Please let me know if I am mistaken, maybe there is some sort of error on the RISSA newsletter? Did RIDEM go to far, I mean arrest somebody for 4 fish, maybe it is a bit overkill...

Hehehe - the only "Legacy Place" in East Dedham was the Old Mill Cafe or Bussey St Market - both closed :smash:

It just seems to me by your persistance on this thread that this matter has really affected you personally. Rather than continue to fuel rumors, and accusations on the INTERNET you should give him a call and discuss the matters. Maybe it will give you some closure.

Exactly. He was arrested for poaching. They documented and posted it. You decided to include it in your sermon and add comments that cannot be taken as fact. It certainly would be interesting to know the full story since he is an accomplished angler in our sport, but I certainly won't take anything an internet crusader tells me as truth simply because he says he has sources. Bassballer hit the nail on the head, you are personally affected by all of this for some reason. What's your angle broseph?

Sad to see a young man with a reputation as a good fisherman exposed as someone who lacks respect for the resource and other fishermen. The size of the fine seems unlikely to change his attitude as well. Some negative publicity and peer disapproval doesn't strike me as undeserved in a case like this.

I have no angle, have nothing to benefit... Just curious as to why this was kept so quiet, after all this is the first person caught under the new poaching law in RI correct? I understand many of those that have fished with him will pile on me here since Robbie is a real good guy and "got caught with his hand in the jar".

We all poach at some time in our fishing careers. Most of us just don't get caught.

You have to be out of your mind, Who is willing to go to jail for $2 a pound???

Assembly enacts stiff penalties for striped bass poaching

STATE HOUSE – Poachers beware: Rhode Island has new, stiffer penalties for those who catch more than the legal limit on striped bass, or try to bag those that are too small.
Under a bill passed by the General Assembly that has now been signed into law, the fine for violating striper limits in Rhode Island will increase substantially, and those caught could face prison sentences of up to 90 days as well as forfeiture of their boat and fishing equipment.
According to the sponsors of the new law, Rep. Peter G. Palumbo and Sen. Michael J. McCaffrey, the move brings the striper penalties in line with those for violating other game limits, and aimed at preventing poachers – whether fishing commercially or recreationally – from skirting limits for their own profit at the peril of the striper population.
“Striped bass are large, valuable saltwater fish, and there’s money to be made by those who catch them. And that’s good for Rhode Island, as long as people abide by the limits that are imposed to sustain the population,” said Representative Palumbo (D-Dist. 16, Cranston). “But the penalties we’ve had for stripers really aren’t a deterrent for those who want to ignore the rules and make a few bucks. Stripers are worth enough so that people are willing to risk getting caught.”
Under the new law (2011-H 5693, 2011-S 0972), which takes effect immediately, penalties for violating the limits on stripers will be at least $100 for each striped bass taken, possessed, or offered for sale, imprisonment for up to 90 days, or both. For the second violation, the jail time is the same, but the fines increase to at least $200 per fish, the state could seize any boat, fishing tackle or other implements used in violation of the law. And for third and subsequent offenses, the fine increases to at least $500 per fish in addition the 90-days jail sentence and forfeiture of the equipment used.
Previously, state law allowed a fine of only $50 per fish taken in violation, as well as a one-year suspension of the trap license of the person, firm or corporation involved.
Current recreational fishing limits on striped bass allow a person to catch up to two a day, and each has to be at least 28 inches long. For commercial licensees, the limit is 30 inches, although striped bass as small as 26 inches are allowed to be taken from floating traps, and there are further quotas and seasons.
The sponsors say the law isn’t aimed at the recreational fisherman who might unwittingly take home a fish that’s a bit too small; it’s meant to give the state a tool to shut down those who habitually flout the regulations, and to give those violators a strong incentive to stop breaking the law.
“The penalties for violating the striped bass limits need to be high because the market is such that a minor fine isn’t going to serve as a disincentive. For the health of our fisheries and the sake of sustaining the striped bass population for everyone for recreation and commercial uses, Rhode Island needs to deal seriously with poachers,” said Senator McCaffrey (D-Dist. 29, Warwick).

I don't think we all have kept multiple large fish for illegal profit, although that may be an accepted mindset in some areas among some groups. It is a mindset that deserves to be stoned.

I'm not talking for profit. I am just saying that if there is one person on this site that has never taken a short fish , FOR WHATEVER REASON, or kept an extra fish for the cookout , then I don't believe them.

Ken is right,he is a good guy that did something wrong. I think if it were somebody who has a reputation as an a-hole there would be an internet pigpile. Ken just wanted to point it out to further tarnish the reputation of somebody he doesn't know and that is how Ken likes to roll. The only crime in Kens book that matters is the team he fished for in the past. I am sure some of his weasels from CT. pointed him in the right direction and said go get him. The scary part is this douche is a cop, which explains the rah rah disorder. So now Ken is satisfied because he threw some shat at the wall and some of it stuck.Trust me,the jealous weasels who made sure Ken knew about this have an inferiority complex as well as Ken.Poachers do so at their own risk and certainly nobody sympathises when they are caught. But to sensationalize the allegations like Kenny felt compelled to do is immature at best.If the shoe were on the other foot and this was Kenny, this thread would be 10 pages because he is univerally disliked by the fishing community. He knows this and seems to relish being the villain.I'm sure he is upset by the lack of participation. Ken, go enjoy your family, they love you.
