View Full Version : Staggering COVID-19 Statistic: 98% to 99% of Americans Dying are Unvaccinated
wdmso 12-21-2021, 09:12 PM And we all know why but But its Bidens fault
The KFF poll, conducted December 15 to 20 among 1,065 U.S. adults, found 87% of unvaccinated respondents say news about the omicron variant makes them no more likely to get vaccinated, while 12% say it makes them more likely.
Among vaccinated respondents, 54% said omicron makes them more likely to get a booster shot.
While 49% of all adults say they’re now at least somewhat worried they’ll get “seriously sick from the coronavirus”—up from 30% in November—only 42% of the unvaccinated say they’re concerned, versus 52% of vaccinated respondents.:btu:

Jim in CT 12-22-2021, 08:12 AM wdmso, i’m not disputing you, just curious, do you have a link to data showing that 98% of deaths are among unvaccinated? i can’t find anything that drastic.
got my booster yesterday.
unfortunately for biden, covid deaths are up on his watch, and you wouldn’t expect that because we had no vaccine for
most of the first year, and also because you’d expect the sickest people to die first. over time, we should be left with a healthier population.
i’m not saying the increased deaths are his fault. But it happened in his watch, and he’ll get some blame. George Bush had nothing to do with the subprime mortgage crisis, but it imploded on his watch, and everyone in the left blamed him for political gain.
That’s how it goes. Politics is a contact sport, as they say. There’s all kinds of time for Biden to turn it around. But covid ( not really his fault) and inflation ( somewhat his fault as he printed trillions of dollars) are just clobbering him, and he doesn’t really have the charisma to soothe peoples concerns.

You love to beat that drum...
The rate is closing for the race disparity in vaccinations, FWIW.
From KFF.org today.
Racial disparities in vaccination rates have narrowed over time and have nearly closed for Hispanic people. Between November 29 and December 13, vaccination rates increased by 1.0 percentage points for Black people (from 50.3% to 51.3%), by 1.1 percentage points for Hispanic people (from 55.3% to 56.4%), and by 1.2 percentage points for Asian people (from 75.3% to 76.5%). In contrast, they remained roughly stable for White people (at 58%). Over the course of the vaccination rollout, differences between vaccination rates for Black, Hispanic, and White people have narrowed, and the gap between rates for White and Hispanic people has nearly closed. Between late April 2021, when most adults became eligible for vaccines across states, and December 13, 2021, the gap in vaccination rates between White and Black people fell from 14 percentage points (38% vs. 24%) to 7 percentage points (58% vs. 51%) while the difference between White and Hispanic vaccination rates decreased from 13 percentage points (38% vs. 25%) to two percentage points (58% vs. 56%)."

i don’t love to beat it, as i wish everyone was vaccinated.
but if you’re going to bash republicans for having low vaccination rates ( which is fair), you should acknowledge other demographics that also have low vaccination rates. unless all you really care about, is bashing republicans. which is obviously all that they care about. and maybe you’re in that group too, i didn’t use to think so.
“the rate is closing for race disparity.”
fine. but when that disparity was at its peak, none of the lefties here attacked blacks for having low rates, they only attacked republicans. you were among those who wouldn’t comment on it, even when that disparity was at its peak. i’m sure you did so for political
convenience. if not, what other reason is there?
so unless unvaccinated republicans pose a higher risk than unvaccinated blacks, it appears that the lefty outrage over the unvaccinated is selective and purely politically motivated, which necessarily means the outrage is fake.
I think everyone should get vaccinated. I think all of the unvaccinated ( not just those who vote differently than i do) are being selfish.l and stupid.
I really wish just one of you would
tell us what you’re afraid would happen, exactly, if you could be mildly critical of your own side when it’s warranted? Almost none of you can do it. It’s fascinating.

Speaking from experience.
Both parents 2 shots and booster shot.
Week after booster shot mother is in ICU with blockages.
A few more stays in the hospital and being told there’s nothing that can be done she’s send home with hospice & lots of morphine that my sister gives to her.
Thought yesterday was the day as it was a bad one but will be any day now.
But on the bright side, as of next month government sends out 1 les SS check & Medicare covers 1 less drain on their system.

Ronnie, please accept my thoughts and prayers for your mom and the rest of your family.
But from your post, it does not appear that she had the J&J vaccine, as that is the one identified with causing 54 cases of blood clots. Patients typically developed symptoms nine days after vaccination and were hospitalized five days after they developed symptoms, according to the CDC. The overwhelming majority of patients were women, 37 total, and the median age was 44.
Again, I am truly sorry, but not sure of your direct cause and effect being on the vaccine.

I've seen some people suggest, mock that the unvaccinated that end up sick or dying from covid is the "darwin's theory" in action..."natural selection" and on and on...these are the evolutionist typically...problem is Darwin's theory does not take into account vaccination....in natural selection and in nature those that are weak, unhealthy, vulnerable to a virus or pandemic would die...so if the evolutionists really believe in natural selection and evolution...we probably shouldn't vaccinate and just let nature take it' s natural course for the good of the species
we are suffering from overpopulation anyway...right?
we currently vaccinate unhealthy populations to allow them them survive and continue their unhealthy lifestyles and also demand that the healthy portion of the population be vaccinated(not knowing the possible long term effects) to protect the sick, unhealthy, which makes sense from a compassion standpoint but makes no sense from an evolution/natural selection/survival of the fittest/we are all just highly evolved monkeys standpoint
and before wayne loses his mind and starts cutting pasting a bunch of crap, I'm vaccinated, I think if you are at risk, unhealthy you should definitely get vaccinated/boosted.. I just think it's funny that this gets thrown around as though the unvaccinated are the stupid ones...the unhealthy, are in fact, the stupid ones(vaccinated or unvaccinated) because post covid, whenever that is...the healthy will still be healthy(unless there are unintended consequences from the jabs) and the unhealthy will still be ticking time bombs

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also touted his state’s recent COVID-19 data during an Oct. 29 interview on Fox News’ “Ingraham Angle.” Host Laura Ingraham introduced DeSantis by saying, “Florida is one of the big COVID success stories that the media would prefer to ignore altogether. Now, the Sunshine State now has one of the lowest daily case and death rates out there.”
DeSantis replied: “I guess Florida is no longer part of the United States. They just pretend like we don’t exist.” He also said, “Now that we’re in a situation we have very low numbers, you don’t hear a peep.”

unintended" consequences and claiming it’s a rushed vaccine is one of the top reasons for unvaccinated Republicans. With Nearly 40% of Republicans are still hesitant about getting the Covid-19 vaccine or refuse to get it. Then throw in counties with the highest support for former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election were 44% more likely to be vaccine hesitant, King says. Those living in a state with a Republican governor were 34% more likely to be hesitant than people living in a state with a Democratic governor.
And we all know what party made it a partisan issue and still are today

And you’re missing the part that counts, though it seems you believe Covid only affects the vulnerable.
Though fighting some of the worst coronavirus outbreaks, highly vaccinated states have largely managed to keep the worst outcomes of infection at bay and data on hospitalizations and death rates largely shows states with above-average vaccination rates to fare far better than their poorly vaccinated counterparts.

we’re getting to a point where number of cases is t going to mean much, because most of us are going to get covid regardless of what our state does or doesn’t do. what matters is death rates, adjusted for the population of elderly in each state, compared to the degree of lockdowns in that state. FL could
come out looking horrible in that view.

Don't look up
plenty of vaccinated people are spreading it now. they just don’t get very sick.
college campuses with 100% vaccination rates are seeing big outbreaks. the vaccine appears very effective at reducing severity ( which is great) , not so much at reducing frequency. especially with the new variant.

so when i mock Faucci, that means i mick all of medicine? Faucci s medicine?
it’s hard to agree or disagree with him, because if he says something, before you can say “I agree with that”, he has flip flopped 180 degrees and is saying the opposite.
Faucci has opposed masks and shutdowns, then supported them, now sort of opposed them again. he wanted schools closed despite science saying there was no need, now he says schools need to be open and isolation is bad for
mental health.
he also denies the likelihood that the virus came from the wuhan lab, and lied through his teeth about indirectly finding research at that lab.
he’s a clown. Faucci isn’t always wrong ( as i said, i’m vaccinated), but he has no consistent principles.
So unless i admire every doctor you like, that means i am

didn't say that...but they should probably make people wear three life preservers the entire time they are on a boat to be sure that they absolutely do not drown or take anyone down with them...
in yesterday's supreme court hearings we learned that Kagan and Breyer are idiots
it would make more sense to punish or get rid of the unhealthy vaccinated...they are going to continue to clog up the medical system and consume more than their weight in medical services despite covid....getting vaccinated just means they can continue their unhealthy lifestyle, they might be slightly less susceptible to covid or not, at least till the next variant, but they are still 100% susceptible to all of the other health threats they've made themselves targets for driving up medical and insurance cost for the rest of us...why do we put up with these people as a society?;)
Pete F. 01-08-2022, 08:08 AM The difference is you can get into the Supreme Court, for the rest of the country I guess it doesn’t matter.
If you don’t care that there are medical facilities available in case of an accident, severe illness etc, of course don’t get vaccinated.
You have a 90% chance of not being hospitalized if you’re vaccinated.
If some find medicine so frightful, perhaps they’ll just stay home if they get Covid.
Full hospitals are a serious issue, in non pandemic times they don’t keep many beds empty. They are sized for the normal demand and most people don’t go for fun.

wdmso 01-08-2022, 10:00 AM maybe just exterminate them and be done with these deplorables....
hey wayne...who is worse?...someone who is unvaccinated and has never gotten covid(I know some) or someone who is double vaccinated and boostered and has gotten covid twice now?...I know some of them too
it's always good when Germany starts treating a segment of their population harshly...I heard Italy is too...
It’s a sad day when the goal is to keep Americans out of the Hospitals so Americans with other issues are not left on the sidewalk waiting for a bed
But people on the right and other anti vax people seem to not care who’s on the sidewalk ! And twist this vaccine as a form of control or an attack on their freedom.
The word freedom is now attached to any argument or topic from conservatives they agree or disagree with .
We are lucky today’s GOP and it’s supporters were not around during WW 1 or WW 2. Food, gas and clothing were rationed. Communities conducted scrap metal drives. They would be crying about their freedoms as individuals. but they would have been on board. With Japanese Americans having their rights as citizens stripped from them that much is certain
It’s funny the entire world sees being unvaccinated for what it is. A problem to society. regardless of right wing media is saying they the vaccines are doing just what they were designed to keep people out of the hospital …
someone should ask rand Paul what happened to natural immunity?
Op-Ed: Rand Paul: the ophthalmologist "The science proves people with natural immunity should skip COVID vaccines"
That’s the unvaccinated source of info people like rand or the usual YouTube tictok or FB or Twitter full of info and empty on experience and credentials
I know a family of 4 2had Covid 1st time around and 2 did not all got the vaccine and now all 4 tested positive.. what changed the virus
Changed it became more transmissible than delta but we and the world got lucky it’s not as deadly
But conservatives and anti vax people across the globe are the same it’s about only about them .
But they cry foul when their inaction causes Governments to deny them access to people and places fine them or raise their insurance rates because they are a RISK or provide no coverage at all if the do get sick and hospitalized , and send them the. Bill .
Imagine if all these people refusing the vaccines in the United States were Muslim. Imagine the rights outrage

75% of Americans are vaccinated and the majority of the hospitalized are unvaccinated.
As far as fault goes, if a person chooses not to get the free vaccine and ends up in the hospital, they should get the bill.

Is that your argument. [I You know a needle in a haystack ]
So it’s all a lie vaccines don’t work
How luck are we that this latest highly contagious variant isn’t killing the vaccinated or hospitalizing them .. but the effects and outcomes are not so charitable..
Let me give you an example of an insurance clause I’ve dealt with let’s call it a mandate
In the service you are covered with life insurance up to 300k because let’s face it no private insurance company is going to cover someone who may die in combat at a reasonable premium
But if you drive a motorcycle you must have a hi visibility vest on while operating or wear a seatbelt. If you are killed in an accident with out these 2 requirements. They don’t pay the claim
And that’s were we are with the unvaccinated it’s their choice
And it’s the choice of insurance or employers governments and private companies to say no vaccine no services
Freedom isnt a one way street like conservatives would love us to believe

Testing only tells you if you have enough of a viral load to trigger the test, you can actually be infected and not trigger the test.
Since an unvaccinated person has a greater chance of contracting Covid, they also have a greater chance of spreading Covid at any point in time.

but on what measure can you give him good grades for handling covid?
obviously we weren’t anywhere near prepared for omicron, even though the normal course with viruses is new variants which are more contagious, but thankfully less deadly, then the one before.
you used to be able to go to a clinic and get tested the same day yiu wanted to, now you have to wait days.
production of hime tests is way behind where it could be.
production of treatments like monoclonal antibodies is way behind where it should be. those are very effective, and unfortunately in short supply.
you’d have to give biden good grades on availability of vaccines. and that’s significant. but with the benefit of hindsight, it looks like we went all in on vaccines and let other things slip.

that sounds like a statistic AOC would blurt out to be honest...don't worry we only have 12 years left on the planet anyway
Walensky said recently that 75% or more of the people who have died...oh, and I guess we are going to finally begin differentiating between "with and from" covid because it's now politically convenient, 75%+ percent had at least 4 co-morbidities and stated "So really these are people who were unwell to begin with" and yes, really encouraging news in the context of Omicron."
while some constitute conditions that are not behavioral, the majority of people who have 4 co-morbidities are people who have not taken care of themselves for decades....obesity, diabetes, smoking, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, substance use disorders, heart conditions
A) if someone doesn't take care of themselves should you be surprised that they don't get vaxxed?
B) even vaxxed, they are teetering on the edge probably running on large daily doses of pharmaceuticals
so Wayne...how are you going to keep these people from dying or killing themselves?
are you going to hold them down and vaccinate them, and then chase them around with each booster to make sure they are protected and then monitor their diet and exercise to protect them from themselves?

scottw 01-11-2022, 07:18 AM honest question....if you are young and healthy...why would you get vaccinated at this point?....the Pfizer CEO just admitted that his first two shots are not effective in stopping infection and spread same with the booster and also admitted that they are not as safe as they'd "hoped"....also said there would be an omicron booster in March which will be just in time for the disappearance of Omicron probably....Yale New Haven medical director believes Omicron wave will pass by March
the only reason for a young, healthy person to have an experimental drug injected into their body at this point, is that it "might" lessen some symptoms which they are highly unlikely to experience anyway without the injection....
if you are old and have lots of co-morbidities...sure...probably a good idea...otherwise:spin: sounds like drug pushers pushing more drugs
if they tell you the flu shot is not likely to stop you from getting and transmitting the flu and unless you are old and ill, it "might" lessen your symptoms a bit if you happen to catch it...are you getting the flu shot?

Trump never tried to take Covid seriously he lied and lied to the American people he said it would disappear..
But in your world goals to cure cancer or to tackle Covid are considered lies .
You prefer a man who sat on hands during Covid . And this same man sat on his hands on Jan 6th ..
Why do you prefer people aka Trump who make no commitments to the American people or just refuse to act for them or tell the Truth. All in the name of his self preservation
Your a poor judge of character

"Trump never tried to take Covid seriously"
When he implemented travel restrictions, the entire left said it was an over-reaction.
So when he does something bold, it's an hysterical overreaction. When he doesn't do something bold, he didn't take it seriously enough. Whatever he does (it doesn't matter what it is), you'll say it's wrong.
He oversaw the creation of a testing and vaccine-creating infastructure that didn't exist. Within a year, you could get a test the day you wanted it (not anymore!) and they were vaccinating about a million people a day.
"he lied and lied to the American people he said it would disappear"
Biden also said he would make covid disappear. How's that working out? He promised to cure cancer too. But last time i checked, it's still around.
But Biden didn't lie., no sir. Only republicans do that.
liberal=good, conservative=bad.
Jim in CT 01-11-2022, 09:48 AM Jim regurgitation of right wing talking points is not challenging anything or anyone
Your just trying to defend Trump for his inaction
You and the right are
suggesting that Biden has done a worse job handling the pandemic than Trump did, depend on several misleading bits of data. They also ignore the fact that coronavirus deaths in 2021 have disproportionately occurred in more-Republican areas.
And who feeds these people the lies against what would keep them alive.
The have Rs next to their names

"You and the right are suggesting that Biden has done a worse job handling the pandemic than Trump did"
The data makes that clear. More cases, more deaths, much harder time getting a test now.
Biden also acted, well, you might say like an authoritarian when he issued vaccine mandates that have been struck down in some courts.
I'm old enough to remember when liberals liked to say that personal medical decisions (at least in the case of abortion) were none of the governments business.
Every doctor will tell you that the normal course of new viruses, is that they mutate, and subsequent mutations tend to be more contagious, but less severe, than previous versions. We could have been ready for this.
wdmso 01-11-2022, 09:53 AM Of course Jim is ignoring all of January in Trumps total. Even if Biden wasn’t in office
according to OurWorldInData, which relies on Johns Hopkins University figures, cumulative deaths stood at 412,892 as of January 20, still significantly more than the 393,547 recorded under Biden through to December 19.
Omg say it ain’t so Actually people did the math
And yes this count will go up over the next 3 years if The unvaccinated
Remain

When Biden has been in for a year, post what the deaths were for Trumps year and Bidens year.
Biden had significant advantages that Trump obviously didn't have. For most of Trumps year, there was no vaccine. By the time Biden got sworn in, we were vaccinating a million people a day. Plus, supposedly, Biden is a lot smarter, right? Plus, we had a year of experience that Trump didn't have the benefit of. Is any of that wrong?
Wayne, if Biden kept his campaign promise to beat covid, what do YOU think the data would show? Shouldn't there be a lot less deaths after a year of Biden's superior abilities?
What can you point to, that would indicate that Biden is beating covid?
Got Stripers 01-11-2022, 10:30 AM Jim you are such a tool, I come hear now for the humor watching you flail away with each endless crusade you start and so I can occasionally poke fun. Hey speaking of religion, which I know your all over, the Pope just stated it’s a good Christian’s moral obligation to get vaccinated. OMG what a dilemma for the faithful who have to date bought into the anti vaccine nonsense.

Me, my wife, and kids are fully vaccinated. I've never, ever spoke against vaccines here. I don't understand why people aren't getting vaccinated. (Though with omicron and likely with future variants, the vaccines will likely be less crucial as it becomes even less deadly)
It's interesting, none of you libs here could comment on the low black vaccination rate, not one of you (either Wayne or Pete brilliantly suggested they were all black Republicans, THAT was hilarious). But you are all over conservative demographics with low vaccine rates. Why is that?
Are unvaccinated liberals less dangerous than unvaccinated conservatives? One would think so, based on how selective you all are about who you criticize for being unvaccinated, and who you give a pass to for being unvaccinated.
If you think you have ever made me "flail away", you are flattering yourself. All you can do is lob baseless insults, because I'm honest and thoughtful and can praise and criticize either side as facts warrant. Yes you've really got me on the ropes.

The lefties are good at resorting to a sort of secular situational ethics that create a scenario or proposition that appears to be reasonable but actually contradicts or disregards a claim they've made in another situation.
For instance, re this thread, they go on and on about how lousy our health care is compared to other advanced countries, and how that depresses the overall health of the people of this nation. Yet, when they constantly posted statistics, week after week in 2020 that showed how Covid caused more deaths in the U.S., they disregarded all the differentiating demographic factors between us and the other advanced countries, including their own mantra about the relatively poor health of Americans, and blamed it all on Trump. Even though it was well known that dying of Covid was mostly a result of co-morbidity. The very co-morbidities that they claimed were disproportionately due to what they claimed was our poor health care system.
They conveniently forget about previous claims in other situations in order to advance an agenda in another situation. When it was pointed out in 2020 that the number of covid deaths was being inflated because hospitals were attributing all deaths to Covid even if patients were admitted for other reasons, it was sternly rebutted as being somehow insignificant. It didn't matter because even if the patient died of a heart attack, that might not have happened at that time if the patient didn't also have covid.
But now, Trump is gone, so we can probably admit, or even tamp down, the number of deaths due to Covid. We now can recognize the difference in dying "with" covid from dying "of" Covid.

That's a brand new question (never posted before), here it is again...
"if Biden kept his campaign promise to beat covid, what do YOU think the data would show?"
"So Biden’s mandates haven’t saved any lives"
Never came close to saying that. I'm certain they have saved lives. What I was talking about, was the constitutionality.
It would also save lives if the president mandated that people eat a plant based dies and walked 5 miles a day. That would save countless lives. But it would be unconstitutional.
Why do you keep claiming I said something, which I never even came close to saying? Is it because you can't respond to what I am sayong?
"All roads lead back to guess who the unvaccinated"
There were 100% unvaccinated before there was a vaccine. Yet deaths aren't dropping meaningfully, even though, what, 65% are vaccinated?
Jim in CT 01-11-2022, 12:42 PM We now can recognize the difference in dying "with" covid from dying "of" Covid.
Not quite yet, because the democrats are horrified at the prospect of what is looming come November. So until then at least, covid is worse than Ebola, and Trumps policies and his followers are the only thing preventing us from eradicating covid.
Personally I'm still anxiously awaiting the eradication of cancer, which Biden explicitly promised. We lost my wifes mom to cancer in May, so that cure he promised really would have been nice to have at that time.
Got Stripers 01-11-2022, 12:55 PM Jim maybe this post from a nurses perspective today will explain to you why everyone has been in a reactive catch up mode since this started. But in your pea brain reasoning because Biden came into office with a new vaccine and in his attempt to assure the country he would get it under control, that like magic (only if Trump won right) it would go away. This of course won’t fit into your narrative, but you will of course retort with, hey haven’t I always said this and haven’t I always said that; OMG you are THE most predictable and pathetic person posting on this board.
From a nurse’s eyes
I’ve been surrounded by a lot of different views of the global pandemic. I am entirely full of anger; I’ll do my best to keep all the emotions I’m personally dealing with out of these experiences and thoughts I’m about to share.
In the beginning of the pandemic, we were all scared. We didn’t know what this virus was. We didn’t know how it would affect our lives. I vividly remember the first case we thought we had in our ICU because the chest x-ray read “ground glass opacities.” We didn’t know how to protect ourselves. But time went on. Research was done as quickly as possible to figure out if it was spread via aerosolized particles, droplets, or if it was airborne. Protocols changed quickly within the hospital. Wear a mask, wear an N95… now add eye protection. Now you don’t need an N95 unless your patient is on the bipap or ventilator. Oh but now you only need an N95 if your ventilated patient has gotten an aerosolized treatment or their circuit has broken within the last 69 minutes. Things changed so rapidly because we were learning and gaining new information so quickly, while also trying to preserve resources- we weren’t prepared for this.
Now we’ve been going through this for nearly 19 months. We’ve got more N95s, more PPE, and by December 2020, we were vaccinating healthcare workers, first responders, and high risk patients. Now, you’re information overloaded. Overwhelmed by numbers, statistics, graphics of how many patients are in each hospital, and how many are covid and unvaccinated. You watch the news, you see restrictions implemented in attempts to keep others from being infected. Some see these numbers and graphics showing covid data and think we’re “trying to push an agenda.” But there’s so much more you don’t see. There’s such a limited view into the hospitals. You don’t see nurses sharing their stories, because we protect our patients’ privacy. But more and more, I’m realizing it might be our experiences that speak louder than numbers.
We do everything we can for our patients. Many patients come in short of breath, with low oxygen readings, we put them on oxygen, start medications including antivirals and steroids. But then that oxygen and medication isn’t enough. We keep turning the oxygen up, and up, and up, until we get to the point they have to wear a mask that forces air into their lungs. Soon, even that is not enough. They need to be intubated.
So Emily, RN, our charge nurse for the day, calls their family and tells them we can’t keep their oxygen up and it’s time to be intubated.
Caroline, RN hurries to the med room to grab medications to sedate and paralyze them so that our pulmonologist can intubate safely and quickly. Jessica, our respiratory therapist, grabs her RT friend Salina and they wheel in the ventilator.
Everyone dons their PPE and is ready at the patient’s bedside. Caroline pushes meds, RT handles the airway and tools necessary for intubation. Our pulmonologist intubates them. Angie, our rapid response nurse, records the events from just outside the room with the phone on speaker so she can hear inside.
After successful intubation, we put in a foley catheter, a nasogastric tube (tube in your nose or mouth down to your stomach so we can give you medications and nutrition). We get x-rays and labs. We start continuous sedation so the patient can comfortably tolerate the tube in their mouth that is anchored by a balloon in the trachea. The ventilator settings are immediately increased. When 100% oxygen isn’t keeping their oxygen levels up, we increase the pressure so that their lungs are kept open and hope for better oxygenation. Emily and Caroline hold their hand and watch the monitor hoping for their oxygen to get above 88%. When it doesn’t, the pulmonologist tells us to start the paralytic medication and flip them onto their stomach and hope that gravity helps recruit more of their lungs to oxygenate. Prone therapy is working and we are so glad to get their oxygen up into the 90s. We do this for four or five days. They’re not getting better and their blood pressure starts to drop. We start medications for this. It’s not working… their kidneys start to shut down, we start continuous dialysis.
Family comes and hangs onto every piece of hope we can offer. Each 5% decrease in the patient’s oxygen needs is a win. But it’s becoming more and more clear they won’t make it. We talk to their family- we talk about quality of life and what the patient would’ve wanted if we’d exhausted every life saving option. Their family knows they won’t want to live like this; they’ve come to realize they won’t get better. So a decision is made to turn our care from aggressive treatment to making the patient as comfortable as possible in their last hours.
Just a couple days ago, Emmy found herself taking care of Henry (name changed to protect privacy). Covid positive, unvaccinated just because he hadn’t had the time. On the ventilator, 100% oxygen. We’d tried everything. Prone, antivirals, steroids- all of it. But it was obvious he wasn’t going to recover from this. So his family came in and said their goodbyes and made the decision to make him comfortable. The family was appreciative of our care for Henry, but didn’t want to stay with him as he passed away. Respiratory therapy extubated him. Emmy, Emily, and I did what we could to make him comfortable with the morphine and ativan. Emmy held one hand, Emily had the other. I messaged the doctor back and forth to make sure we had what we needed for Henry as he took his last breaths. We stood at Henry’s bedside for minutes. We watched him take a few gasping breaths, we held his hand and turned his pillows. We made sure he wasn’t in pain. Emily and I watched tears slide down Emmy’s face and into her N95. Five minutes later, the monitor read asystole. No heartbeat. No breathing.
Henry was one of too many. Just this yesterday, we lost our patient Penny. Over the months, we’ve lost Gary, Joe, Tommy, Susan, Paulette, Chris, Carry, Richard, and so many more. (Names changed to protect privacy.)
People come to their own conclusions looking at the numbers and survival rates and brush it off. It’s not likely to affect them, so they don’t think too hard about it. Or, maybe it is too much information to process. But from my point of view, I see Henry, Susan, and Joe who didn’t deserve this.
We are so tired. Exhausted. Mentally and emotionally undone…. because we don’t see numbers. I see my patients and their family members. I see the grief and share it with them. Now, there’s a vaccine, which makes this virus preventable and/or so much more mild that patients wouldn’t need the hospital if they did get it. Some of my closest family members continue to decline to get the vaccine and I’m so frustrated and tired and angry.
I am a nurse and I will take care of my patients and be the best advocate no matter who you are or any choices you’ve made… but there’s a way to help, and that way is masking and getting the vaccine. Help us so that maybe we won’t be the one to hold your loved ones hand while they pass away. It’s an honor to be that person for these patients, but right now, it doesn’t have to be this way.
And maybe it’s not only my stories that the community needs to hear. They need to hear the stories of Kat, Sarah, Kellen, Crystal, Paige, Daniela, Katie, Kelsie, Jamie, Haley, Taylor, Sheryl, Natalie, Bre, Matt, and so many more taking care of our community during covid.

And somehow I’m the last person they’ll ever speak to while also being the person to listen to their heart beat the last time and tell their wife or husband “they’re gone.” Somehow I’m crying and grieving a person I never knew. Shouting in a dirty utility room. Putting myself in time out so I can walk into the next room while others live comfortably unaware.”

"everyone has been in a reactive catch up mode since this started."
If you believe that, you'd give Trump a break because of it. But the lefties here say he's responsible for what happened, yet Biden somehow isn't.
I don't think Trump or Biden are doing spectacularly good or bad jobs at managing the virus. I'm not sure the president of a huge, free country can do a whole lot. Unlike the lefties, I apply that standard fairly to both men, I don't cherry pick when I apply it and when I don't, based on partisan politics.
Is that so pea brained?
"in his attempt to assure the country he would get it under control"
Is he getting it more under control? Doesn't look like it to me.
wdmso 01-12-2022, 11:09 AM COVID was again the leading cause of death among U.S. law enforcement in 2021
A map included in the report indicates that COVID-19-related officer deaths were identified in 32 states, with the highest concentration in California and southern states including Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Law enforcement groups have pushed back against vaccine mandates
Leaders of some states and localities have even used the lack of a vaccine mandate as an incentive in their efforts to recruit law enforcement officers from other parts of the country.
Firearm and traffic fatalities also increased last year
it's Odd they wear body armor a seat belt ,to protect themselves But many refused to get the shot?
wdmso 01-12-2022, 11:11 AM Is he getting it more under control? Doesn't look like it to me.

NOT MANY
wdmso 01-12-2022, 11:36 AM There were 100% unvaccinated before there was a vaccine. Yet deaths aren't dropping meaningfully, even though, what, 65% are vaccinated?
Jim 99% of those dying are unvaccinated why do you keep missing that part
During the 1st wave the original we locked down during the 1st covid and many states had mask mandates all contributed in reducing Deaths over all
then when the Vaccine came out and the right railed against it and Mask mandates then delta showed and Delta was worse than and more contagious but the right kept beating the anti vax drum yet Vaccines rates increased

we see the conspiracy Like covid deaths was being inflated

Jim in CT 01-12-2022, 12:06 PM There were 100% unvaccinated before there was a vaccine.
Now omicron virus is raging 4x contagious different from Delta but the usual suspects are once again beating the anti virus Mantra saying now it look People who are vaccinated are getting covid (like it's the original ) or back to its no worse than the Flu (if your vaccinated that is) and yet again it's the unvaccinated filling the hospitals beds and Conservatives insisting its all a lie

i’m not missing anything. i agree with you that most deaths are among the unvaccinated.
but since there were no vaccinated for most of Rrumos time dealing with covid, why are deaths higher now ( when tens of millions are vaccinated) than a year ago?
if vaccines prevent the vaccine vibrates from dying, shouldnt deaths decrease after the availability of the vaccine? there were MORE unvaccinated in 2020 than in 2021. so if this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated, why did deaths increase after half of america got vaccinated?

OK, here is what you're saying...
In the first year of the virus (2020), Trump was president and the democrats controlled the house. The republicans controlled the senate. You say the deaths were trumps fault. You are saying the president owns the results. Fair enough.
In 2021, Biden is president, and the democrats control both chambers of congress. But the 2021 deaths aren't the president's fault, they are the GOPs fault.
Do you not see how stupid that is? The parties in control change, so you invert your logic so that no matter who is in control of what, bad outcomes are the GOPs fault.
Always, always, always.
Wayne, the democrats control the white house, the house and the senate. And you blame bad outcomes on the GOP?
Is there any conceivable scenario, in which you'd ever say, that a bad outcome was the democrats fault?

Poor victim, constant projection from you and yours
Your ilk that yelled “Stop the Steal”, forged documents in a literal attempt to STEAL the election.
Anytime you hear a “rise in crime” or “spike in shootings,” remember: whatever they claim, is happening despite investing the most in policing in the history of the world. A brutal indictment of the efficacy of policing. Yet police are using their pathetic failures to demand more?
The GOP spent decades building a perpetual misinformation machine that was designed to radicalize their supporters, and now some are acting surprised that the people they radicalized have taken over their party.

An August 2019 Fox News poll of registered voters found 90% of respondents favored universal background checks, 81% supported taking guns from at-risk individuals, and 67% favored banning assault weapons. According to a Pew Research Center poll, "roughly half of Americans (53%) favor stricter gun laws
Public Supports Both Early Voting And Requiring Photo ID to Vote you are correct but you are missing the rest of the story
A large majority (71%) of the public feels in-person early voting should generally be made easier. Just 16% say it should be made harder. Opinion is more divided on voting by mail – 50% say this should be made easier and 39% say it should be made harder. At the same time, fully 4 in 5 Americans (80%) support requiring voters to show photo identification in order to cast a ballot. Just 18% oppose this.
If the voting thing was just about Voter ID maybe would have a valid
Point
the GOP is AGAINST anything that increase participaction.. why they are against a having a voting holiday, drop boxes, early voting, automatic voter enrolment , mail in ballots and expanding forms of voter ID ? why not get involved in these Bill ?
we know the answer because they can't because the base can't accept losing ! SO Trump and the GOP have convinced this Base they lost because of Fraud, no Id ,drop boxes ,early voting ,mail in voting even the voting Machines are in on the Steal . and real Americans vote in person..
And many of these people who are against making voting easier. will just use doordash ... for Burger king for its convenience?

By that metric, it stands to reason that Americans would die at a higher rate from Covid than other countries because Covid deaths are mostly a result of co-morbidities, and our crappy health system results in more co-morbidities.
Or maybe it's the crappy way Americans take care of themselves, more than the health system, that is the problem.

If Americans health is overall worse than the health of those in other advanced countries, then it very much stands to reason that would be a major contributing factor of why American death rates from/with Covid would be higher than in those other countries. Disregarding that and trying to pin the blame on politics or the President is worse than merely being disingenuous.

So Manchin and Sinema didn't get donations from Democrat donors before? Did Manchin and Sinema simply decide that they'd rather get donations from Republican donors?
So the other Dem Senators only vote Dem because they get money from Dem donors?
If Manchin and Sinema really want to get more money from Repub donors, they should just switch parties.

Number of cases no longer matters, 90% of us are going to get this.
me, my wife, and three kids are all
fully vaccinated, including boosters for my wife and i.
me, my wife, and two of my kids tested positive in the last few days. feels like a moderate cold
to all of us. nowhere near as bad as the flu.
we did everything right, and 80% of us have it in my house.
case counts mean absolutely nothing, because vaccines and masks don’t prevent this strain.
deaths are all that matters.

Relax Pete. Covid is in its dying phase, slipping from pandemic phase to endemic phase. The nastier strains have pretty much disappeared, replaced by a weaker version and herd immunity is gradually being achieved to the point where it'll be like the flue. Like the flue, shots every year especially for the elderly and immune compromised.
Probably happen in time for the 2024 election, or maybe even before the 2022 midterms. So you won't have to worry about Trump or the Republicans, and we can proceed to an unlimited central governing power which can't be stopped from delivering your desired universal health care, gun control, anytime abortion on demand, unimpeded immigration illegal or otherwise, the various Marxist/Post Modern Critical Theories practiced in our commercial and public arenas, and the death of Bannon Capitalism----
The utopian Progressive merge into a war ending and universal public and private equity producing global governance.
It's all just around the corner. You will have fought the good fight and won it for the blessed sake of your children.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Staffing continues to be a top concern for Arizona hospitals.
"To me, it's the biggest thing that keeps me up at night," said Dr. Joshua LaBaer, director of ASU's Biodesign Institute. "That's the biggest scare. There are empty beds, but there's no one to staff the beds, and that's the big concern."
Mayo Clinic fires 700 unvaccinated employees, including in Arizona

Nursing shortages compounding Southern Arizona health care crisis
More than 240 jobs are open at St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s hospitals.
Northwest Health? More than 400 between its three hospitals, multiple clinics and now, a fourth hospital, Northwest Medical Center Houghton, which is scheduled to open next year.
At Banner Health’s Tucson locations there are 454 vacant posts, and more than 400 jobs are available at Tucson Medical Center.
Of these 1,500 or so openings, which include laboratory techs, radiology workers, housekeepers and other support services, the greatest number of vacancies continues by far to be for what the community needs most: nurses.
There are roughly 600 nursing vacancies in Tucson right now.
Pete F. 01-16-2022, 04:40 AM Around 1,900 deaths are being announced each day, a 50 percent increase over the last two weeks.

Their are people who have gotten Covid the original delta and omicron
And vaccinated…. You must be a rand Paul fan and his natural immunity stump speech
And this right wing taking point Mayo Clinic fires 700 unvaccinated employees, including in Arizona
That has zero to do with staging shortages. Hospitals have kept staffing at the bare minimum for decades (. Profit!) then Covid hits mass retirements across the country after the 1st Covid wave then the 2nd and NOW floods the hospitals again with patients
And conservatives suggest it’s because they fired people who wouldn’t get the vaccinated… Pay attention this issue of shortage of nurses is nation wide and it follows the infections from state to state but this time this new highly contagious variant is just infecting more people faster across the country at the same time . PS an RN can’t just become an ICU nurse or an OR nurse or maternity Nurse, some like to think that’s how it works

i don’t think the president or governors any longer have much control about keeping case counts low. the data seems to support that, as case counts are exploding all over the country.
if you disagree, that means you’re saying case counts are still in our control? if you believe that, then since cases are skyrocketing, doesn’t that mean biden is failing?
your comprehension is so bad, you’re not able to see that i was giving biden a free pass for what’s happening right now. fine. you therefore think he’s doing a miserable job.
vaccines do almost nothing to keep
people from catching the omicron variant. vaccines do help, in that they help prevent you from getting very sick.
nothing can stop case counts right now, until it fizzles out. that’s not a right wing talking point. if i was spewing partisan babble, i’d be blaming biden which i’m not.
you really, really stink at talking about this stuff.
is there any data which says the vaccines put a good dent in case counts of the omicron variant? huge numbers of vaccinated people are getting covid now. but as you’ve pointed out, they don’t often get very sick.
case counts no longer matter. almost all of us are going to get it, unless you don’t leave your house.

Essentially: “The hospitalization rate among 3x-vaccinated 80+ year olds is lower than the hospitalization rate among unvaccinated 12-29-year-olds.”

keep in mind that omicron is pretty mild for most people which is likely the biggest reason people aren't getting very sick....not sure if we can say that for healthy people it keeps them from getting very sick...there is no way to measure that....
I was listening to a public issues show this morning...apparently some of the biggest surges hospitals are now seeing are eating disorders and mental health issues....
I know some unvaxxed people that got it...it was very mild for them...that's not to say it doesn't cause problems for other folks obviously(settle down pete)
I read an article from pete's state recently that said emergency rooms there were being swamped because people were doing the at-home test, getting a positive and then racing to the emergency room, probably worried they were about to die

the entire statement
On Tuesday, EMA vaccine strategy chief Marco Cavaleri said there was still no data supporting the need for a fourth COVID vaccine dose. And even if multiple boosters do prove to be necessary, they would need to be spaced out in the style of annual flu jabs, rather than delivered every several months. He also warned that overly frequent booster doses could potentially lead to "problems with immune response."

Pete F. 01-17-2022, 01:09 PM What happens at Georgetown stays at Georgetown, I like beer was never over the line drunk and F.B.I. assistant director, Jill C. Tyson, said that the most “relevant” of the 4,500 tips the agency received during an investigation into Mr. Kavanaugh’s past were referred to White House lawyers in the Trump administration, whose handling of them remains unclear.
The letter left uncertain whether the F.B.I. itself followed up on the most compelling leads. The agency was conducting a background check rather than a criminal investigation, meaning that “the authorities, policies, and procedures used to investigate criminal matters did not apply,” the letter said.
