Swimmer 01-17-2011, 10:57 AM I was at a bead show with my wife, who does jewelry, not me, at the embassy hotel a few doors away on Sunday Monday and when we left I saw now traffic in or out of the venue Saltdog. It just didn't look busy at all.
saltydog 01-17-2011, 01:32 PM SWIMMER. it was bussy Friday opening till about 2 oclock then it died down. I just saw your a retired surfer. I started back in 66 in Hawaii still have the board I had coustom made. was one of the first one w/ removeable skeg, hanging in my shed, when my daughters were young they started out w/ it also paddeling around. maby give it to my GRANDDAUGHTER in a few years:smash:
GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN:uhuh:
saltfly 01-22-2011, 02:58 PM I went on Friday from 10-3:uhuh:.Spoke with a few folks.Picked up a couple of capes[flatwing] and a couple of hen capes for eyes.Whiting put a large increase in their capes[30-50%].It was OK but......Next year an over nighter at Somerset is going to be way to go.Tying materials are getting pretty thin at Marlboro.Bears Den[scott],Whitewater[Greg] and the booth on the back wall. That was about it.I know it's hard times and not to be negative best I can.
rphud 01-22-2011, 05:31 PM Nope. Too busy at work, and then it snowed in CT to nix Somerset trip down this Friday. Will have to make sure I make it to Bears Den.
saltydog 01-23-2011, 01:52 PM ALERT--> you SHOULD be
watching the QUALITY of feathers what you buy,(unless you dont care what they look like) DON'T be afraid to OPEN them up an check threw, I remember seeing $30.00 packs w/ feathers missing in them. doesn't say much for the VENDER, I also have problems, guys PACKAGING there OWN. Ive had to return some, wont mention any names . QUALITY has gone WAY DOWN. w/ less an less fly shops around you SHOULD be able to find GOOD QUALITY feathers, make them take the extra step an NOT buy JUNK FEATHERS just because they can make a EXTRA BUCK on YOU. ENOUGHT SAID
GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN:uhuh:
saltfly 01-23-2011, 02:10 PM Agreed!!! that's why I go to the shows. That way I can open the bags and fan the feathers.I've actually had a couple of minor "issues" with previous vendors that didn't want me opening the product.I explained my reason why and that the product would be replaced as well as it was prior to me opening it.I didn't have a problem after that "discussion".What I really noticed was the lack of good bucktails in different shades.Hmmmm?????!!!!I forgot you were going to be tying there I would have stopped and said hello.
saltydog 01-23-2011, 02:52 PM you should have swung buy I gave away a bunch of FLATWINGS, even had an oldtimer staring at them for a while an asked if they were kennys flies, an if they were for SALE :rotf2: I said they were tied by me. I gave him one, you should have see his eyes light up, looked like a little kid getting some candy. dont think he will fish it. hope he enjoys it. BUCKTAILS the booth where Jack Gartside use to be. he had HUNDREDS of them even PASTEL COLORS all for $5.00 I grabbed a few off colors for my flatwings.
GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN:cheers:
saltfly 01-23-2011, 05:09 PM That was Brad Buzzis booth[bucktails] and I did look through them.Yes some were very nice.Still no where near those days of.Dwn&Trout,Sltwtr Edge,Hunters, etc. It's just the way it is now.I'm waiting for Jules to post in the near future here and then do some of my own[dye].
saltydog 01-24-2011, 01:05 PM I hear 'ya. I thought she POSTED already, could be wrong I picked up some OLD TAIL:rotf2: at the pelham show last year the tails were
12" long an the HAIRS were 5" long were from RUMPE. GREAT stuff for saltwater. I use to buy from them YEARS ago if I remember Brad Guage was one of there salseman, you always got QUALITY PRODUCT , an if anything did'nt look good they always exchanged it for what you wanted, to bad GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE no longer EXISTS.
GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN:uhuh:
saltfly 01-24-2011, 04:33 PM I looked in my check book and a check was mailed out 1-28-10 so "she's due ":soon:
