As some of you know I had 2 lathes and was going to combine the 2 moneywise to buy a new Delta. Well I came across a used Jet 12" lathe and went with that. Plus I got to keep some of the extra money in my pocket from the sale of other 2. First problem is that I wanted to mount the duplicator on the rear as the small Delta was. Well with the Jet lathe the motor sticks out beyond the headstock on the back side. So the guys at Woodcraft suggested a morse taper extension. Then they informed me that they don't carry them. :( I went into W T Tools and they had what I was looking for :)

Next problem is that I wanted to use my templates and the delta was made to duplicate from original turnings . Or I would have to make all new templates. Not something I was remotely looking forward to. So I bought some aluminum stock and went to work. Here is what I came up with. I also kept the vega midi cutter and used it on the delta so that helps too. ( The delta comes with a HSS cutter and there is no comparison.)

A few bolts some rivets ( since I don't mig weld), 4 thumb screws (to hold the template) and I'm ready to go.

I have the same duplicator, Its pretty nice :D Did you say you mounted it to the BACK of the lathe? If thats the case dont you have to reach over the turning stock to run the duplicator?

Id like a few close-ups (if possable) or that templare holder you made. Usually I turn one origional by eye and then when Im happy with it use it for the master. It would be nice to be able to use some plexiglass templates.

I just walk around to the other side:D

For the past 2 days I've been trying to figure out a way to work both sides of my lathe so I could make a duplicator jig. The motor is on the back and in the way just as yours was. Looks like the extension takes care of that problem! :)

Can you tell me where W T Tools is located ??

#4 is critical if you want to run the cutter down to end of plug blank (like for a danny) I cut half ot the bolt head to allow the carraige to run by

And lastly the cutter must be turned upside down at centerline or just a touch below

Well you answered all my questons :) I was going to ask if the cutter was turned upside down because of the rotational direction of the lathe.
