View Full Version : sight at canal this morning
ProfessorM 06-20-2011, 05:59 PM something you don't see every morning. Escorted by Coast Guard thru the canal. Asked them where they were going and they said Maine, I said your nuts and they said yeah but we left Key West in March. Said they are from Little Compton. Wow.
striperman36 06-20-2011, 06:02 PM I read about these guys back in Jan on Aquidneck.
Good for them, benefitting the Wounded Warrior project.
SUP the Coast - Our Mission (http://www.supthecoast.com/)
They also had the CG Aux ferry them through the canal, I guess that's the boat in the lead
ProfessorM 06-20-2011, 06:07 PM one smallish boat in front one in back.
FISHING_FOOL 06-20-2011, 06:08 PM These people are nuts.....
numbskull 06-20-2011, 06:21 PM That back guy ought to hurry up. It would suck to paddle from Key West to Maine and come in second.
Tagger 06-20-2011, 06:25 PM I saw them too Paul .. saw CG boat go by ,, then came back with those guys .. Cool rigs ,, wonder if you can sit down ? must be tiring standing from Key West to Maine .

the first 2 boats where Coast Guard, and the one in the back was a fishing boat, but it came back west bound, also you caught me in the back ground on one of your pics!

striperman36 06-20-2011, 09:23 PM Search Results - EastBayRI.com (http://www.eastbayri.com/detail/143903.html?content_source=&category_id=&search_filter=stand+up+paddlers&list_type=&order_by=&order_sort=&content_class=&sub_type=&town_id=)
Getting the permit from the Coast Guard to paddle through the canal was “next to impossible,” said Mimi. “It was huge government red tape,” she said.
Nice at least they got the permit
Fishoholic 06-20-2011, 10:16 PM Good guys. Will is from LC and Mike is from Colorado. My work actually hooked them up with most of the gear.. Our very own Timmah made the big JD stickers for their boards :grins:
stripermaineiac 06-20-2011, 10:23 PM Looks to me like they're coming to Maine from your neck of the woods LOL. Ist good wind and a couple big waves they come back to you . All bull aside it is a good thing their doing.

Notaro 06-22-2011, 01:11 PM Wow, those guys are insane. I saw this type of boating on the Charles once before. I wouldn't have paddled and stood on it through the canal.
ProfessorM 06-22-2011, 01:40 PM Guys in Hawaii do it on 20 foot waves and ride the wave down the face

Ya, they want to survive the trip not die from some nasty disease or bacteria from any of the 10,000 seals there they'd have to paddle by:wall:
