My Lathe is on the way, Now What?

I couldn't resist. I was going to take it slow but, . . . oh well.

I have no idea what I'm getting into here. Could someone point me in the right direction. What kind of wood should I start with?

I need supplies! I don't know what to start with or where I can get them.

Steps? I've done some research with the search utility, but I'm still confused. Basic steps for a beginner. I'll take a pass . . .

1. Drill wood
2. Turn wood
3. Seal wood
4. prime
5. paint
6. finish
????????

Please HELP! I need some new needles ASAP! :)

Bigfish, I'm at work right now. In your neck of the woods, Abington.

Was gonna see if you wanted to stop by earlier and I could give you a hand showing you some stuff but I am headed out now.....pm me your phone number and maybe you can swing by some afternoon next week for a little instructional from a guy who just started out himself but found his way pretty well! ;) Let me know!:D

you'll be needing about $1000 to start since the supplies you'll want to buy are cheaper in bulk. By the time you're done with a few batches of plugs you'll figure out that it has cost you about 30 bucks per plug, not bad once you catch a fish on one of your own creations and had fun making them.

Good luck

another one bites the dust

BigFish - PM sent. I look forward to the demo!

As for supplies . . . maybe I could organize a group bulk shipment. Anyone interested? A grand on supplies is a little steep right now.

I justified the lathe by returning my recycleable cans for the last three years. It'll take me 10 years of can returns to justify all those supplies. There must be another way!

the search feature here may help you with sources for all the stuff you need
