It does look like it would be fun, not sure how it would be on a party boat with all the neighbors though. You more than likely will be fishing in betqween 260- 320' of water... the tide runs hard out there.. going to be mighty tough to hold bottom with a tiny jig... Rob Rockcrawler 04-06-2011, 12:33 PM I wouldnt be trying it, but would like to see someone else give it a whirl. It would make for a tough dangle angle with a light jig. BrianS 04-21-2011, 07:02 AM if a slot opens for some reason, please let me know.. i have a +1more that wants in. niko 04-21-2011, 07:40 AM a little over 3 weeks away boys. here is the plan for the pools - pool #1 will be a $10 entry, the biggest cod will win 50%, the biggest non-cod will win the other 50%. so with 40 guys each winner should get around 200 bucks. pool #2 will be the "high roller pool", $20 entry and the biggest fish takes it. pools are optional but i can think of many occasions the guy w/ the big fish didn't enter the pool. let's go kill some fish :) JackK 04-21-2011, 09:11 AM IMO biggest non-cod in #1 should get 25%, but that's just me... Although it would be funny to see a $200 ocean pout if we don't get into haddock/pollock. Do porbeagles count for #2? :jump1: The Dad Fisherman 04-21-2011, 09:24 AM Do Dogfish count as Non-Cod? striperman36 04-21-2011, 09:25 AM porbeagles should be non-cod but could also be biggest fish JackK 04-21-2011, 09:38 AM And the way I read it, could one fish potentially take both pools? That's it- I'm bringing the 80w and black magic :uhuh: we goin sharkin' niko 04-21-2011, 09:55 AM lets spread the wealth and not be greedy. if you win one pool you are out of the rest. i would rather have 3 guys w/ smiles on their faces than 1 guy w/ fat wallet that everone hates. in the non-cod catagory and the high roller all legal keeper fish can win. so yes a legal porbeagle is elligable - a wolffish is not Fish On 04-27-2011, 11:45 PM Things ae at least headed in the right direction........... Provided gear? same question here. i have a lot of gear, but heavy jigs (over 4oz.) are not in my arsenal... rod? reel? line? what i usually do is bring 2 setups. one for bait and one for jigging. i prefer to jig but truth be told all my big cod have been on some sort of bait. for a jigging rod i've got an 8' st croix rated to 20 oz paired up w/ a torium 20 w/ 50#braid to a 20' topshot of 60# mono to a 80#leader. for a bait setup just a cheap 7' trophy rod w/ a penn 320gt2 , same line - nothing fancy. for jigs it depends on the weather and where/how deep we fish. maybe someone else can chime in with some intel about that. if the wind is light and we're not deep than you can get away w/ light stuff 7-10 oz. but more likely we'll be jigging 10-20+ oz. remember there are 40 other guys fishing around you - if you go too light you'll scope out too quick and tangle alot. ideally you want to be as verticle as possible. i've got a big ass jig bucket i'll bring and you guys are welcome to dip into it as needed. i poured a ton of 16 and 20 oz bank sinkers at leadfest too. i cant wait to watch eelskimmer sweat with a double header of pollock. linesider69 05-05-2011, 01:36 AM 1. I have that prepaid spot available (corner stern) for someone that wants to join the trip. Here is what we believe is the list of folks that wanted to attend but didn't get a spot in order. I'd like to offer it to those folks first but need to identify a replacement ASAP. Tight lines! Weather looking good. Hope the bite is hot! Update: JackK +1 has the spot JackK 05-12-2011, 12:30 PM My plus one still would like to go- He's ready to go for Sunday. Just couldn't commit financially at that point when the trip was filling up. Brad is very fired up to see all you ice fishin' guys, by the way! yup -leaves at 5 So whats the pool going to be? Any need to bring some pluggage? we were thinking a $10 pool w/ 50% for biggest cod and 50% to biggest non-cod. and another one that was $20 - biggest fish takes it all. if there is interest in a plug pool it would be fun and we can get rid of the $20 pool. lets hear some opinions about the plug pool RickBomba 05-13-2011, 06:42 PM The boat looks small...you guys think it's ok if Brad and I bring a 150 qt cooler between the two of us? Fish On 05-13-2011, 06:44 PM I say leave the $20 pool. If only 10 guys join it's still $200. Totally optional. PRBuzz 05-13-2011, 07:08 PM we were thinking a $10 pool w/ 50% for biggest cod and 50% to biggest non-cod. and another one that was $20 - biggest fish takes it all. if there is interest in a plug pool it would be fun and we can get rid of the $20 pool. lets hear some opinions about the plug pool So the biggest fish gets 50% of the $10 pool and all the $20 pool? Something not right there? Rob Rockcrawler 05-13-2011, 07:16 PM I will bring cash a NIP AH Danny just in case we wind up having a plug pool as well. I think having a 10 dollar a head pool, $300 for biggest, $100 for second and a plug pool would be fun. Plugs could go to most fish caught, Cusk King of the day, first to puke, skunk master. Just throwing some ideas out. JackK 05-13-2011, 08:13 PM I like the idea of two pools... But IMO because this is a cod trip, I vote that the $20 'High Roller' pool is renamed the 'King Cod' pool- Biggest Cod gets the pot. I think the emphasis should go to that species. I like the other pool. And like Niko said, if you win one category, DQ'ed from the others. So if one has the largest cod onboard, and is entered into both pools, then they get the 'king cod' title, but can't win the $10 pool. There should be three separate winners at the end of the day- that's a good idea :uhuh: **RR- First to puke- brilliant. Do you win something, or have to give up something?? :hihi: Piscator 05-13-2011, 08:21 PM [QUOTE=Plugs could go to most fish caught, Cusk King of the day, first to puke, skunk master. I'm just going to bring it! JackK 05-13-2011, 08:51 PM We have the big boat... I'm bringing a 150 for myself, and I think Alewife is as well niko 05-13-2011, 09:42 PM here is the plan for the pools - pool #1 will be a $10 entry, the biggest cod will win 50%, the biggest non-cod will win the other 50%. so with 40 guys each winner should get around 200 bucks. pool #2 will be the "high roller pool", $20 entry and the biggest fish takes it. pools are optional but i can think of many occasions the guy w/ the big fish didn't enter the pool. :) lets spread the wealth and not be greedy. if you win one pool you are out of the rest. i would rather have 3 guys w/ smiles on their faces than 1 guy w/ fat wallet that everone hates. here's a breakdown on the pools guys. we also need to collect a few bucks to cover bossmans fare. lets go kill some fish :) Fish On 05-13-2011, 10:34 PM Niko your pool setups are fine with me. Adding the plug pool for fun categories like Piscator suggests would be a fun way to kill time on the ride in. Nothing like puking and getting skunked and then getting recognized for both achievements in front of everyone on the way in :-) Please tell me "biggest fish" and "biggest non-cod" do not include dog fish....... nightfighter 05-14-2011, 06:11 AM Everyone got your saltwater licenxe? niko 05-14-2011, 07:16 AM if the big fish of the day is a dogfish then we picked the wrong boat. and you usually don't need a liscence to fish on a partyboat PRBuzz 05-14-2011, 08:03 AM Yesterday's Clipper fishing report: 05/13/11 Friday Finally back out with just a long lazy swell left over from this weeks big offshore storm. As for the fish front alot more life slowing up with some whales for viewing but the bite was only slightly better.A mix of cod and haddock on bait and jig with a bunch of short cod going back over the side in between.Overall a fair day of keepers with the stern boys getting their usual. The weekend is soldout on the allday next available Wednesday.
