Easier said than done - how do you determine when someone has crossed the line? Who plays Report God? One thing I have certainly learned here is that there is no hard defined line and most things are a judgement call but that would get REAL tiring to judge daily...

A pics forum is a great idea.Kinda like a bragging rights room without actually any bragging.Everybody(almost) likes to look at picture of decent fish.And if there's anything in the pic that could reveal a spot its pretty easy to edit it with Paint.

If something like that were private - it would be for all members that like a few members have suggested, reached a minimum level of posts and a minimum level of membership time. Those would be reasonable levels as well.

That's certainly not a bad idea.Access to all who meet the minumum requirements makes sense to me.

It may also strike a better balance between the "there are no secrets" camp and the "see nothing say nothing camps"

ok. i deleted my last post.. my suggestion is that you make a sticky at the top of the forum posting guidlines to follow- Ask that the report poster focus more about the fishing and less about the location- list a town, but not a location within that town.

If you ask this of those who want to post a report, i believe they will follow it.

Pictures would be great too, but anyone can post a pic attached to their report post, so why not leave the report forum the way it is and simply put a thread with guidlines.. :huh:

Yes, this has been the policy here for a long time, though less defined on the forums and it has been stickied and threaded in the past...

Of course, I'm glad when I saw you come around a while back on listing the town names instead of spots like in the early days (I used to do it too :tooth: - I think most of us have)...

Too many guys get upset when a spot is mentioned. In CT theres already one web site devoted to spot burning . I think thats enough.

I like the idea of having membership requirements, length of time or number of posts.

This would be my vote. I think everyone appreciates a well taken photo of a nice fish or pics of striper fisherman doing what they do out there.

I'd go so far as to say we need another thread discussing the possibility of a photo forum. People love to see pics of fish. Simple as that. Not sure if there would be potential bandwidth issues though.

Speaking of which I have a few pics I'd like to post right now. Needless to say, the report and location will be nothing more then "pencil popper" and "somewhere in New England..."

Uhhh, no.

Guys, I am already a part of a "members only" section of this board with the CT Surfcasters. Believe me, just because the info is more private does not equate to our members posting specific spots. It's almost like an "Omerta" code with experienced anglers these days, me included. By having the thousands of regular board members in a private area, it would not be very private IMO. As far as the reports section goes, if it saves John money, deep six it.

Hres a novel Idea John....stop ASKING and do what you feel is right. If you do option "a" you make 50% of the people mad...option "b" makes the other 50% mad.......either way someone needs to bitch.....


you run the show , do what John wants the rest of us will adjust just fine.......

John I say you can the reports section, and if someone wants to post a report let them do it in the main board for shore fishing, or if it is a boat report in the boat section. The main board gets alot of googly goop anyway.

I would discourage having any detailed report attached to the photos. Maybe even dates should be avoided. Just good fish and fishing pics.

I think that would take out a majority of the controversy.

I always have my camera with me so I've gathered a LOT of good pics over the years. I don't usually post pics though in Striper Talk or Scuppers (or anywhere for that matter) since I just feel like it's bragging putting them there. But a photo gallery without reports and details I would definitely upload a lot of images to. Mostly of other people since most of the guys I fish with are spectaculary bad at taking photos. :mad:
