Who the heck are these people and why does their site come up when I click on a thread on S-B?:smash:

 something weird going on

I click on a thread and this site comes up, I hit back and the thread shows for a fraction of a second and back to this site, over and over unless I click back twice fast.

This is not the first time either, it has happened to me atleast 2 other times

 it happened twice today alone.

 What is going on?
does this happen because of the google add?

 I have popup blocker

 :wall:

did you DRAG and drop the address
of S_B .com to your desktop?

so you have a clickable short cut handy?

or i should ask: when you go to s-b how do you
go about it...? do you type in the address each time?

icons are little graphic symbols that allow you to open an executable file
for a program or a shortcut to something on the internet like weather.com
 ect.. google... microsoft word.
Slipknot 01-29-2011, 07:52 AMya it's at the top of my favorites list
what does that have to do with this site popping up?
striperman36 01-29-2011, 09:05 AMnothing, you being hacked, did you run a malware detection software?
Raven 01-29-2011, 03:52 PMwell you can drag S-B off of your favorites list to your desktop

TheSpecialist 01-29-2011, 11:54 PMIt's not an icon problem, I get it too sometimes on here, sometimes on the other site.
BigBo 01-30-2011, 12:52 AMSame here. It's definately not an icon problem. I've run malware detection and it comes up negres.
Karl F 01-30-2011, 11:42 AMS-B gone buggy.. banner ads and the like taking over?
I get them as well, but only here.. reported them all to my so called "free" norton from comcrap..and ain't seen them since
striperman36 01-30-2011, 11:55 AMrun combofix. this could be a nasty infection, does your mouse itch, or run?
Karl F 01-30-2011, 01:09 PMno, just hemmoroid issues, little prep h, and "away...we go!"
JohnR 01-31-2011, 08:49 PMOK, wish I had checked this thread earlier. To the best of my knowledge (and memory) we had two incidents, one an infected file here years ago - not serious - and cleaned. And more recently last year a problem with some google ads, fixed after a couple days (and disabled during the time of issue). And NOT on S-B's server.

Current issue - I have scanned the server TWICE and come up empty.
I am scanning my PC (which I do almost daily) and it is clean.
I do not believe the site is infected, in fact I'm pretty confident (though not absolute) that it is not infected.
Raven, please do not go deep into recommendations on how to clean and access PCs, viruses and the like. We love ya kid, but stick with the magic potions and leave this stuff to the geeks :buds:.
The S-B clean your PC quick and dirty (http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripertalk/computers/51512-quick-dirty-how-clean-speed-up-your-computer.html), 2.5 years later, is as valid as ever.
Be SURE to have your computer fully patched with the security downloads from M$

If you suspect a piece of virus / malware is coming from S-B, please PM me - that way I know right away.

IIRC the MyWebFace is part of some download - not associated with S-B - that has to do with online searching / avatar type crap.

If your computer IS infected, it likely came from somewhere else and is activated when you go on the web, regardless of whether S-B or somewhere else.

 Steps:

Download, install, update, run Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)

Run MS / Windows updates: Start > Programs > Windows Update. Run all of the important updates.
 Have UP TO DATE Anti-Virus:

Kaspersky is great but a nagging P.I.A.
 AVG is pretty good
Norton Sucks and is a pig
 Trend Micro is fair
 Norton Sucks.

Update, Update, Update, then full scan

 Reboot, rescan with Malwarebytes
striperman36 01-31-2011, 08:52 PMJohnR - it's a DNS attack. it's on the combofix boards. It seems to have some relation to p2p file sharing system.

 Link?

I've seen this as being related to MyWebSearch toolbar - arguably a source of spam and a resource hog.

Only problem with Combofix is can break things.
Slipknot 02-01-2011, 10:27 AMthanks John, I'm pretty sure we have AVG
I will show this to Melissa when she gets home and have her follow thru
I'm not messing with that geek stuff update malware
fishaholic18 03-13-2011, 09:35 AMSounds like an OSI Layer 8 issue:)
iamskippy 03-13-2011, 09:52 AMSounds like an OSI Layer 8 issue:)
OK that is funny (People Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away), i was leaning more towards the ID 10 T error.
 :rotf2:

or the PRBKAC error, or perhaps a key board and mouse driver issue?
 :buds:
