Oh, to be that 13 yr old :p
|
Hahahaha, the time of the beginning of our puberty. And a full of dorky and embarassing memories of our pre-adolescence....:( I remembered how my father tried to teach me about sex education...It was very hilarious and he got pissed.:o
|
Drunk ?!!
|
No, he couldn't explain it to me.
|
details details.......
|
YUP!!
I was at the tackleshop where it was weighed in and yes its true
61.20lbs 49". What a fish!!! No details to tell ya except it was caught from a boat with a rod and reel!! And yes it was the first striper caught by the 10yr old. Russ |

WOW.......wonder how much the kid weighed!!!!!!
|
Forget the 50's?????????????? huh
|
Ya know, what a second here....49" and 61 lbs?....that thing must have been a football........I've gotten one at 48" and it was only 36 lbs....and THAT one had a big belly on it.......
Not saying it's not for real, but...... |

The fish always go to the fishermen:D |
It does sound a little short for its weight...but not impossible:
http://www.stripersurf.com/ageweight.html My 58#'er was 53" long....it "should have" weighed 68# from the chart. I would rather have an overweight fish then a starving one. |
Crap!!! what a lucky kid!!! his father must have been crapping in his pants, seeing his own kid outdo him...
That kid will forever remember his first striper, that's for sure. Congrats to that kid, if he ever sees tis post!!!!   |

Using the Girth x Girth x Lenght / 800 method shows the fish at 70#s so for it to be 61 is certainly reasonable. I lifted this fish myself and can attest to it's size... |
I don't deny it...a 61 is a monster...no matter what the dimensions!
|
I wonder if its the 66 I heard about, and its just gained a few lbs in the news traveling? That kid is ruined for life now, unless he starts fishing for shark or tuna. Killer catch though;)
|
Measurements don't surprise me......
Most of the giants are always going to be abnormal fish. Think about it....if you're an alien fishing for big humans with cheeseburgers as bait, you're not going to win the tournament catching the 35 year old guy who might still go to the gym a few times a week and buys his cloths off the rack at the department store. You're going to win catching the obscenely huge slob who buys his cloths from some obscure website for abnormally large people. Same goes for stripers......the really big ones will rarely have the same proportions as the overall sample size. |
i like that analogy blitz.
man, that's one lucky kid. |
Are there any pics anywhere?...
Where in Rhody?... |
Pics?
Don,
Pics were taken that day at the bait shop but I havent been there since so I dont know if they have been developed and posted yet? I can also confirm that this fish was 61.20 lbs. Weighed on certified digital scale that all the RISAA members weigh there fish with. If you saw the belly on this fish you wouldnt even ? her weight. Not to mention the size of her head! Russ |
Another lucky kid
From Ctfisherman, apologies if it is a repeat. Dave
I mated today for Captain Scott Anderson on the Kingfisher out of Noank. We had a group of guys from long Island who wanted to catch some light tackle stripers. We grabbed some Hickory shad for bait and ran over to the Watch Hill Reefs. We Three-wayed the shad with 3 oz. sinkers in about 30 feet of water. Every single fish they caught was HUGE. The biggest striper measured 54 inches and weighed in at 55lbs It was caught by a 12 year old kid Whats amazing is we also caught a 52inch 50.5lb fish earlier. We also had a 40lbder and a 42lbder. There were some fish also that looked to be over 30lbs that we didn't weigh. I have never seen a day like this. Capt. Scott really has some great spots and great techniques. What kind of irked me was I have been fishing for 20 years and this kid who had only been fishing once before landed that big fish Another thing thats really scary is we broke off two fish that were even bigger .... Maybe , Scott can post some pictures. I'm tired! Mike |
