Hi guys,
here you see a picture of my 1st boat EVER and i was wondering where i could safely take a boat this small, i mean could i drive out to the vinyard or nantucket or do i really need to stay close to shore and not venture more thatn say .25 mile plus theres the safety check list from electronics to driedbeef and K rashions...
please add whats missing or remove whats not needed...

Since it is not a v hull, you'll pound even a small chop, but there are still plenty striper spots you can fish safely. Where did you intend on fishing?
You could put into waquoit bay in falmouth, N.River in Marshfield, Plymouth/Duxbury/Kingston bay (but check the winds).
I'd pass on attempting a trip to MV with that boat.
Get good rain gear cause i think you might get wet.
Congrats on your first boat, buy charts on where you're going to go they're your best friend.

I wouldn't go out too far in that boat. IMO, that's more of a fresh water boat. You should be okay in safe estuaries, rivers, and inshore on calm days.
It looks like a nice boat but not really designed for the rough salt even with all the right safety gear. I'm sure many others will tell you as well that all too often, you head out on a nice calm day, then the wind kicks up and things go bad in a hurry.
I just don't want to see anyone taking risky chances and something go wrong, then it's too late.:)

good feed back guys thanks i didn't think it would go to MV but was hoping it would be good enough to fish from say green harbor to gurnet point and all the estuarys and rivers inbetween. i know it's a fresh water boat but i also want to use in for the inshore areas of the south shore.

YUP, like everyone said, that is an INSIDE boat. Maybe venture a bit (repeat a bit) further out if weather permits, but large boat wakes are swampers too. I know the gurnet area and that can/will get rough later in the day, although in the morning you may find it nice and calm.

where you from pm me and ill tell you a nice place calm most days very fishable 40 min ride from raynham stay close to shore all over the place and when its dead calm most mornings open her up and off you go but watch the ride back id take my family down there any day and by the way i have a 2 month old pm me!!

That would be real nice inside Deluxebury Bay. Launch at Plymouth Harbor or Duxbury ramp(yeah right) if you can get a parking spot.:laughs: But all inside the bay there would be nice.

You do not want to venture too far in the Sound with that boat, Mar T....play it safe. The typical 'smokey Sou 'wester' blows up often on the south side by 11:00 AM in the summer, and you'd have your family and yourself scared and uncomfortable in no time. And this is on a sunny day! A little playing around there is fine, but Nantucket is about 30 mi from Hyannis, and MV, depending on where you launch, is on the other side of plenty of rips that make up, and a stiff current can make it difficult.....aluminum boats with low free board need protected water like the aforementioned estuaries, ie Barnstable Harbor, Pleasant Bay, Waquoit etc..

The best part is those places have plenty of excellent fishing nearly all summer long...I speak from some experience in this regard: I have an aluminum skiff with a 4 stroke that I love. It is trailerable, economic and manageable enough to not discourage me from launching most any decent day....but you will not find me on the Sow and Pigs with it...

Marty - that's for inside the North River and DuxPly Bays like the guys said. You'd get tossed for sure with that anywhere else - even on good days - and you would really need all that safety gear you mentioned plus an imersion suit... Did you buy it already?

Mar T that boat is perfect for that area in Quincy where you have been fishing, and some other places.

might wanna pack a snorkle if your planning on a trip to MV.
have a 14' jon boat and it stays inside.

ok i really didn't plan on going to either MV or Nantucket was just using as a referance. but i will be going to all the other place you guys have mentioned so basically i'll be fishing from the neponset river to the canal ....but not in the canal...right?????
oh yea and an other thing any clue as to how far a 40hp evenrude with a full tank of go juice will take me?

i'll be fishing from the neponset river to the canal ....but not in the canal...right????? You'll be fishing protected waterways from the Neponset to the Plymouth. You would be foolish to try to bring that out thru Dot Bay, Hull Gut, Scituate Light, the North River Mouth, The Gurnet... Any of those crossing grounds would surely swamp that boat or you would run the risk of some yahoo in a 30something SeaRay gunning you down....

Marty how big is the gas tank? I would think you could go almost all day on 12 gallons.

thames river and the conneticut river for pluggin is good.
