View Full Version : It's none of your business
ecduzitgood 07-14-2010, 02:41 AM Why has society embraced this expression? I think if more people made it their business we would all be better off.(bet you're thinking no way) Take for example my pointing out to someone they were parked illegally, their response was "it's none of your business", I told someone else about what transpired and their response was "it really is none of your business". Don't attitudes like this lie at the heart of whats wrong with society? Honestly ask your self if your first thought when reading my exmple was indeed the same, did you think if I am not a police officer then it is none of my business? When and why have many of us begain to think this way? Do you think we really are better off with this type of thinking?
For those who fish the Canal doesn't it anger you to see boats fishing where there not suppossed to be fishing? or do you just ignore them because it's none of your business?
UserRemoved1 07-14-2010, 04:17 AM poachers suck
so do tax cheats....
But it's none of your business.....
The Dad Fisherman 07-14-2010, 05:15 AM Its embraced because really it is nobody else's business....
Isn't that one of the main problems in society...people sticking there nose in everybody else's business.
If people spent more time taking care of themselves instead of worrying about what everybody else is doing we'd be better off
Raven 07-14-2010, 06:44 AM I MAKE my business
depends on "what" it is....
and Hell or high water ain't stopping me....
if it's the right principle .....:uhuh:
otherwise you have to Live with that inaction forever.
JohnnyD 07-14-2010, 09:09 AM I agree with you ecduzitgood. Back in the day of smaller towns (and probably still today), everyone knew everyone else's business. There was accountability - today, there is none.
Obvious drug deals going on down the street - is that none of your business?
A neighbor that you overhear beating his son merciless every night - is that none of your business?
People driving down the breakdown lane while you legally sit in massive amounts of traffic - is that none of your business?
The family down the shoreline that keeps every 20" fish they bring in - is that none of your business?
I'd bet that many of the people here that think it was none of your business, would call the EPs on people keeping short fish. Complacency, laziness, a lack of consideration and an expectation for entitlement are turning this country into a bunch of litigious, fat-assed whimps.
Btw, it pisses me off when idiots are fishing within the canal. I see some charter guys doing it all the time on the East end, probably because they feel *entitled* to. They'll pull right in front of you and fish. I yell out once for them to move on and then I continue casting my jig just as I was before they pulled in front of me. If they're entitled to illegally fish within the canal, I'm entitled to continue casting in the area I'd been standing in for 4 hours.
BigFish 07-14-2010, 09:18 AM I believe people should mind their own damn business! They should pay more attention to their own crap and this planet would be alot better off!!!:fury:
The Dad Fisherman 07-14-2010, 10:08 AM I agree with you ecduzitgood. Back in the day of smaller towns (and probably still today), everyone knew everyone else's business. There was accountability - today, there is none.
I grew up in the city, not a small town....and we still grew up w/ personal accountability...had nothing to do with everybody knowing our business....it had to do with my Family taking care of what they needed to take care of and worrying about what everybody else was doing. It had more to do w/ personal values than butting in.
Obvious drug deals going on down the street - is that none of your business?
That is your business...its your neighborhood.
A neighbor that you overhear beating his son merciless every night - is that none of your business?
Again...That is your business...its your neighborhood....why don't you drive to a distant neighborhood and get involved w/ this.
People driving down the breakdown lane while you legally sit in massive amounts of traffic - is that none of your business?....None of your business....your just pissed because he's getting away with it and it conflicts with your personal values. Hopefully he gets his ticket down the road
The family down the shoreline that keeps every 20" fish they bring in - is that none of your business?
That is your business because you partake in the fishery and it does impact you down the road
People didn't do the right thing way back when because everybody was nosing around in their business....it was because people were brought up w/ a different set of values back then.
FishermanTim 07-14-2010, 10:56 AM When you interfere with someone else's personal business, affairs or actions that have absolutely NOTHING to do with you and yours, that it truly is NO OF YOUR BUSINESS.
But, if there was a car accident where there is personal injury and damage to property you could make it your business to help where needed.
If you see someone breaking into a neighbors house, car or other property, do you "not get involoved" or do you do something?
To put all instances of personal interjection in the "None of your business" category is also part of the problem. It leans towards the "if I don't see it, it didn't happen" and "not in my back yard" and the "I don't care because it's not my problem" categories.
Due to the increase of frivilous lawsuits, arrogant self-rioghteousness and complete lack of respect of ALL laws we are faced with dilemmas on a daily basis. We see so many people that ignore and usurp the laws that are meant to govern society that those of us that adhere to these same laws get angry and outraged at the lack of any real consequences for these "lawbreakers".
Here's something to ponder: If you see ANY kind of infraction, or crime, and it makes you mad, it usually because you are doing things the right way and you're mad because the offender appears to be "getting away with it".
As long as we can keep our wits and our values intact, we will always be the better person.

I can agree with this. Poor example on my part.
However, that person blasting down the brake down lane to avoid the traffic is certainly my business. It's my business when they hit debris on the side of the road, pop a tire and lose control of their vehicle. It's also my business the next time I'm broken down, while a precedence has been set for people to go down the break down lane to avoid traffic and I have to fear being rear-ended.

Extremely well put, I couldn't agree more.
What people do in there own home, is no business to anyone outside of that home. I'll be the first one to complain about the government intruding on our personal lives. As soon as you leave your home and enter the general population, every person's activity affects someone else - be it in a good way, or bad.
On the handicapped parking spot issue, I've had my fair share of annoyance going into Home Depot, Target or any of the big stores and seeing the 10 HP Only spots that are always empty. On the other hand, I'd never think to park there or drop someone off and idle there (as people always do).
I wonder how angry some of you "it's none of your business" people would be if your parent, grandparent or child were on crutches and had a handicapped placard and slipped and fell on an icy parking lot because some POS felt entitled to park in the HP stop to avoid walking through the slush.
When I worked as an EMT, it would happen a couple times a year.
spence 07-14-2010, 04:51 PM She was probably a Tea Party member. They hate it when the government tells them where they can and can't park.

Raven 07-14-2010, 04:55 PM no........
must be that Obama menstruation
Slipknot 07-14-2010, 09:44 PM I think it is great that some stand up for the potential handicapped person that may need to use that parking spot that is reserved for just such a case. However, to bring it to ones attention that is not entitled to park there even for a moment, you may get a better response by doing it a little more tactfully, for instance try informing them nicely that they may not know it but they are in a handicapped spot that is reserved for only handicapped and as long as you are parked in it, it leaves it unavailable in the chance one may need it.
I have witnessed a-holes park in front of ramps up to the sidewalks at intersections and a guy in a wheelchair trying fruitlessly to get up on the sidewalk:wall: and not be able to because of some ignorant a-hole that was blocking it with his/her parked car. It IS all of our business and that crap needs to stop.
So try to educate the uneducated as best you can and try not to get in an arguement over it.
can't we all get along
Backbeach Jake 07-15-2010, 05:18 AM can't we all get along
Sadly, no
justplugit 07-15-2010, 01:44 PM In short we have raised a generation that does not know what
manners or common courtesy are.
In addition they have no idea what hard work and sacrifice is.
Buncha self centered ninnies, imo.

They were raised by parents that were more concerned with being "friends" with their kids than parents, thus the kids show almost NO respect for adults in general. How many have heard a kid yell, swear or even hit their parents because they didn't want to hear what the parent said?
I have repeatedly told ALL of my neices and nephews that if I hear of them talking back, disrespecting or hitting a parent/family adult, they will have to answer to me! (I'm 6'1" and 280 lbs.)
They got the message real fast.
