View Full Version : Mass. License Plate Grump!!!
BigFish 10-15-2010, 11:33 AM I have no problem with Mass. License plates with special designations like "Cape & Islands" and "Teachers" and things like that......but yesterday I saw one that should have no place on a Mass. License plate!!! "Choose Life"......with a picture of a woman holding a child!!! I don't think Mass. License plates are a place for political issues such as this to be represented???!!!! I do not feel is appropriate any more than I would want to see a Mass. Plate representing that "Abortion Is The Answer"????!!! Anyone else see these plates????
The Dad Fisherman 10-15-2010, 11:57 AM Fair Warning.....this will probably end up getting moved to the Pit of Despair
PRBuzz 10-15-2010, 12:17 PM Fair Warning.....this will probably end up getting moved to the Pit of Despair
Can I get a license plate: "Pit of Despair"?
The Dad Fisherman 10-15-2010, 12:41 PM :hihi:
UserRemoved1 10-15-2010, 12:41 PM Anyone want to buy a lure?
Figured I'd get an advertisement in before it disappeared
:hee:

See? That is exactly my point! This thread could go bad because of the controversial nature of the topic........do you think it should be represented on State license plates??
JohnnyD 10-15-2010, 01:01 PM I agree with you Larry. In my opinion, I'd never put my political or social views on my car - only makes you a target for people who disagree with you. I believe that the only opinions that have been changed by political or religious bumper sticker are those of an officer when deciding on whether to give you a warning or a ticket (and usually motivating them towards the ticket).

I agree with you on this one. But Mass isn't the only state that issues them---only the most surprising one.
But, putting on my lawyer hat for a second, an argument can be made that "Choose Life" is different from "Ban Abortion". You could argue that one can respect the right to choose, yet still advocate for what one would consider to be the correct choice.
BigFish 10-15-2010, 01:21 PM Really??? I have only seen the one plate I saw yesterday???? Who authorizes these plates???
fishbones 10-15-2010, 01:28 PM I'm gonna make a controversial license plate that reads "Boat Fish Don't Count".
The Dad Fisherman 10-15-2010, 01:35 PM do you think it should be represented on State license plates??
Nope

How about a line of plates that show "Women's Right to Choose"
UserRemoved1 10-15-2010, 01:54 PM Whenever I see the Right Whale plate and it's a 500 lb chick driving I laugh and feel bad for the whales.
tysdad115 10-15-2010, 01:54 PM I agree, these plates should not be made. I am for the red sox, bruins and other various plates where the sale/licensing of plate supports the respective charities of the organizations. I equate the plate to some one coming knocking on my door trying to tell me "god loves me"- not to pick on any particular religion, but if I want to read your literature I'll stop by. The gorilla marketing technique does not work with me. Mt two Rottweilers assure no-one comes a knocking on my door any more. If that license plate is ok to have can I get a "Kill the seals" plate because I dont like the amount seals infringing on the fishing?? Two completely seperate issues but each is a matter of opinion!
Raven 10-15-2010, 03:00 PM I want an S-B license PLATE
>>>>>NOW <<<<<<
drop what your doing and get on it...
i mean FAST.... faster than grizzly hair on Sarah PALIN'S......
no scrap that.......
Faster than EEL slime on Mike P's antennae :grins:
The Dad Fisherman 10-15-2010, 03:37 PM Now that I read up on it, The license plate really isn't meant to be a political statement......people buy them to sponsor the charity that is tied to the plate. Everyone of those plates is tied to a charity, thats all its for.
It doesn't say Pro-Choice or Pro-Life.....just the name of the charity that is tied to the plate....thats all....nothing to lose sleep over.
Choose Life - Home Page (http://www.machoose-life.org/)
Just because its not a charity you support doesn't make it any less noble.
I bet there are people out there driving around w/ Red Sox or Celtics plates and don't even know the money goes to charity.
BigFish 10-15-2010, 03:42 PM It still promotes a choice or a moral belief. I still do not think it belongs on our states plates!!

The Dad Fisherman 10-15-2010, 07:17 PM Still not as offensive as a New York Yank-mee plate....

Tagger 10-18-2010, 06:26 AM How about "Choose Death".. picture of a guy strapped in an electric chair or a big hypodermic needle .. Might be offensive to some but not to me .. Can I have that on my license plate ?
The Dad Fisherman 10-18-2010, 07:02 AM If you can get 1500 signatures and the $100k retainer to make the plates.......it looks like you can. :hee:

During thirty-seven years of stopping people for violations and twenty years of looking at these special interest plates I have never, ever stopped a plate for its designation as something special to the operator or owner of the vehicle the plate is on, nor have I ever heard a fellow officer do that. Really. But hey I don't care anymore. I just thought it was funny that you thought this happens.

You may be right, but I can't imagine it does a person any favors. The number of times I've seen some asinine bumper sticker on someone's car and thought, "man, that person is just baiting people for hostile responses." I think of it as if I were a cop and there is a situation where I would be on the line between giving a ticket or a warning. This person has one of those "9-11 was an Inside Job" bumper stickers on their car. Well you bet that idiot is getting a ticket.
