update.....on the stone deal

the xray today confirmed that it hasn't passed
so on the 18th i go back to the hospital
to have it smashed :smash: with a proceedure.

had the bend over prostate exam today
and the prostate is small and normal..
and as the Doc said....with that...
i am blessed. (thank god)

after that it's the butt :bshake:camera trick.

these hospitals with all their technology
geeeesch.... it never ends.

Karl F 10-11-2006 09:34 PM

Raven, smile for the colon nurse :D
I hope you are treated, as nicely as I was today.
The staff where I went , was first rate. :uhuh:
Best of luck!

teaser 10-11-2006 10:04 PM

Raven,

When you say "to the hospital to have it smashed" are you saying their going to hit it with sound waves to try and break it up or are you going in for surgery to have it balsted with the laser?

Raven 10-12-2006 06:00 AM

sound waves

lithotripsy.....is the proceedure.... teaser.

jklett 10-12-2006 08:37 PM

Lithotripsy only has a 70% chance of working unless the stone is still in your kidney, then it's almost 100% effective. I have to bring my kid in for another x-ray to see if it's moved at all since last week. It hadn't a week after her first treatment, and it looks like she'll need a second shock. The stone is in her ureter and blocking the flow from her kidney so she has a nephrostomy bag in place to drain it. I'm not trying to hijack your post, I'm just letting you know that we're going through the same thing here and I'm pulling for you to get through this quickly as I can see how it's effecting my daughter and nobody should have to go through that kind of pain for that long. Good luck and a speedy recovery to you.

teaser 10-12-2006 10:38 PM

Get her some tramadol too. I think Raven's doing better with it, what do ya think Raven ... working okay?

Raven 10-16-2006 05:32 AM

yeah it worked fine

and it got me off the damned percasets....

which for me<- anyways .....is like being stumbling drunk...

i don't like them,(percs) but they are preferable to the pain...

funny thing ..tramadol is a pain killer...
but it doesn't act like a narcotic does. (correction) i'm still learning.

and thanks jklett .... yeah, the stone is still in my kidney,,,
first time (last april was an overnight affair) i had no idea what it was
this time it was a week long battle....

Raven 10-16-2006 05:37 AM

urologist

he gives me this collaspsing funnel thingy with a filter screen
in the bottom.....right...

for collecting a passing stone... for examination later...

what a pure piece of junk....it falls apart ...:hs:

Raven 10-16-2006 05:43 AM

and...sad to say

jklett ....but your kiddo has to drop chocolate... completely

if shes a stone former....

teaser 10-16-2006 01:00 PM

Raven.

You got that right about the collapsing funnel, total pain in the @$$.

Do what I did after about 1 hour of using the funnel, throw it away and get a clear bottle so you can see anything inside. Just rinse out after use and your good to go, also no mess using a bottle compared to the screen.

With the bottle you not only save the stone(s) but you also have a urine sample ready for the lab techs.

Chocolate is definately a no no as well as soda, but not off the list for life, just use it in moderation.

Raven 10-16-2006 07:40 PM

i got two

hospital issued bed side pee bottles.... yep... much easier...

jklett 10-16-2006 08:02 PM

The chocolate and soda thing I have no problem with(we limit that stuff as it is), it's the no spinach and nuts that bothers me. She doesn't eat meat(except for chicken) and gets a lot of her protien from nuts and peanut butter. And unlike most kids, she loves spinach. She saw a nephrologist(sp?) today and she's going to help work out a diet plan as soon as they know exactly what caused the stone.

As to the POS collapsible cup, see if they won't give you a regular funnel with the screen. We got one for home and one for school from the urologist just by asking. If all else fails, you could always line a regular funnel with cheesecloth or something like it to catch the stone.

Since the stone is in your kidney still, the lithotripsy should do the trick on the first shot:kewl: . She's going for her second blast on Wednesday morning and they sounded pretty confident about it this time. At least it has moved some since the first treatment. Unfortunately no dice on the Tramadol, the doc said nothing stronger than tylenol since she's so small(only 48#). Nothing worse than seeing your kid in so much pain and not being able to help her feel better:wall:. I hope you get better soon. I know the whole ordeal has taken at least 10 years off my life and I'm not even the one with the stone. Keep us up to date on what's going on, I've been telling my kid that someone else is going through the same thing as she is and it seems to help her feel better knowing she's not alone with it. She sends her wishes for a speedy recovery.

teaser 10-16-2006 10:00 PM

jklett,

Tell you're little one we're all pulling for her and wishing her success on the next try for the stone, there'll be a little something extra in the prayers tonight for her to get a little pain relief from above.

She sounds pretty tough for a little one, just tell her that yes it hurts alot right now but just think how good its going to feel once its out.

Tight lines and prayers.

Raven 10-17-2006 06:41 AM

jklett

thank your sweet daughter for me....for her get well wish and tell her i sent her a get well soon hug....from Raven, she sounds so sweet...
48 pounds... wow... she's quite young....yeah!....for tramadol, even in a reduced dosage for children....so thats tough... hopefully she love's Orange juice . unfortunately Nuts are one of those foods that are high in oxalate so she needs to expand her protien choices beyond chicken somehow.

maybe the nutritionist.....can suggest a protien powder to mix with yogurt as a supplimental source of protien. Also remind your daughter
that she has taste buds on her tounge that are completely replaced
every 7 years so that her taste preferences will change as she gets older. One of the fun things about life is experimenting with different foods to see if you might like them when prepared in different ways.

i did by the way get some nifty funnels from the nurse yesterday after going to the outpatient pre -testing for blood work.

Raven 10-19-2006 06:21 AM

everything went smooth

i had a super.... nice looking nurse...
a fun time... actually .... kidding
around with the doctors and nurses....hahahaha

i was telling the anesthesiologist (sp  )
that i sometimes wake up combative....afterwards
and he just chuckles...and says:

well then make sure ya punch ole doc kraus
right in the head and knock him out....:faga:

jklett 10-24-2006 01:56 PM

How did everything go? Did they get the stone? Are you feeling better?

My daughter's stone is finally gone! They took out the nephrostomy tube today and the hole should heal up in about a week and she'll be good as new! We have a good pediatric nephrologist that she's seeing and she'll work out a plan to try and prevent any more stones from forming. Our lives can finally start to get back to normal here.

Raven 10-24-2006 02:15 PM

it's been painful....but tolerable.

that sonic sound stuff: really beats you up...man...:eek5:

everything was real sore internally...not bruised
but close to it...actually the stone had dropped into my bladder
and thus far not much of any fragmented pieces have been collected.:wall:

today: i busted ass in the garden getting ready for the final
roto till....
and i have several bushells of potatoes to dig up next.

she can have red potatoes but not the white...i've read.
and thats for me as well. I bought 5 pounds of carrots to
juice ...and that beta caroteen really delivers some healing
power to your whole system.

i haven't taken any medication now for two days
to clean out my system. i'm slowly regaining my strength.

chris L 10-24-2006 03:40 PM

too much to read . but the # one reason for kidney stones is dehydration . drink 2 liters of water daily and you may not ever get another . Although 50 percent have return bouts with stones . I just got over a bout myself in August . 1 small stone that hung up half way out . I doubled over after standing up to plug my laptop into one of our network switches then it was 3 days to pass the damn thing . I have had many things happen in my life also that have caused much pain but nothing like this . I litteraly crawled into my house . good thing my new truck is an auto , If it was a standard I never would have made it home . 911 would have been called and then brought me to the hospital .

Raven 10-24-2006 04:35 PM

F that

i'd rather drink 2 liters of BEER than be constantly
peeing all damn day from drinkin that much water.
i tried that ....and i had to pee every 20 minutes...

in fact: now that i think of it... time for an ale.

you should learn to speed read...:kewl:

chris L 10-25-2006 08:27 AM

my eyes dont move fast enough or my brain cant function any faster . drinking beer dehydrates you even more .

Karl F 10-25-2006 08:53 AM

2 liters = half gallon.. my wifes aunt is a nutritionist, and insits, that OJ, lemonade, tea etc. don't count as drinking water, as it introduces other things you need straight water to flush out of the system..my doc is kinda on the same page... he told me to shoot for a gallon and a half (!) a day..(6 liters).. so.. i usually consume a gallon, or a little more, of straight H20... per day... I crack up the guys at work... I tell them I drink "Chateau Pissalot"......;)
