Crafty Angler 12-13-2008, 11:02 AMJack Bruce was always a favorite, classically trained with a jazz background - a good Letterman clip of Jack with some tasty bass riffs with Ginger Baker on drums:

A younger Jack Bruce and Clapton - Cream in their prime, '68 - dude, that was 40 years ago....

Thanks for the links. I haven't yet heard those cds yet, but I wil look for them. I just have some of the older stuff: jaco's solo cds, some weather report stuff, a metheny cd, and Joni Mitchells herjeira too. The guy could really write well, his soloing is fantastic, but damn the guy could really pen a song. I also liked the marcus article, thanks for that. That guy is also monster on bass. I'm pretty sure I have a recording of his with him doing teen town and it was sick. I think I have it on cassette though :hee:, I really should pay a visit to FYE...
