How do you drill for lipped plugs before you cut the square ends off?
I use a Vblock to drill, it's just a piece of 2x4 with a Vslot ripped in it. At one end it has a piece of sheetmetal screwed flat across it and the other has a vertical piece. Not too high tech but it works.
I also have another Vblock that I use to hold the blanks to pour lead in.
