It was a horrible night in Fall River Sunday night. We responded to a box alarm at the Gabriel House assisted living facility to find heavy fire at the entrance and dozens of residents hanging out the windows screaming for help. We successfully rescued most residents. More than 30 were transported to one of 4 hospitals, the rest made it out safely with the exception of 9 who sadly perished. Many were brought windows and down ladders. Many windows had air conditioners in the and were screwed to the sash. We had to break the window and shove the a/c into the room before taking the person out. Long night and very emotional as well. Please say a prayer for the ones who made it out alive and for the families of the ones who didn't.

Last night a local restaurant and the Fall River Firefighters Wife Assoc. put on a fund raiser. If I didn't witness it I wouldn't have believed it. The hopes were to try to get a few hundred people though the door. It ran from 6 to 10, at 9:45 the last person entered. Close to 800 people attended. At 8 pm there were still raffle prizes being dropped off. The food donated by local establishments was nothing short of incredible. I guess the citizens of Fall River really came through for these people. Its a good feeling knowing we raised a good amount of money to help the less fortunate.
