If you read it they took there limit and no more.......

Liv2Fish 07-28-2012 07:55 PM

If you poke around the site, there is an infomercial for what you get if you join (for a fee). Detailed specific location information, marked up google maps of the canal and CC Bay! First month is $1.

So for a buck, he's willing to whore out the exact details of what some of us have spent many years and thousands of $$$ to learn. :fury:

This is the kind of crap that has made the canal such a siht hole of a place to fish.

afterhours 07-28-2012 07:59 PM

yup legal com limit....30 fish per day

inTHERAPY 07-28-2012 08:04 PM

reads like a good time to me. isn't catching like that what we all strive to do? I didn't say taking all, i said catching. i never leave the dock and say " boy I hope i only catch 3 fish today! " It's called COMMERCIAL FISHING and LEGAL.

love it when someone makes a profit selling something we all do for recreation (it IS all legal, I know..... just burns my @ss a little)

tysdad115 07-28-2012 08:29 PM

I dont know the limits, thats why I asked if there was a limit. 30 fish per day seems strong to me LEGAL or not. Its COMMERCIAL and in my opinion is EXCESSIVE. Didnt say I was against COMMERCIAL fishing but that seems SENSELESS killing all those fish.

Piscator 07-28-2012 08:53 PM

30 fish limit 34" or larger on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday only until the quota is hit. Sunday the limit is 5 fish 34" or larger. Monday, Friday & Saturday commercial is closed.

This is so true.. This has the late 70's-early 80's written all over it. The entire east coast THANKS YOU...

Sea Dangles 07-29-2012 07:10 AM

With a quota to fill this has zero impact on the fishery.

afterhours 07-29-2012 07:47 AM

chris, i know i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer...but how can the removal 1,057,783 pounds of prime size breeding stock have zero impact on the fishery? that said i'm all for cutting rec take in half and to try to stop all the recs backdooring striped bass on the black market. we as people seem to have our heads buried in the sand and wallets. i know it sounds like blah, blah, blah, to most of you guys, but many of us older guys haved seen what can happen....and is happening again. oh yeah this time we also have mycobacteriosis to deal with.

beamie 07-29-2012 07:59 AM

Nice morning, a few thousand dollars worth of fish there.

The only problem I don't like is the care for the fish, only 2 small coolers that maybe held 7 fish each. If your selling fish it should be treated as if you were going to eat it yourself i.e. after catch put them in the cooler on ice, not sun drying. Need more or bigger coolers.

True enough....if they didn't catch them, someone else would.

I do get a laugh about statements like this :

"Aside form the economics I really enjoy the feeling of providing a high quality, locally caught food for families all along the eastern seaboard. There’s something really “Cape Coddish” there."

What a crock....people do it for the MONEY, and in the case of Stripers some do it for the entertainment.

Half the fish is probably ground up for animal feed, and the other half goes to expensive restaurants and fish markets that cater to those that can afford 15 to 20$ a pound fish.
After it goes through a few hands and everyone makes a buck.

He'd do the same thing if the fish were frozen and sent to China.

It's business, no need to rationalize it.

A legal activity where a guy can make a buck.

The whole argument that it's some kind of public service is laughable.

Go back to 2006 regulation levels - commercial and recreational - and then cut back 33%. No exceptions, not special cases, no historical fisheries. Stop kicking the can down the road.

I'd agree it was a good day at the office but something still doesn't seem right to me...it's like there's some guilt behind those words. Tough to read people through the interwebs though.

Basing your decisions and actions on what the government approves of can be a recipe for disaster at times.

The angler didn't establish the quota Don. And comm season doesn't close until the quota is met. With this in mind perhaps there should not even be a limit for 30 fish, why not make it as many as you can get until the quota is filled.

I guess my point is that the disapproval should be with those who establish the quota and not with the angler making a buck while having fun. As was said,if he doesn't catch them somebody else will. Thus the zero impact.

As far as coolers or lack thereof;a couple hours in the sun is just fine for bass. These are not tuna.

afterhours 07-29-2012 10:38 AM

your point is well taken chris. i don't have a problem with the anglers themselves- it the regs set by the govt agencies and the agencies themselves that i have a problem with.

jonserfish 07-29-2012 10:47 AM

I just want some gps numbers
:uhuh:
I bet I might have a shot in a pond like that one!
No fish in my pond

Hi Guys,

I hope you are having a nice weekend.

I just wanted to say that I respect and understand all the different opinions, perspectives and beliefs voiced throughout this thread.

I will certainly give some thought and consideration to all your comments. We all have a right to our own beliefs and opinions, which is of course A-OK with me.

Best of luck guys and enjoy the rest of your 2012 fishing season.

Take care,

Um what?

Fishing the Canal is easy, no one needs a map... all you need is a tide chart and a pencil popper. There are articles detailing how to read the Canal chart dating back to the 1970s and there were probably many more before that.

No one person or one service made the Canal what it is...

WE DID IT... these message boards did it (They do a lot of great things too don't get me wrong :uhuh:) but I know several guys in New Jersey who have Canal bikes... and I know they didn't buy a map, they read the boards, got hungry, read an article or two and went to take their piece of the pie. It's fisherman ego that ruins every spot because too many people can't quietly enjoy a good day of fishing--they have to shout it from the rooftops, puff out their chests at every tackle shop they see on the way home, post it on Facebook and, amid the flames and daggers, post it on a board like this one. It's one of the markers of our times. And when you look it, of course the Canal is a good place to fish, it's the biggest fish funnel on the east coast...

X2

If one half the people that claimed to be heavy conservationists made comment on many of the addendum's and legislation that is put in front of us. A lot more would get done.

Regardless it's recreational anglers expect to take fish away from commercial anglers they have to show they're willing to cut back as well.

Jenn 07-29-2012 04:40 PM

Oh here we go again!

I hope that no one that has a problem with commercial fishing has ever eaten a wild ramp in a fancy restaurant because I cant find a one in the woods to bring home to my dinner table.

I have said it before and I will say it again if you fish and catch stripers YOU ARE HAVING AN IMPACT ON THE FISHERY in some way shape and form! Even if you are a "catch and release" holy roller!

congrats to the angler. don't blame him for the way the laws are. Maybe if more pics of boat loads of dead fish were put out there than it would motivate more people to get involved with changing the laws. Until then I will just wonder why I don't run into schools like that as I fish same area and see him often out there.
