View Full Version : The "It's Over" official thread
Back Beach 10-10-2013, 11:23 AM Please note, this post does not constitute the "it's over" contest beginning as that's confidential info known only by me. We're simply posting rules and awards right now so everyone knows what's at stake.
1. All entries must be landed in MA/RI/ME/NH/CT/NY waters and shore caught.
2. Provide sufficient proof of your catch. Photos strongly encouraged.
3. Fish can be either dead or alive, but don't kill one for the sake of a fishing lure, particularly one of mine.
4. Contest will begin when I say "it's over-contest begins" and end at midnight on Thanksgiving as we've traditionally done.
5. Pay attention for the start of this thing or you could miss out on a nice prize.
6. This thread will serve as tournament central. This means all ball busting, official entries, defamatory posts, and other nonsense related to the contest must be posted here.
7. Awards will be for the following categories:
"Get a life" award- Be the first to enter a fish into the tourney. Because you're online all day and viewing this thread multiple times in order to get a leg up on the competition, you must have no life and thus, a distinct advantage. Provided you can catch a single fish before the hordes pile on, you'll win the Chef Chris plugs for being our first entry as he has so generously offered up.
The "Numbskull" award- Considered by many to be the gold standard in surfcasting achievements, the "Numby" prize will be awarded to the angler who lands the smallest fish (by length) on the heaviest tackle. Being the nice guy and good Samaritan he is, Numbskull has offered up some of his fine work as fodder for this potentially nebulous achievement.
"Grand Champion"- This one speaks for itself. Catch the biggest fish (by length) and win the booty which will include the LIFishVT plugs (thanks John) and any other swag you guys want to pile on with. If entries are close, winner will be determined by weight or any other means deemed necessary.
"Late Entry" award- This one will go to the last S-B er to enter a fish before the midnight deadline on Thanksgiving. Seeing many like to fish BI at this time of year, you'll win the neon green needlefish from Piemma as testament to your commitment.
Ok, stay tuned for the ribbon cutting as it could come at any time and good luck to our fine field of participants, I hope.

ProfessorM 11-06-2013, 04:17 PM You guys are lucky boat fish don't count. I had some 12 inch fish yesterday with Numby.

numbskull 11-06-2013, 06:12 PM Not all of them were 12".
Also note where he put the lip gaff :err:
ProfessorM 11-06-2013, 07:56 PM oh now I see what you were talking about, but it wouldn't fit in the holder the other way.:smash:
StriperZ 11-06-2013, 08:15 PM Sadly, I will be a Numby.
I caught the smallest sea robin on a diamond jig from Wood End light beach, where you can cast out to the deep water.

tlapinski 11-07-2013, 08:27 AM Back on track with what really matters, here is my submission for the Numbskull baby cow award:
14 inch bass landed on a Century SlingShot 1327 (2-5 ounce rating), VS250, 35 pound Fireline and 60 pound leader. :fishin:

Perfect Toby, someone finally had the gall to measure one. :laughs: ProfM is gonna be heartbroken.

Back Beach 11-07-2013, 10:57 AM Latest standings:
TLAP- Leading the Numbskull division.
JLH- Leading the grand prize division with a 46" fish, but Numby's big one looks awful close at 45" fork length.
Back Beach 11-07-2013, 03:20 PM Guys,
If you want to enter a Numby fish, please try to get a measurement. I ask this because it looks like we've got several fish submitted which are smaller than TLAP's leading fish, but no accurate measurements have been taken to confirm their size.
This presents a problem in that we have no means of measuring one fish against another, thus I must recognize anything measured as the leading fish, even though guys may have captured smaller ones but didn't measure. Fair enough?
fishstick was just shy of 13". penn 460 with 50#pp with 50 pound seagar flouro. rod was a st Croix 8'6"

Guppy 11-07-2013, 03:46 PM I named him fishstick
wow
did you pull that in all by yourself,,, :devil2:
it's all about the stategy gup. get them on top and surf them in. works every time
BigFish 11-07-2013, 04:00 PM I named him fishstick
Its photoshopped....that fish was 15 inches all day long!! LOL!
ProfessorM 11-07-2013, 04:11 PM Bummer now I have to go back out and freeze my arse off to get a smaller one. I should have had Numbskull drop me off on shore to get one as we bumped into several tiny fish blitz's that day. The things you think of after the fact.

