The Outer Cape

Just wondering if this is going on all over, or just out here?

We are having the best beach fishing in years - bass up to low 30 pounds, too many to even mention in the 20 pound range - and on most all of the ocean beaches from Wellfleet through Provincetown.

On some days it's just a few folks here and there catching a few bass, and then on other days, like the last three in a row, it's massive beach blitzes chasing tinker mackeral, sand eels, and herring up to the beaches.

The boats are slamming them as well, in normal 30 ft depths but also in deeper water, like over 100 ft. The tuna bite has been crazy too! Wood End, Peaked Hill, and obviously spots on the bank.

This has got to be one of the best yet - elsewhere too?

The bird nest on the Pole Line Road is the harbinger of impending doom. It's a death march after they close that in about a week.

Why even try.........

Doom, gloom, whoe is me, the seals are bad, too much weed, oh the birds are going to shut the road down

People all today caught fish from Head of the Meadow to Ballston - no oversand vehicle access - maybe it was just getting wayyyy to easy to drive down to the water and get out and fish.

Well, that should piss off a few, whatever, I just get pissed at people always complaining about what they can't control - sorry, no harm intended!

A little help here. Is the outer cape fishable in a big NE blow? How long does it stay that way?

Yesterday, forecast showed 20+knot winds, gusts to 40knots for the next 3 days - with up to 8' swells.

But, the forecast also said pouring rain all night starting at 10pm and winds up to 20. And I was bone dry with barely a breath of wind last night.

Fished the last 3 hours of dusk hitting Truro and p-town beaches. Huge surf to say the least. Found some clean spots, but no love. The parking lot at race point had the biggest waves and the most weed, but lots of birds working offshore...

rich

most of the problems up there are man created. beach closures-man created, plovers listed as threatened on the esa-man created, lack of seal management/bounty- man created. just about all but the mung are man created problems. until we start to push back, i mean really push back, we're going to keep loosing libertys. this is something we should be able to "control"

"we must all stand together or surely we shall all hang seperately" BF

i appreciate your frustration, i can't believe that anybody is more frustrated than i (and my crew) are with the situation. we need to combine our frustrations and aim them in the right direction and at the right target(s)

How about one for the list - the 8pm to 8am closure of the pole road to the light and hatches harbor for no good reason as far as I know. I asked two different NPS folks and they couldn't give me an answer.

Pole Road closure must have been in thepast, as far as I know it has been open 24/7 this year, at least until another chick hatches down at the end.

Pole road closed at decision point - light or north beach. You can go out to north beach 24/7 but you can only go to the light and hatches between 8am and 8pm. On Weds 6/17, I actually had to call the ranger station at 9:05 am to see if it was ok to remove the barriers. They did allow me to remove the barriers and when they did come out to check hatches harbor they said they were sorry for not coming out at 8am to remove the barriers themselves. Still can't understand why they are restricting night access out there. By the way excellent fishing out there on Thurs 6/18 good size bass chasing tinker macks up on the beach. Fortunately it was well after 8am.

they're protecting us from ourselves again. thank god for the park service!! they're afraid someone might "drive" into the water at night. not much beach there and if there isn't enough room to turn around at high tide at night they close the access. don't you just feel the love? any excuse to take away access, any excuse at all.

I drove around out there for 30+ years and never saw anyone drive into the water. If that's the reason for the closure then that's stupid. The only place you could get in trouble, at least back then, was the other side of Peaked Hill where it would wash into the dunes on a Moon high.

No boat, back in the suds.
