Gas Tank Estimation

My friend recently purchased a 1999 21 Grady White, cuddy version. He's convinced I know more about boats than he does so he is waiting for me to take her out. We discussed all the requirements; stickers, gps, anchor, rope, safety gear, etc... in prep for a trip friday (weather permitting).

When I asked tonite if there was enough gas for a couple hour trip, he said he doesn't know. He states that there isn't a gas gauge on the boat, he's looked top to bottom.

If this is true, how does one estimate/figure out how much gas remains? Silly question I know but am curious iif anyone has a method or thinks my friend doesn't know where to look.

Any help/ideas are appreciated before this friday morning.
