Hey Gus, the cod fishing in Boston Harbor is fantastic right now. If you want to fish for them and not worry about bait. We have been using 12 -14 oz Norwegien jigs. Let them drop to the bottom do 1 crank up off the bottom and start jigging. This has been very successful and productive.
We were out yesterday and caught over 60 cod between 7 - 20 lbs. We had a friend out with us and we kept our limit, which by the way is 10 per person and they must be at least 21 inches long to keep. We stocked the freezer. Needless to say the body hurts today, but what a blast.
Couple of places to start and try are Utonia Ledge just off of Point Allerton. All the cod we caught yesterday were off of the tip of Nahant. Go till you find the 50 ft water mark and start jigging. Just drift and keep in that depth and you will hammer them!!!!
The tackle shops are burnt out and starting to wind down for the season, not too many people are fishing now so none of them are doing alot of business. Fore River is open at 7 AM - 5 every day, I don't think Ron is opening till later and not sure what time he closes but he has been sometimes gone by 3 so not sure. But alot of time these guys have to go out and get supplies and do banking and stuff and don't have people to work the shops so they have to close up when they go for supplies.
Good luck, hope you do well.
