Albeit i have a cheap digital, are there any tips you have, lighting/whatever, to get a more realistic pic of your plugs?
Thanks.

The best lighting that you can get is outside on a nice sunny day. If its sunny outside, just make sure the plug is framed the way you like it and make sure you don't cast shadows on your plug.
When I am indoors, I use white posterboard as a background and couple of 8 inch or 10 inch reflector lamps, from Homies, from the ends to try to eliminate any shadows. Turn the camera flash off and you're set to go. You don't have to use white, but try to use a light background.
My third choice is to use the camera flash indoors on white background, but get as far away from the plug as possible and zoom in. Getting far away will lessen the amount of flash glare that you'll get off the epoxied plug.

This may be counter intuitive, but I've had the best luck getting up close with a full flash.
Here are some examples. The left is a Piemma swimmer with a simply amazingly realistic scale finish. The other is a Rockhound needle, and as you can see the workmanship is top notch.
As an aside, if anyone wants any advice on their taxes, I know of a lot of deductions that probably won't get you in trouble.

Try some lights that you can sort of sheild with a sheet or some kind of diffuser, use white background, get the camera focused in close, You tend not to frame your plugs in the shot well, they look too far away, zoom in or get closer. Use alot of light but not direct light. Have you read the threads Afterhours had about this subject recently?
My brother is a photographer, but he knows as much about cabinetry as I do about photography unfortunately
good luck

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

Here's the light box I use. http://www.diyphotography.net/homest...ple-light-tent
If you use a shop light or other tungsten light it might come out a bit yellow, but you should be ablke to adjust that in the software that came with your camera. If your camera will let you, set the white balance to tungsten or incandescent.

Ya, nice shots HP and Larry.
I'm going to have to update, at some time, to a camera with a telephoto lense as i can't get closer than 3 ft.

Thanks for the comments on my plugs and photos. I didn't mean to hijack someone's thread. I just wanted to show how you can make a simple light box to get even lighting. I used a white plastic shower curtain from the dollar store to make the sides of my light box and printer paper taped to the inside to reflect the light around. You can change the base color with some colored construction paper.
I haven't tried those plugs I made yet, the water around my house is too hard -- but spring is on the way!

i just put them on the kitchen table and point the trac lights at them, make sure the table is clean too. no flash and a steady hand. there's a little flower button on my camera. i don't know what it means but the pictures come out nicer after i push it. i think it's for close ups.
if the sun is coming thru the window even better.
