I think pix and nothing else would solve most problems.
Putting up a "Rule" sticky won't do squat IMO. Who follows rules? Not many. Just pix, no words. |

Of course, I'm glad when I saw you come around a while back on listing the town names instead of spots like in the early days (I used to do it too :tooth: - I think most of us have)... |

Too many guys get upset when a spot is mentioned. In CT theres already one web site devoted to spot burning . I think thats enough.

I like the idea of having membership requirements, length of time or number of posts.

This would be my vote. I think everyone appreciates a well taken photo of a nice fish or pics of striper fisherman doing what they do out there. I'd go so far as to say we need another thread discussing the possibility of a photo forum. People love to see pics of fish. Simple as that. Not sure if there would be potential bandwidth issues though. Speaking of which I have a few pics I'd like to post right now. Needless to say, the report and location will be nothing more then "pencil popper" and "somewhere in New England..." |

Guys, I am already a part of a "members only" section of this board with the CT Surfcasters. Believe me, just because the info is more private does not equate to our members posting specific spots. It's almost like an "Omerta" code with experienced anglers these days, me included. By having the thousands of regular board members in a private area, it would not be very private IMO. As far as the reports section goes, if it saves John money, deep six it.

Hres a novel Idea John....stop ASKING and do what you feel is right. If you do option "a" you make 50% of the people mad...option "b" makes the other 50% mad.......either way someone needs to bitch.....
you run the show , do what John wants the rest of us will adjust just fine....... people lighten up its fishing not a life threatening choice. I say if there are not that many reports to begin with we can sqeeze it in the main page, no? why waste extra space and time??? |
Why have a reports section if anyone who dares post a report is ripped apart for being a spot burner?
A photo forum is a good idea though.... |
How about we only burn spots in Rhode Island, everyone else does anyways. Any one looking for fish..........try the Atlantic.
|
Thanks Jenn - space is not really the issue..

Now, if we have a photo gallery system, is everyone going to promise to place nice and not harrass someone when they put up a picture :tooth: ?? |
John I say you can the reports section, and if someone wants to post a report let them do it in the main board for shore fishing, or if it is a boat report in the boat section. The main board gets alot of googly goop anyway.

I think that would take out a majority of the controversy. I always have my camera with me so I've gathered a LOT of good pics over the years. I don't usually post pics though in Striper Talk or Scuppers (or anywhere for that matter) since I just feel like it's bragging putting them there. But a photo gallery without reports and details I would definitely upload a lot of images to. Mostly of other people since most of the guys I fish with are spectaculary bad at taking photos. |

Nix the reports and if someone wants to post a pic of a trophy fish go for it.
there is nothing that really gets under my skin than seeing the spots I fish. posted on the internet. with all the report whores out there that just lurk and wait to see where fish are being caught. there is just nothing good that comes from it. |
Oddly enough Dangles, yes sometimes I do what I please, I put an awful lot of work into this, and awful lot of my time which I don't really get back financially. I get it back in enjoyment and commraderie and chances to fish with people and places I otherwise would not - it can be very rewarding.
I'm getting tired of your deconstructive desite to stir the pot for grins and giggles at others expense. I have been asked previously by more than a couple long time members here why I continue to put up with your crap and why I keep you onboard. Well, I guess it is time I listened, goodbye... |
Ouch.
Well thats to bad I found him entertaining. Some times over the line. I guess i should Pay attention. I like the reports but i never make it down to the report section. It's funny some of the people i see saying they don't like reports are the same ones I remember holding fish up in threads they started talkin bout how good the fishing was. i guess thats different. |

Kill it! You know that it has caused nothing but 'wars" for a couple of years. No purpose in it. I think that everyone should find their own fish anyway. Also, IMO, what is the true value of the reports? The fish have fins and are usually (not always, but usually) gone by the time anyone has time to get there. |
kill it
I say kill it, just causes wars as does mentioning a spot
I like the idea of a pic area |
