For the record though I have never seen so many SeaCrafts as I have out in Cape Cod Bay. While fishing there 2 weeks ago I counted over 20 23 fters and 5-6 20's. Mind you this was when the 25-30 not NE wind was blowing and I saw all of the 23's of of Billingsgate.

They are sharp looking boats and the ride....well you really have to go for a ride in one to understand.

THERE's a little # down there that looks like she just had the covers pulled off, not a blem anywhere. I think she's a 6 i/o, sits to high in the water for a v8 , came over from martha's, know the man who owns her...........just waitin an then I'll pounce on it like mung to a fishin line.

Regarding those seacrafts down at Outermost, the blue one (blue goose) is a 19 but there is a red one(soltice) right across that's a 20 both owned by a friends of mine. The two of them take those bad larry's out in some hairy stuff. Steve you must be talking about that 23' that doesn't have a ttop or anything on it. Tell me what you think about that 23' with the funky center console ttop with a little eagles nest...

Worker dies at salvage scene
A state employee trying to help with a grounded fishing boat in Chatham is fatally stricken.

CHATHAM - A state worker was fatally stricken yesterday while he was trying to assist a grounded fishing vessel on South Beach.

The victim, whose identity was being withheld last night until police could notify his family, worked with the state Department of Environmental Protection.

He was driving a department vehicle when the four-wheel drive Suburban suddenly veered into the surf at about 6:15 p.m. yesterday.

Chatham firefighters, who were leading the worker to the stranded boat, along with Harbor Master Stuart Smith, pulled him from the vehicle. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Smith said in a interview from the beach that one moment the state truck was following the fire department vehicle, and the next minute it was in the water. He said at one point the state truck had surf crashing over its roof. The incident happened as the tide still had more than two hours to drop, giving workers a chance to pull the vehicle free before high tide returned.

The tide also aided efforts to pump an estimated 200 gallons of diesel fuel from the No Worries, a 40-foot boat, which grounded on the ocean side of South Beach Friday.

Vessel owner David Stein, who could not be reached for comment yesterday, had been unable to get any of the fuel pumped off the boat after it grounded Friday.

That is what Smith, assisted by contractors from Clean Harbors, intended to do last night, to avoid environmental damage from a spill.

The wreckage of the fishing boat was starting to break up in the heavy surf, Smith said.

Observing the operation were officers from the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Office Cape Cod Field Office.

MSO investigators want to know why the boat started taking on water Friday, which is why Stein, who was believed to be operating, intentionally beached the vessel, Smith said.

The harbor master said the owner, or his insurance company, will be responsible for the removal and any related cleanup costs, which could be between $10,000 to $15,000.

So far, Smith said, there had not been any serious environmental problems related to the stranded vessel which is on the ocean side of South Beach, roughly four miles south of Chatham Light.

Absolute shame about the fatality. I was out there yesterday about 50 yards off south beach around 6pm, pretty crazy site. The captain had taken absolutely everything off the boat including the entire superstructure. Gotta respect the power of the ocean.

Actually, just shortly before they sold. They couldn't keep me busy in the winter months so when I got offered a steady job with benefits off cape I had to take it. Used to stop in a lot when they still owned it though. Some of my best memories of the place are from before the break back when there was still a big mooring field at Andrew Hardings and we could sail (and powerboat) from Outermost all the way to Pleasent Bay. One day on a light steady west wind the owners son and I had a hobie 16 flying a hull (with him on the wire) from the weather dome past ministers point in one straight tack.

I guess they call those the old days now, when north beach was 11 miles long ,what a place ta fish . You could take an hour going down to the point an 10 min. back at low water doin 60 in the truck. thats when the bay was full of life [fish] gone now are those days of great:(

That's pretty cool, what are the chances of that breakin' through in the next decade and shutting off OM? Back in the day there used to be alot more character to the place, now it's like driving into one of those new housing developments with cookie cutter houses. Welcome to Grady White Village. Tom and Linda used to treat people well down there. As soon as they sold it, Frank said that he wouldn't renew our slip unless we bought a Grady White from him. Ended up selling the regulator and had to drop out of the game for a year. Got back into it though 2 years ago going the boat by trailer route. Are you friendly with the Hemmindingers and Rydells at all?

Hey Steve, now that commerical season is over do you do the tuna dance with the rest of the mosquitos?

Know their faces well but I can't say I know them really other than from seeing them come and go. Agree on the character being gone for sure. I was talking to a guy in town this spring who told me he had been on Tom & Linda's waiting list and stopped in after the buyout and was floored to find out the new owners threw the waiting list out the window. As you mentioned the only way in now is to plunk down a huge wade of cash on a Grady.
