Remember when the Channel was called "The Mad Hatter"?
I learned to drink there, on Wed. nights it was Drink and Drown night. 25 cents for 24 oz beer, 5 bucks to get in. but they played disco.
How about the Ark? the Dead played there ya know.

How about the Cape Cod Sweatbox Coliseum?:smash: I saw many concerts there.

I remember seeing Roomful of Blues at the living room.

Van 01-13-2003 04:39 PM

Jimbo:

I now what you mean there. Thats happened with my kids too.

They still look at me funny though when I say that Led Zepplin was the best hard rock band EVER !!!!!!

My old haunt as a budding drinker was the beach comber on
wolly beach in Quincy.

I lived only crawling distance from there, and thats how I got home most nights.

Never really saw anyone famous there though.
But John Butcher Axis played there few times.

Sorry Ben - MM yer in The Gutter

I heard that about P.T. - he said he was doing "Research for his autoboigraphy"... Prbably not the best spin to put on it...

Scotch Bonnet 01-13-2003 07:27 PM

aaahhh.........disco=chicks...........I knew there had to be something to get white guys dancing to awful music;)

Slipknot 01-13-2003 07:36 PM

mrmacey, no you're wrong I hated disco music, but I put up with it and after a few 24 oz beers the girls had an easier time dragging me up on the dancefloor. I'm one of those white men who can't dance:)

Last time I was at the Channel, I think Crystal Ship was playing.

How about Mollys' ? anyone ever go there around 1980

JohnR 01-13-2003 08:35 PM

Molly's in W.Rox or in Allston :D ? Lemme guess. You'd close Molly's then go over to Riley's Roast Beef for a Super Combo Suicide :hihi:

A little newer but the best bear selection on the East Coast might just be the Sunset Grille...

Canalratt1 01-14-2003 01:19 PM

Been to all the "ROCK" places around Boston, plus the Paradise hmm.. Joe Cocker, Tom Petty, Cars, Motels, Cheap Trick, but my favorite was Lou Reed but only if he wasn't too messed up. Ok real old place Katie's now who remembers that one.

Got Stripers 01-14-2003 04:14 PM

I can't picture Slip on a dance floor period, but one with the silver ball overhead with that snappy disco beat ringing in your ears, man I think I'm going to have nightmares tonight. Ok we need one of you photoshop wizards to put slips head on John Travolta's body, that will really complete the image....yikes.

BEETLE 01-14-2003 09:20 PM

Hmmmmm............A thought just occurred to me while enjoying this thread.........Maybe a load of 70s + 80s music to play would be in order for our party on 2/15 ??????? :btu:

Bill L 01-14-2003 09:50 PM

Beetle, as long as it aint disco, cause DISCO SUCKS!! I can tolerate it now, but that was our mantra in high school. :hihi:

Oh, the nostalgia - Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Stones, Who, Floyd; I can't even find a decent radio station now.

The sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older; shorter of breath, and one day closer to death (boy, that sounds depressing)

BEETLE 01-14-2003 10:58 PM

Ya I agree - no disco - only for the fact that i may revert back to the old days - drink too much - start dancing like a fool - at my shape and age you might have to get the EMT's with the defibrillator ! :D

Bill L 01-15-2003 06:51 AM

Dancin Fool - That reminds me, forgot ZAPPA

I agree - when I was in HS I wore the sheet kicker boots, unuttoned flanel shirts, LedZep concert Ts underneath, & "Death Before Disco" all over my school books - usually with a skull -n- dagger running thru a bleeding disco ball. Hehehe, and I thought I was being non-conformist :rollem:

Van 01-15-2003 10:24 AM
