Who's building what?

Seems real slow around all the building forums anymore. This place is usually alive with lots of interesting threads around this time of year. Here's what I have started and hopefully will add to by plugfest.

I've been playing with a version of this one for a long time and have used different line ties head/lip shapes and weighting. They all something I like and don't like about them so I kind of just keep trying with them. I have always wanted to build a smaller one and finally did late last year. It was a great plug for largemouth for both my son and myself. I am trying an even smaller one this year.

Some of the older ones I've done finished out with different lips, line ties and shapes.

Some needles that half will get spinner blade flap tails on. The flaptails have outfished the plain needles for me by a big margin.

Some big and small handcarved swimmers.

Some balsa crankbaits for large and smallmouth bass.

And finally some small top waters. I always try to do something new each year and these have been on my to do list for a while. I need to make some bigger ones of these as well. Really liking these.

You always produce such nice, clean, distinctive work.

Finally time to turn a few

Lifes been a wirlwind since before Thanks giving... ..Early ice had me fishing since before thanks giving... and I've been insanely busy at work...last night I finally found the time ( with a little inspiration from this thread) to dust off the equipment and turn a few... I was almost out of needle fish so I turned and drilled a dozen last night... I'll seal 'em tonight..it begins...

eskimo 01-14-2014 12:53 PM

Been at it for the last week. I'm slower then a turtle but I'll get there.

Linesider82 01-15-2014 12:03 AM

Greek, those darter hybrids are amazing. Love the paint too, fish catching colors period. I'm drooling over that wonder bread one... How do the smaller sizes compare in swim action, any noticable difference? Great work.

I turned a dozen needles out of my good stock of wood, then I turned another dozen out of railings that I took from my office and all I can say is what a waste of time. Turned and sanded great, but the f in grains in this wood made my thru bit do a Uturn. Lesson learned. 3 of 12 survived, but they all might as well be trashed.

Yes...yes you do. :uhuh:

Excellent and innovative work Ted. Inspiring me to get back at it.

I love all the slope headed stuff. I'm still messing around with that stuff too. Just a few experiments/prototype kind of things I want to try.

I've hit the point where I don't really need to build much. I can't seem to part with my old stuff, I may just refinish some of the beaters and get them back in the rotation.

Lariv 01-19-2014 06:34 PM

Looks like someones been busy...very nice. I need to find some more time.

Muskyslayer96 02-03-2014 05:57 AM

Hey Fellas,

Finally got a chance to sling some paint.....took for ever for me to cut a new stencil for my mayhem pattern (old one got jacked).
So I painted up a couple...need a couple coats of clear and a little more detail work and they'll be teeth ready...also have about 25 or so in different stages but slowly getting there. I attached a pic of the Orange Mayhem finished proto that I let one of my buddies walk off with...regretting that move :o
Happy building,
Best,
MS

I am behind schedule, and falling behinder and behinder by the day..... Getting snow equipment ready tonight. Worried about having anything done by the "fest.

Don't worry Ross. I get less done every year. I have 5 lifetimes of plugs already so I don't feel the rush to finish much anymore. I probably turned 150 plugs at least and will most likely only finish a few by fest and 1/3 by fishing time and then I am done till next year. . Keep it fun that is what I shoot for.

Finally working on some stuff

Seems like I have had less time this year for building but am getting some stuff done or at least in the works. Hopefully done for Plug Fest. I have some needles done already, (more than in this pic) some small peanuts and stuff in the works as well as a bunch of sinking glider/jerkbait type plugs. All the rough blanks and un-primed stuff in the pic is cherry. The painted needles are mahogany, and the spook I painted like a snake it cedar. That was a fun one to paint. That one may not see the water but the rest will.

Eric Roach 02-06-2014 04:54 PM

They are all nice; the paint job on the topmost one is awesome.

sks 02-07-2014 06:41 AM

Hey guys, I finally did some plugs this year and like I said on another thread started doing some plastics. Plan on being there and I'll show you what I've done. Scott

ThrowingTimber 02-07-2014 10:50 AM

been messing around with aluminum tubing, ball bearings and rare earth magnets :) for an internal weight transfer system.

Linesider82 02-07-2014 11:54 AM

MS what the heck is the plug in the bottom pic on the far right... if it is a plug?
Nice work!

ProfessorM 02-08-2014 06:43 PM

Got my primer in mail yesterday so I primed some plugs today. Might have some stuff done for plugfest if I can just stay on track.

BigFish 02-08-2014 06:57 PM

Working on Atom-40's, small and large jointed pikies, some Polaris Poppers and more of my usual lineup!:uhuh:
