Ah, the frustration of just having to watch bass in a feeding frenzy when you can' get in the chase. I've been in similar situations.
In a related matter years back while dining on the deck of a restaurant in CT., people were dropping food scraps to feeding stripers. Shortly, a boat with fishermen pulled up and dropped their lines to a chorus of "Boos".
Similarly, when I return to friend's dock to clean fluke, bass pick off the discards. We've never tried to catch these fish as they've become "pets" and it wouldn't be very sporting to drop a hook baited with the skin from a fluke's belly under those circumstances.
