Probably be easier to list the fish I don't like.

Bluefish (tho I'll eat a small one caught in the spring)
Mackerel
Dogfish (yeah I tried it once--probably wasn't prepared properly)
False Albacore :yak6:
Stockie trout--taste like a mouthful of dirt

Grilled bonito, tho, is a special treat  As good or better than fresh grilled tuna.

Fresh grouper or yellowtail snapper in Florida

my life is seafood [and fishing], so this thread is of great intrest to me. I can't rank the fish. Too difficult, and depends on what i am eating right now. for example, i just got back from iceland, so artic char is my number one right now, by july it will be fluke, or if I go back to alaska maybe fresh kings or halibut. Come labor day, all i can think about is lobster and steamers straight from the clambake... Last summer I was all about bluefin tuna. I sure hope that happens again. I sell/eat a lot (too much) cod, haddock, scallops, talapia, atlantic salmon, AK pollock, and shrimp, so those don't make my list.

If you are curious, this is the top 10 seafood seafood species consumed in the US, with 2004 lbs. per capita consumption:

Shrimp - 4.2
Canned Tuna - 3.3
Salmon - 2.2
AK Pollock- 1.3
Catfish - 1.1
Tilapia - .70
Crab - .63
Cod - .60
Clams - .47
Flatfish - .332

Interesting to note, 4 of the top 6 are farmed species. Wild caught species would be higher, but unfortunatley they do not have the fisheries to support them.

Does Sea Bass and Striped Bass taste the same if both are Grilled??
I've never had either Grilled. The only fish I don't care for is Clammer's
favorite, BLOOOOOOFISH!!

basswipe 02-28-2006 05:29 PM

90% of the fish I eat I catch myself.I eat fish 1-2 times a month during fishing season.I'll order fish on occasion in the off season when I eat out.

Fluke is my first choice and I always catch it as "bycatch" when striper fishing, they just seem to love those yellow/white bombers at sundown. Fluke truly is wholesome deliciousness.

scoobe 02-28-2006 07:56 PM

Favorite: fluke / flounder
Rest of the Best: halibut, mahi, swordfish, tuna, smelt, chilean sea bass (in no particular order)
Also good: salmon, tilapia, eel, catfish, shark, skate, trout, cod, tog

Tuna then bass for me. Grouper and Dolphin are good when done right, at the right places.

5 String Bass 02-28-2006 08:49 PM

1. Fresh Stripah, Baby!
2. Haddock
3. Sword
4. Salmon (sushi)
5. Red Snapper (sushi - the other pink meat)

RickBomba 02-28-2006 08:59 PM

Yup,
I'd agree with Mike, I don't really like salmon, bluefish or mackeral...everything else I'd eat every day if I could get it fresh!!!
Don't really like frozen finfish!
Later,
Rick

Skate wings in a brown butter sauce is a classic french bistro dish. Making scallops out of skate wings is an urban legend. If you have ever looked at a skate wing you would know why.

RI Popper 03-01-2006 12:01 PM

Haddock
Black Seabass
Fluke
Mahi
Wolf Fish
Cod
Mako
Tuna
Striper
Pollock

Rotate them around a little and it's all good :)

likwid 03-01-2006 03:40 PM

If you're gonna list sword, make sure to list thresher, because thats what you're eating 1/4 of the time and you don't even know it. :kewl:
