what is considered light tackle? I use an 8ft rod rated 10-25lb test with soft baits being my lure of choice. What is the definition of light tackle?? what do you guys use???

Not to be a wise-ass but....it would depend on what you are targeting.

that being said I wouldn't consider the setup above light tackle for Stripers....maybe for tuna, but not stripers.

I use a 7 ft. st croix rated at 4-8 lb test 5/8 oz lure w/ a penn captiva....and I've taken fish to 12 lbs on it...now if i hooked up to a 40 lb striper...that would be light tackle....but not for the spring schoolies I target with it

Watched a young guy whip a fish close to 40 lbs with an 8 wt fly rod and an original Loop reel (no drag but your palm) at Lobsterville one night. I consider that light.
