I just finished reading "Myths, Illusions, & Peace - Finding a new direction for America in the Middle East" by Dennis Ross and David Makovsky.

Here's my one sentence review: Two policy wonks who seem to actually understand the situations in Iran and Palestine take both neoconservatives and more liberal "realists" to task for their misguided policies that are screwing up our long-term national security.

I learned a lot reading this book.

Highly recommended.

Didn't Dennis Ross help formulate those "misguided policies"? I'll have to pick it up after I read Ridge's book.

He worked in both the Bush 41 and Clinton administrations I believe. That doesn't mean people actually listened to him though :hee:

Something in the book I found very interesting is the contrast of their pro-Israeli position compared to that of like Michael Schuer (author of Imperial Hubris and bin Laden expert) who believe Israel is a big liability.
