routine.I think muscles need nutrients to heal that I'm not providing and that's where my hunger is coming from.I may have to look for some vitamin supplements.I figured the yogurt and carrots everyday were plenty of the good stuff.Who knows ? spence 03-21-2008, 06:39 PM Adam, When are you eating and how much? You want to ensure the diet is balanced, but not loaded. How the food is distributed over the day is very important... -spence Clogston29 03-21-2008, 07:50 PM adam, a few pointers that might help you break through the plateau 1. ditch the popcorn, it'll just make you hungry and is the nutritional equivalent of cardboard with calories 2. add more protein (chicken, fish, lean beaf) and some good fat (olive oil, nuts, etc.) and spread it out over 3 meals and three snacks every day. eat every 2-3 hours, and make sure you get some protein and fat each time. don't eat more, just spread it out more 3. vitamins won't help with hunger and recovery (although a good mutivitamin is always a good thing). go with a low carb protein shake (whey powder and water) if you feel like you need something right after the gym, i'd take it within 30 minutes of the end of your workout. 4. swap out some of the coffee for water and green tea. more than 4 cups of coffee a day will actually hurt your workouts. shoot for at least 3-4 liters of water per day 5. as far as workouts, if your looking to switch it up, try high intensity interval training (HIIT). Basically a five minute warmup, and then a series of 6 intervals of running or biking as hard as you can for a minute and walking for a minute, then cooling down for 5 minutes. really kicks up your metabolism more than any other cardio (something about anabolic and aerobic systems being engaged). I switched to it when i hit a plateau a few weeks ago and have dropped 10 pounds since. just a few things that work for me. Adam_777 03-21-2008, 07:59 PM Breakfast is a large DD black coffee.Lunch consists of small bag of those small baby carrots, same size bag of plain celery,a no-fat yogurt and some tuna. The tuna is in a tin container called something melodies I think.2 servings per can.Coffee after lunch black.Coffee again @4pm and salad for dinner around 6ish.Same menu day in day out.I will eat the same lunch for years at a time before I change whats on the menu.I run everyday on the eliptical.Hard run almost sprinting for 15 mins. Then alternate days to abs and chest/shoulders.All excersize are high reps no weights.I do pushups and situps well into muscle failure.Thats my routine.Anyone on this board can try it.It has worked great up to this point.I'm still dropping weight just alot slower since the bulk was burnt off. Adam_777 03-21-2008, 08:08 PM Clogston Thanks for the info.I need to make a new shopping list for the wife.Trying some new snacks and will try and ween off some of the coffee. spence 03-21-2008, 08:14 PM If you do anything please do this... Start every day, as early as you get up with a glass of soy or whey protien. I drink 8 ounces of a fresh soy fruit smoothie http://www.odwalla.com/product1.asp?p=beverages&s=nutrient&id=19 that's expensive but good. There are many less expensive options... But before you do anything else, get in the habbit of some calories first thing in the morning will ya? Secondly, if you really eat like this you need a lot more protien and a lot more real food in your diet. If you're exercising regularly there's nothing wrong with some fat and carbs spaced throughout the day as indicated above. Trust me, you can eat a lot and still loose weight when you're exercising as long as you're eating the right stuff... -spence johnny ducketts 03-22-2008, 08:29 AM hey guys, I'm back... just walked in the door from a 10 day all inclusive vacay in jamaica.. needless to say the red stripes and various cocktails took their toll.. On a side note I fell way off my strict diet today.I found myself at a buffet inside foxwoods and hungry.Uuuuughhhhh.Shrimp,cod,clams,mussels,rice,l ittle bit of chinese food.Stuffed......... Clogston29 03-24-2008, 08:22 AM tough to beat eggs for breakfast also. or yogurt (just make sure its low sugar, and not fruit on the bottom). just about anything that you eat for breakfast will help though. that's why special K and other such cereals always make those claims that people lose weight by eating their cereal for breakfast, they compare their results against people who don't eat breakfast. there are also plenty of studies that show that eating 2 eggs for breakfast results in more weight loss than eating cereal. i think if you add breakfast, throw in a few healthy small snacks and lots of water during the day and add some lean protein to your salad at night - you'll feel much better and less hungry and find that you'll actually lose more weight by eating more food zacs 03-24-2008, 08:43 AM how about an update, TDF....:cputin: tattoobob 03-24-2008, 04:06 PM Nothing beats a morning smoothie :sleeps: spence 03-24-2008, 05:09 PM You just don't know how to make 'em :cheers2: -spence The Dad Fisherman 03-25-2008, 09:39 AM there are also plenty of studies that show that eating 2 eggs for breakfast results in more weight loss than eating cereal. Adam_777 04-09-2008, 07:22 PM Hows it going for everyone lately ? spence 04-09-2008, 08:44 PM Interesting book I'm reading right now titles "In Defense of Food" which is sort of an anti-nutritional book. Basically it says that everything you've been tought from the food pyramid was based on little science and mostly assumption. It prescribes a very simple approach to a regular diet. Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. -spence Clogston29 04-10-2008, 04:45 AM that sounds right. its amazing how much of our nutritional "science" is based on pretty loose assumptions that were never challenged. cholesterol, saturated fat, carbs, etc. If you stick to whole foods 90-95% of the time, you should be good. we as americans just eat too much, so cutting back on total volume of food consumed is important. its tough to do though, because overeating is so engrained in our society. how often are bagels brought into the office (over 1000 calories with cream cheese - thats about 1/2 of what the average guy should be eating in a day, with very little nutritional value), or its someone's birthday and there's cake and you feel like a jerk turning it down, or everyone is ordering subs or pizza and you feel weird getting a salad, etc. Duke41 04-10-2008, 06:44 AM Gave up trying to do it my way and joined weight watchers. Lost 3 pounds this week. Katie 04-10-2008, 06:47 AM Been sick past week. Might of gained a lb or 2 from all the gatorade. The Dad Fisherman 04-10-2008, 07:40 AM I always wanted to write a weight loss book....it would have 2 pages. Page 1 "Eat Less" Page 2 "Excercise" The End Weight Watchers is actually a good program because it isn't some weird fad diet. It teaches you Portioning. We always biggie size everything, they teach you exactly what size a portion of food should be. Quite a few years ago I did it with my wife and lost 50 lbs, that was when I was tipping the scales at a whopping 302......unfortunately I went back to biggie sizing everything again and put some of it back on.....but so far I've lost over 30 this time around and hopefully it will stay off. Only time will tell Duke41 04-10-2008, 09:36 AM cool Adam_777 04-10-2008, 02:12 PM I'll never keep it all off.Just hoping most of it. zacs 04-11-2008, 01:59 PM look out Adam. Great job everyone! I am down around 20 depending on when I weigh myself, but I am being told I look better bart 04-27-2008, 06:14 PM there is a misconception about eating less that i see in this thread. you need to eat more often, but smaller portions. eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day and your metabolism will speed up. no dairy, it retains too much water. cut back on carbs, in fact none after 6. if you do eat pasta, eat whole wheat. rice and steamed vegetables are your friends. a nice salad with italian tuna and hot peppers is my favorite. sticking to a diet is not an easy task, but if you want to lose weight you need to do it, along with hitting the gym. cardio and diet are the two main ingredients to losing weight, but make sure you get enough protein so that you're not burning lean muscle instead of fat... anyways, i started in Dec. I'm down to 220 from close to 270. still need to firm up a bit but otherwise, i'm feeling pretty good. :) bart 04-27-2008, 06:16 PM nice job TDF :kewl: Squid kids Dad 04-27-2008, 06:42 PM Excellent job..I envy you johnny ducketts 04-28-2008, 01:03 PM I think I'm going to end up weighing in as my last post. 204 for the contest, for a total of 14 lbs, but more importantly 46 lbs off since last April..