Don't bother. If you win I'm just going to regift you one of your own......probably that pink needlefish with the Mirror Coat removable wrapper.
ProfessorM 11-07-2013, 08:07 PM Well the promise of that little gem will get me a couple hours more of sleep tomorrow morning, thanks.

Just post a vote poll? Let the community vote on the smallest fish. Sounds fun and will get more people participating. Just an idea.

StriperZ 11-10-2013, 07:28 AM MY teeny sea robin, I know, not a striper, was about 3.5" and was caught on a 27 diamond jig, using an 11 foot Ugly stick, Penn 7500 reel, with 40 lb test mono, and a 60 lb leader. I barely got it in. My smallest striper was way bigger than the dinks you guys caught.
Back Beach 11-10-2013, 01:01 PM Niko has taken over as the Numbskull division leader with a 13" fish...
The saga continues...
ProfessorM 11-10-2013, 02:20 PM just isn't fair as all the fish I have seen the past few days are too darn big. Heck the sea herring are 13". Maybe I need to bring a magic marker and stripe a sea herring.
numbskull 11-17-2013, 06:19 PM From the 12th......... the am it snowed. Put a real effort in first for zilch, then hit an estuary with light tackle for this 24" fish. Great green color. Not sure it counts for a late fish but whatever. Probably I'm done.
ProfessorM 11-17-2013, 07:55 PM snow on the ground and everything. Great pic.

Man's best friend.
Nice !!
always love the dog pics. i have a great pup, but I hope to one day have one that likes to fish :)
tlapinski 11-21-2013, 01:20 PM Caught a handful of bass to 14 pounds in SoCo over the weekend. Still a lot of small fish to be had in RI & CT but none quite small enough to regain the Numbskull award spot and none anywhere near big enough to knock out JLH from the big fish spot. Either way, I am happy to just still be catching and there is always tonight!
tlapinski 11-22-2013, 08:28 AM I found the mother load of 14- to 15-inch bass last night but despite my best efforts I was unsuccessful in knocking Niko out of the Numbskull spot. November 22nd and I saw more bait along the oceanfront than I have seen all year.
Mr. Sandman 11-22-2013, 09:24 AM Does this count?
Got this monster on 40# braid and a numby darter:jump1:
I found some tiny fish yesterday in my neck of the woods, less than 12 inches. wondering if these are wintering over around here
numbskull 11-28-2013, 12:44 PM Late entry. Noon today. Had to leave 'em to go eat. Happy Thanksgiving.
numbskull 11-29-2013, 12:10 PM A day late but worth showing.
ProfessorM 11-29-2013, 03:00 PM Show off. I raked
Leaves all day. You fishing in a pond now? I'll bet the dog was disappointed in one that size.

piemma 11-29-2013, 04:02 PM Mikey, give us the standings Where I send the needlefish
A day late but worth showing.
Nice. Could that possibly be an SP I've seen in a couple pics now?!?Or a wooden version of something similar? (I didn't think you fished plastic)

Yesterday's was on an old mambo minnow, today's on a small youzri I found washed up. I also got one on a small Bod Pond atom (which is a cool little plug). All plastic, as I've not built anything this small........yet.
JohnR 11-30-2013, 10:06 AM Is that a Yozuri "Live"? Those are great
Back Beach 11-30-2013, 08:38 PM First entered=BiteMe
Biggest entry= JLH with a 46" fish
Numbskull= Niko with a 13" behemoth
Late entry= Numskull with a swoosh at the buzzer
Congrats guys and a big thanks to our plug sponsors: :btu:
If everyone would kindly pm me their mailing addresses I'll work out the logistics of what goes where.
tlapinski 12-01-2013, 09:32 AM Even though it's over, it's not quite over yet. Landed six bass to 30 inches last night "out front" in the salt. Had pretty solid action until the wind switched and kicked up to 20-plus MPH and shut it down.
islander 12-01-2013, 02:11 PM Nice, You'll have to get one more to make into the 12th month club.
JohnnySaxatilis 12-03-2013, 07:53 AM Nice one Numby! I believe I saw you a few days ago at an undisclosed fesh pond with your golden, and another buddy. I was the turkey in the white car on the boat ramp trying to gain some feeling in my toes. Only managed one bow before I froze, hope you guys did better than me. happy holidays. And congrats to all the winners here btw!
